K-pop is perfectly designed to have a western market. It's accessible to western listeners and has enough Asian "mystique" to stick out in a marketing sense.

The South Korean gov spent many many millions on a plan to massify Kpop worldwide.
Also as others said, shallow americanized pop so sound-wise it's not weird for westerners. I'm still surprised it somehow broke the language barrier though, that's a hard one.
