Is greed a part of human nature?

Yes. Greed is good.

I honestly never understood what greed is. Either you will take legal steps to achieve goals, or you won't. There's no line you can draw, and I don't know why you would want to draw a line.

The only problem is what the laws should be.

>le wealth is a zero sum game may may
Why does this idea still drive 99% of common economic thought?

Yes, give me your shekels goy-kun...

Yes. You are starting this thread for your own gratification. If people were honest with themselves it would become obvious that nearly all decisions made are for this end.

When you ignore this fact you lose objectivity and stop limiting your influence over others for "their own good," doing more damage than these "greedy" people you seem overly concerned about.

In order to survive, you must be very aggressive in getting and keeping items that keep you alive. Yes, greed is truly human nature.

It isn't a zero sum. However, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone's piece of the pie gets bigger and that everyone wins. Contrary to popular opinion, large segments of the population are still destitute or in need, despite the fact that the total wealth being created is growing.

> it would become obvious that nearly all decisions made are for this end
I would say literally all decisions. Religion / morality is a way of introducing an alternate currency and convincing people to sometimes value it over physical currency.

In the end it's all currency. How could you ever choose what to do unless it optimised some function? That's what makes it a choice, not just a random event.

>economics is about the allocation of scarce resources
>it's not zero sum though

Greed is good in the same way that megalomania is good - it will help spread your
genes like wildfire should you just so 'happen' to achieve the power/wealth you seek, especially with how women are naturally drawn
to people of power, be it through greed themselves, or instinctively.

Greed is apart of human nature, to genuinely belive you can somehow destroy it, or remove it from society will do nothing but cause conflict, and bloodshed.

For example we can all agree large private central banks, international predatory banks ect are greedy, but ontop of that they are evil bu financing war ect. so yes the world would be great without them.

But to think institutionalized Socialism is the answer is like believing in unicorns, your simply concentrating the greed into the hands of government and ontop of that they are still puppets of banks.

Greed is natural, Socialism is never the answer

This

Nice dubs though by the way

If we didnt have it howd we get this far?

"want" is part of human nature, self restriction is not.

Greed is a common trait in Human nature but it is a means to an end for Humanity.

Man craves power and competition, greed is just the acquisition of material to show where you place in society.

So long as Humans compete, there will be greed.

Greed is taking or wanting more than you need or deserve. I don't think greed in particular is part of human nature, jealousy is. So people justify their greed by "others having even more".

>Tech advances, making all resources more valuable
>Zero Sum

Pretty communist way of thinking

Disgusting

>Greed is taking or wanting more than you need or deserve
What the heck? Nobody deserves anything. Do babies deserve to die?

The world is a clusterfuck of tragedy and mental illness. You can't do anything without having unknowing effects on others. If you stay within the law, mind your own business, and achieve your goals, I don't think anyone can criticise you.

Capitalism is merely the engine that runs our society.

It is efficient, as it is fueled by our endless wants. The neanderthals didn't exactly seem to
have this constant want to see more, do more, etc - it ultimately ended with them dying out
only for us to take their place.

Were greed not a thing common within the general human population, then capitalism
would have ended up just like the attempts to achieve the failed ideals of either socialism, or communism

Yes
/thread

yes. And fuck you for trying to breed it out of us, because Greed is an important survival instinct for bouth our in-group and the species as a whole

the sum of material or resources on this planet doesn't change, however, products can be made through labor and sold for a higher price than the labor + the price of the resources. Has wealth been created? Yes, because a product that people desire enough to pay more for than it cost to produce it.

Also:
>economics is about the allocation of scarce resources
that's not the textbook definition.

It's rational self-interest, not "greed". Otherwise, amen to that.

Economics is about the operations of the market as a whole, be it by government control/command, or through no control (a-la total capitalism)

Being greedy to me is doing something malicious for the sake of whatever you're being greedy over. Every body can make a decision to lie or steal or be an asshole and to some people it comes easier Than others it's not human nature because at some point we had to work together and share our recourses and strength to survive

To an extent, however society has enshrined it and it has become like a cancer of human nature. There are studies which have found that satisfaction/happiness levels off after earning $100k or so per year.

>Either you will take legal steps to achieve goals, or you won't.
If your goal is to consume everything that would be considered greed.

>making all resources more valuable
Except for worker labor
