Would it be possible to get anything back from this? Or is there no point trying?

Run it under cold water until redness reduces

It’s beyond repair. Properly fucked that is

Depends if the magnetic feild was broken or not. If not perhaps you could but it will cost you alot.

Unless the data are worth money then it's not worth paying the money.

put it in the oven to demag then have a strong magnet under a bucket of water and take it out and drop it in that then smash it with a hammer, in that state its probably possible to recover data

>, in that state its probably possible to recover data

The fuck are you talking about? You can get a catastrophic head crash from scratches that are microscopic just by not opening it up in a clean room, there's no way anybody on earth would get anything back from this.

LEA can.

ud be suprised

Unless you know someone from the NSA or CIA, you're fucked.

no fucking way

As long as the disk is not melted down it's theoretically possible. The only question is how hard it is. It's way beyond regular individuals as it is, but not beyond, say, companies that specialize in that sort of thing (they'd charge a lot for that disk though) or the police/security agencies.

The data is still there in its alternate quantum state. Easy enough to retrieve it but why bother when it's just kiddy porn and DICKPICS?

serious question, do you think its possible for someone to recover info of that ? like the police or do you think its fucked

Take it to one of those gook shops, they can fix anythiNg

Yes. It can be done. I work in a related field for a government. (Not the United Cucks of Murica) The ONLY way to ensure that data could not be retrieved it to COMPLETELY destroy the magnetic face. You either need to shred it to the point where it's a dust or melt it down.

BUT

It's certain that you would not get complete data. You might get some or nearly all of the sectors depending on how damaged it is. If you get enough, you *can* rebuild the data by using predictions and trial and error. (you can see how this would become exponentially more difficult depending how much data was missing).
So what it comes down to is a time/benefit analysis. Is it worth spending the hundreds of hours under an electron microscope manually/semi-manually reading the data or is it just not worth the time - especially when results are not guaranteed.

Sidenote, magnetic wiping is NOT effective. All it does it "scramble" the bits and even then it does a pretty shit job. The reason it's effective is due to software. It mangles just enough to stop a normal computer reading the data.

just throw it in some random trash, no one will give a fuck.

don't listen to this guy hes a moron. scrambled bits are erased bits. Information is lost in the process

MFW everyone thinks they're worthy of spying on

you are worthy spying on, fellow citizen. so we can plan the future, we must know what you do today and next week and next month. easy to comprehend, isnt it?

Do some reading. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Entropy

Also you can't "erase" data from a harddrive with a magnet short of smashing it into the platter. Waving a magnet will cause a bit to change, not erase.

Two papers supporting this:

commons.erau.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1131&context=jdfsl

Also, unless you have an actual magnetic eraser I'm not prepared to listen to your bullshit.

What's so important you need it destroyed? Are you Wikileaks?

>a bit to change, not erase
you really know nothing about computers, do you?

lel
also dubs bitch

I don't want it destroyed, I found it, I wanted to see what was on it

Good work posting nothing of value mate. Tell you what, if you think waving a magnet over a drive is going to prevent your data being read then you go right ahead and keep doing it. Don't come crying to Sup Forums when you're spending 50 years getting ass raped in an american prison.

Not gonna happen unless you either have money to burn or an electron microscope in your backyard (you don't).
