Hey people, I don't know much about computers but. here's mine. Can somebody tell me why I barely get 60 fps on most games I play? I'm genuinely asking.
That's old and likely the problem. Every year new games become more hardware intensive, so after 7 years that cpu probably isn't up to the task. And if you're going to keep a processor in service that long, make sure you change the thermal paste (the grey paste sitting between your cpu and the heat sink on top of it) every two years or so to maintain proper cooling.

Depends on the price where you live, the "k" at the end means its an unlocked chip for overclocking, if you dont need that just get a 7700 and save some money, or get a modern gen i5.
Isaac Peterson
The standard fan (it's called a heat sink) that comes with most gpu's, especially new ones, will be just fine

>not running at least 60fps on pubg >just the way it is rough life buddy
Ryan Ross
okay that is really fucking wierd..your cpu is kind of oldish but it should run wow perfectly fine i think.
well if you dont know what you are doing cuz ur not into computers you shouldnt consider overclocking as an option.
Owen Cruz
Urm im not sure, maybe if they have lowered in price since i bought it but as i said it depends on location and time of the year, you can either wait for a sale or get something like a 6700 Pic related is what i bought and how much it cost( in US dollars
>Is it something that you can manual do without fucking everything up? Yes, it's very easy but if you haven't done it before just watch a youtube guide. "change thermal paste"
Is your pc a custom that you built yourself?
no prob Also, WoW is a very old game and has been optimized for most pc tiers. Most old rigs can run it just fine. It's the new games you need to worry about.
Overclocking means turning the clock speed of the component being overclocked up past the standard speed. Basically, your processor will "run faster" but will produce more heat and potentially wear out slightly faster. It's not necessary if you buy a new i5/i7 unless you want 144 fps on 2 full HD monitors or something similar.
Also if you buy another cpu and plan to install it yourself, you'll be applying the thermal paste yourself anyway. It's super simple dude, just check out a youtube tutorial.

Got you, I'll look forward for the paste.
It was prebuilt with a gtx 660 and I changed the card myself but, it is prebuilt.
Regarding overclocking, I don't think that'll be necessary. I just want to keep a steady fps.
You should be fine then. Do you know what motherboard you have by chance? And what games are you playing 3gb of vram isn't a whole lot these days if your trying to run on high/ ultra for super modern games. Do you happen to have a buddy with a better card you could borrow to see if that's your issue? I'm running a comparable system with a i7 4770 16 GB ram and a GeForce 980 And my processor hasn't shown its age at all yet and its only a generation newer than yours.
Ryan Thomas
No need to apologize my dude. I've got the day off here and therefore plenty of time to help an user out. If you get the processor, it's an easy install. If you changed out the gpu you'll be able to change the processor. Just remember, be GENTLE. There are many tiny pins between the motherboard and processor. You cannot bend a single one or it'll be fucked. BUT it's hard to bend them. I've changed out numerous cpu's with no issue, but I was careful. Watch some guides, it's easy to do :^)
Here's my motherboard, mostly WoW these days but can't go past mid to high graphics.
This is very kind of you, I will try to get one in the future months, being in college is being hella broke haha! Thanks to both of you for your time I'm grateful.
Fag you trap yourself by buying this fuckin 3gb 1060. One friend take it one month before I got the 1060 6gb and he put it in trash for a 1080 ti
Zachary Stewart
The 1070 GTX I sold last year will run 1080p nicely at max on pretty much everything at 144fps except for Fallout 4 and Dishonored 2 hmm
A 1060 might handle smaller resolutions better due to the Vram size.
1080 Ti I got no size problems 2k everything 300fps in everything but Fallout 4 is shit vsync on Feels laggy need mah 144hz, Dishonored Jew is similar with Vysync problems
Levi Harris
>fps are capped in the settings probably. >also why would you want more FPS >do you have a monitor with more than 60Hz? >FPS= frames per SECOND >Hz=Hertz=cylces per SECOND >your monitor cant show more pics per second than what frequency it runs on >therefore people who strive for the 9001 fps are retarded
Camden Hill
you are not accidentally using vsync right?
Ryan Green
>fps not capped >because when loads of details are on screen fps goes to 20-30 >60hz >ik >i didnt know >didnt know eitheir > i only want to avoid dropping to 20 fps
This guy again motherboard should be fine mostly it was an ok board when it came out so I would try the paste like the other guy said if you want but I really feel like that 3gb of VRAM might be your a Achilles heel here. Unfortunately this is literally the worst time ever to buy video cards.....you may want to try to wait it out a bit or try and grab a used 980 or 970 or 6gb 1060 on ebay if you can. I'm assuming your running things at 1080p but you could try lowering your rez to 720until the bitcoin fad completely dies.

Yeah nobody told me I could've payed 30$ extra to get a 6gb one, I will try that as well thanks
Camden Wright
maybe the power supply? i kinda have the same setup as you but i got a 1070 8gb, i put my gpu in a dell xps 8700, and upgraded the psu to 600w instead of 460w
