MY 100 ESSENTIAL METAL ALBUMS CHART

Looking for feedback on my chart. What albums belong on my list that aren't on it? What albums should I replace them with? All input is appreciated.

I mean it's not bad, but there are like a billion charts like this. Kinda useless desu.

Yeah, but I have issues with most of the ones I've seen or too heavily biased towards certain subgenres. I wanted to make a well rounded one that captures all the subgenres.

There's like 2 charts exactly like this on the Sup Forums wiki desu. Or at least I have two that are exactly like this.

>no tool
fucking retarded chart, kill yourself

Lateralus is on there.

But it shouldn't be.

>no sludge other than atmospheric variations
>no Earth or Sunn o)))
> over representation of Death and Black Metal, also grindcore
Yeah it needs some changes

Name which albums should be tossed and for what

>Kyuss, Boris, Mastodon
>no sludge metal

>no Earth or Sunn o)))
Not essential metal bands.
>over representation of Death and Black Metal
Death and black make up the majority of metal bands.
>also grindcore
There's only 2 grind records on that entire chart mate.

>Not essential metal bands.

They're essential figures in drone doom, even if you don't like them. I'd put one of them in place of And Justice for All, considering OP's already got the two more important Metallica albums on there

>They're essential figures in drone doom
Sure but drone doom is not a very big or "essential" genre of metal. I don't have a problem with either band. I just think they don't fit on an essentials chart. There's no slam there, there's no industrial metal there There is no death/doom there, etc. It feels like you are just making an exeption to drone bands because you like them

It's needs.
>Ministry - Psalm 69
>Angel Witch - Angel Witch
>Annihilator - Alice in Hell

Napalm Death, Carcass, Terrorizer, Repulsion

That's four grind albums desu

Boris At Last covers drone/doom

Shit, you're right. I missed Carcass and Napalm.

Prowler in the Yard or Terrifyer should be on there. Or maybe Insect Warfare. I'd remove And Justice for All or one of the four Death albums.

Bands with multiple albums

Death, Maiden - 4
Priest, Sabbath, Metallica - 3
Darkthtrone, Bathory, Mercyful Fate, Motorhead, Celtic Frost, Burzum, Sepultura - 2

Let me know if I missed any

>It feels like you are just making an exeption to drone bands because you like them

I'm not huge into drone actually, I just think they're noteworthy and have some traction outside metal communities. And you can't really separate personal taste from judgments of what's "essential", it's not like anyone has some objective parameter for "importance" in metal.

It just makes more sense to me for charts to cover a variety of subgenres and styles rather than have 5 different albums from the same band. It's like, we get it, Maiden is important. And yeah I forgot about Streetcleaner, would put that in too.

Nu-metal isn't metal? No Deftones or Korn, the universally liked nu-metal bands?

>no manowar

kill yourself with steel

>And you can't really separate personal taste from judgments of what's "essential"

I realize I'm contradicting what I said in my original post, w/e

Faith No More and Tool is on there.

>I just think they're noteworthy
They are. Just not in this context

>have some traction outside metal communities
They probably have more tracktion outside of metal communities to be honest.

>rather than have 5 different albums from the same band
This I agree with. There's no need for more than 2 or maybe 3 albums max for one band. It's definitely not a perfect chart

>Streetcleaner, would put that in too
Definitely an essential album. Agreed

Does Mental Funeral not count as death/doom?

>Death
Only needs Leprosy and Symbolic
>Iron Maiden
Just put Peice of Mind
>Priest
Needs Painkiller and Screaming
>Sabbath
Fair enough. The first three need to be there
>Metallica
Only needs Master, or Ride the Lightning
>Darkthtrone
I can see putting up two by them, but probably only needs Transilvanian Hunger
>Bathory
Needs Under the Sign and Hammerheart. The peaks of their two periods
>Mercyful Fate
Mellisa or DBTO. It's up to taste
>Motorhead
Fair enough
>Celtic Frost
Only needs To Mega Therion
>Burzum
Only needs one of the first four. Which one is up to taste (though Filosofem is probably the most well-known)
>Sepultura
Only needs one. Schizophrenia or Beneath the Remains

True, but I see it as more OSDM. I meant in the style of Paradise Lost/Katatonia/My Dying Bride, etc.

Scream Bloody Gore is an important album even if it isn't their best.

Candlemass has two albums too.

And is Faith No More, Tool, Isis, and Neurosis even metal?

There is an arguement to be made for SBG.

I haven't counted every album. I just went by this >Candlemass
I love them too much to be unbiased with them. Personally I think both are essential.

>And is Faith No More, Tool, Isis, and Neurosis even metal?
It's debatable. They're shit any how.

No Running WIld. No Gamma Ray. No Manowar.

All three are essential. Why is power metal often overlooked in favor of extreme subgenres?
