Do musicians usually peak in their mid 20s?

Do musicians usually peak in their mid 20s?

Leonard Cohen started at 32

Yes. There are exceptions of course but most critically acclaimed albums were made by people in their 20s.

Jeff Mangum (28; as far as we know)
Michael Gira (44 or 60)
Avey Tare (19)

It’s obviously a bit over the place.

>Avey Tare (19)
What? He was 21 when Spirit was released and 25/26 for Sung Tongs/Feels. He's a perfect example of what OP is talking about.

he wrote a lot of what became stgstv when he was in his teens.

So? He definitely wasn't at his peak with Spirit if that's what' you're implying.

Musicians peak when they're still new to music.

In other words: Usually musicians first albums are the best because they still "remember" in their unconscious what it was like to not be a musician, and just be a listener. They're not clouded by other industry bullshit, even if they exist outside of any industry.

Basically, the ability to JUST be a "listener" is eroded the longer you play an instrument/make music.

Plebs will never understand this

Jeff wrote a lot of the material at a younger age. In the Aeroplane was kind of the complication of his early 20s work

Sufjan Stevens was 35 when he released The Age of Adz

Why did classical musicians seem to only improve with time while pop artists get worse?

this is so false it hurts

t. pleb

it's not what i'm implying you fucking retard.
that's what i'm guessing the other user meant.

doesn't matter if i'm a pleb or not, that post wasn't true and you know it, stop spreading misinformation

They're all dead. If they're so talented why did they die?

Because classical musicians were catering to other musicians, pop artists cater to the uneducated masses.

Wut?

I feel like a lot of musicians get better with age, actually.

James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem is 47
Autechre are pretty old at this point, they formed in 1987 and are (arguably) still in their prime
Michael Gira still makes excellent music
Aphex Twin is 46, and personally Syro is my favorite album of his

>Aphex Twin is 46

Damn...

what?

Also didn’t James mercer start the shins in his 30s?

Paul Weller of The Jam ended the band when he was only 24.

Simply not true

If anything, you posted a few exceptions

A great exception to this is John Dwyer

yes, because he's never not been utter shite

robert pollard and the gang were in their mid 30s during this era

Idk have you listened to floating coffin? As far as like manic garage rock, you cant do any better imo

yeah well, your opinion is utter shit and simply wrong

Um okay, can u rec me any good garage rock then in ur infinite knowledge
Are u having a bad day lil buddy, wanna talk about it?

I can, but I wouldn't if you paid me
