i'm sick of being a musician and not having my music heard. so I'm going project a bit. I'm a thousand times better and more talented than most of my fellow artists. yet there is almost no interest in my music, while they're raking in the attention.
why?
because the key to being a successful musician in 2017 is *not* being a good musician.
the key to being popular is being a social media hypelord.
quality isn't the key. what matters is shoving your music into everyone's faces until they submit to liking, sharing, and starting a never-ending cycle of attention-whoring because they feel like they can't cope unless they come back to your shit.
in general, if you: > don't have snapchat / instagram / aren't shilling videos of you and your boys smoking up bowls and acting like wreckheads while bumping your music on it 24/7 > aren't slapping an image of you flexing your bands onto soundcloud or photoshopping a hyperminimalist logo onto a picture of a frosty mountain range and using it as an album cover > aren't simultaneously a visual artist, graphic designer, video editor, events promoter, DJ, label head, label scout, vocalist and A&R guy on top of being a musician > aren't hypersocial > aren't making people feel like they're missing out by not listening to and sharing your music > aren't making people feel jealous then you are destined for failure.
Austin Turner
cont.
and this is why I've lost all hope for so-called 'music fans' in 2017. 99% of you are not interested in finding new, completely unheard, good music, based on THE MUSIC, ALONE.
for example, you're only interested in Lil Peep because he was already popular, wore wacky clothes, had tattoos on his face, and died recently. You are so hideously driven by image, posturing and the desire for oneupmanship on the part of the musician that, frankly, you can't accurately separate the wheat from the chaff anymore. You don't know how.
when was the last time you rifled through some completely unknown section of the web, *simply* because you want to find something completely random, but of good quality? Can't remember, can you? No, you only chose that last album because 10,000 other people have rated it above a 3.5 and you want to see what the fuss is about.
fuck you for being a sheep.
Nathan Diaz
>he wants his music heard 99% chance you music is garbo. if it was good you wouldn't want people to hear it because it could be tainted by plebs.
Tyler Bennett
Why don't you share your music here, let us say how shit it is
Jeremiah Gonzalez
Are you going to bitch or are you actually going to form a band and start playing venues? Literally nobody but permavirgins and hipsters care about soundcloud. You aren't a "musician" if you don't actually go out and perform in front of people which is the long honored tradition of all of mankind.
Liam Davis
dumb frogposter
Ian Powell
>you are not a musician if you don’t perform
Xavier Foster
dumb poster this. Also post music
Oliver Gray
>2017 this has literally been the case ever since live concerts started being broadcast on tv, arguably even earlier why do you think pop stars almost always happen to be conventionally attractive, mediocre musicians why do you think so many bands had to go around touring for years just to build up an audience you have to market your music SOMEHOW, you can't just sit on your ass and bitch that people aren't magically discovering your stuff and most consumers honestly don't give two shits about the technical quality of your music or w/e, so lots of artists market to whatever basic teen demographic is in this year and make bank either suck it up and market harder to whatever crowd it is you want to attract, or sell out. or fuck off, whatever.
Adrian Cooper
He won't even post his own music anywhere, I doubt he has the self confidence to go outside and market himself, the most he can do is frogpost about >Muh music not being liked!!!
Jason Hughes
Or just be fucking good. I've hosted 3 recitals and I'm 2nd chair at my uni's orchestra. All I had to do was practice and audition lmao.
Ayden Brown
>trombone player btw
Asher Nelson
Embrace the responsibility of having to do everything on your own, OP. The rewards are great for people who do that.
Christian Reed
post a link to your music nigga
Levi Carter
post it right now or this is the worst thread in the history of the board
Owen Scott
Exactly, nobody said that being a musician was going to be easy.
Nathan Cox
worst thread ever
William Cox
I would call you a retard, but then again, you're a frogposter
Benjamin Collins
Yeah, me too, buddy. The trick is to love your art so it doesn't matter if other people give a shit.
Ryan Lopez
xD
Joseph Jones
Lol no. Youre just a socilpath.
Caleb Myers
Post your music dude, I'll listen
Henry Hernandez
Protip: kill people, record their death rattles, and make music out of it. When the police eventually catch you, your music will be edgelord core music.
Landon Brown
Post your music faggot, otherwise we'll automatically asume it's hot garbage
Matthew Evans
Promoting yourself doesn't mean sacrificing artistic integrity. Put yourself out there and quit whinging about how success isn't magically falling into your lap.
Ayden Russell
It is interesting....for example I dunno how this guy got so popular. The song is not even that great, when you take into account all the other guys we barely know out there making better music
youtube.com/watch?v=AsfVZqZhtUQ
Caleb Howard
You're a frog poster not much of value will be lost if you never make music again
Brayden Sanders
Frogposters are literally the most tuned-in people on Earth today. But an eternity will pass before you accept the reasons why you lost.
Levi Morales
its a process idiot
I 've been playing in a band for 4 years, and we're JUST starting to get recognition from local bands, promotors, and developing a fan base.
Just because nobody doesn't listen to your music doesn't mean you arent creating.
If you make music to be heard then shut the fuck up and find a new hobby. Dumb idiot.
Thomas Myers
Clearly they aren't if nobody gives a shit about OP's shit music
Matthew Richardson
Are you better than this chick? I cant stop watching her and I dont know why. Shes talented, sure, but lots of people are. Maybe you just dont have that fucking unnamed thing that makes people not stop watching you.
Liam Roberts
You still lost.
Samuel Sullivan
*you're ;)
Noah Hall
It has a name. It means hot girl.
Tyler Powell
nah, lots of hot girl musicians dont have "it". Probably OP
Jace Campbell
I don't know why you would watch that generic acoustic guitar girl over any other one.
Kayden Lee
exactly. I dont know either. but i am watching.
Cooper Taylor
>nobody but permavirgins and hipsters care about soundcloud retarded or trolling?
Lucas Morris
>when was the last time you rifled through some completely unknown section of the web, because you want to find something completely random, but of good quality? Literally yesterday. If some p4k review sang your praises and you started getting recognition because of it, you probably wouldn't give a shit about skilled talent not being heard. is spot on. Becoming recognized requires different types of skill as well as luck. It is a problem for new skilled artist to be heard, but fuck you for getting pissed that people arent doing the job of finding and promoting your music for you.
Colton Robinson
fuck off faggot. be grateful for every fan you get.
