Tool? Nine Inch Nails? Korn?
Who was the Death Grips of the 90s
It's still Death Grips you fucking plebeian
Atari Teenage Riot
In 10 years Nu/mu/ is going to spam every DG thread with slander and shit spewing because old/mu/ liked it
They will be the new TooL
So fucking wrong.
No, Travis. No.
Nirvana.
>singing is all with anger
>lyrics is about being molested and living in the future, suicide themes, disconfort, porn, etc.
>listeners are mostly white teenager outcast people
>really extreme point of views and misterious aura
>They will be the new TooL
Whoa...headrush
Prodigy
Insane Clown Posse
Mr. Bungle
Definitely this. These kinds of comparisons are pointless and stupid though, sage
* "The" Death Grips
early Swans probably
>both rejected huge commercial deal
>known for aggressive live shows
>mysterious persona
>white fans
this is maybe a valid comparison for early DG but they're too much of a cultural phenomenon at this point for it to still work
Korn or Slipknot. Both bands were highly lauded for what sounded like a different (from the surface at least, and at their time) take on the kind of rock/metal that existed before them. Not only that, but they also became quite popular among the alternative, not very social types due to their abrasive sounds, too. But, like Death Grips, most of their gimmicks don't go beyond the surface, and they all ultimately lack creativity particularly from a structural perspective when it comes to writing interesting music. As a result, all three come off as more image than music.
Kurt Cobain cited Raping a Slave on the top 50 albums of all time and Thurston Moore was a member at one point.
Both very influential figures in 90s alternative
When attempting to compare two disparate time periods, it's best to remember that popular culture tends to travel in 30 year cycles, not 20. You'd be better off asking who were the Death Grips of the 1980's. That seems a far more reasonable question.
it's already like that
there's an early interview where zach compares them to nirvana, it was made before they really gained traction and wasn't published until after they did
i used to think it was public enemy, just sound wise
this
Yeah PE's production plus something like early Melvins is probably pretty close
Wesley Willis, obviously
Kurt Cobain and Thurston Moore were both way into underground bands. Death Grips is leagues more popular than Swans ever were.
