To be fair, Nashville is all about 'good' country music and the songwriters. Most of the gigs around town are by outsiders, songwriters, rock bands, etc. The bubblegum Nashville country is mostly an export and a draw for tourists.

You've got to check the small venues, the dive bars, etc, if you want to see the 'good' country you're talking about. Luckily, 90% of the city venues consist of things like this. The big commercial country acts play stadiums and larger gigs.
