What does Sup Forums think about the new Björk?
Björk-Utopia
it won't be remembered by January
I like it.
There are great moments but there's a lot of pointless bullshit on it.
It's also one of the worst album covers of the year
Not bad, but not as amazing as I hoped it would be. Would have been in my top 5 of the year if there was someone in the studio with some balls to make her cut shit down.
the cover is so atrocious, it makes me feel like its creator cannot have good taste. haven't listened to it or the last one because everything i read made me think she's full of bullshit now. eventually will listen. not now, not while people are telling me i should.
literally any of the other pictures she took in that shoot would have made a better album cover

I didn't even notice that strap on
great cover
It sounds like Christ's piss mixed in dogshit. I don't really like it per say but I still keep coming back to it. A few tracks are gorgeous like Blissing Me and Tabula Rasa but the words are awful and Arca doesn't work very well with it.
I think everything wrong with Bjork right now ties back to the end of Medulla after she gave birth and when they made the music video for Triumph of a Heart. Her entire artistic process devolved into a midlife crisis of partying, cheap tricks, and dependence on everyone else to do the work for her.
>per say
per se
her shittiest album since volta
Thank you.

Why does every song in the album sound the same?
link?
>also inb4 check the archive cause i already have and the link's not fucking working
It's incredible
shit
Dude how many of these threads are we gonna have? We don't need to have everyone's opinion on the new Björk 3 times a day
bork
It's basically medulla v2
Its really good
It's great, not her best but definitely up there with her most ambitious. Some extremely emotional moments and for.me it was captivating all the way through although I did think the length was kind of unnecessary. Didn't really have a problem with the lyrics myself either
Its a good album, but this is true
I agree except for the lyrics. If I didn't speak English it would be easy to ignore because they sound great with the music.
Great record. Parts of it reminds me of Vladislav Delay which is a big compliment. I recommed you guys to listen to it more than once because it's a very slow burner. There's a lot going on musically that you will miss upon first listening.
I wish the production was better though because there's some really unique stuff going on here musically. I'd give it a 8 out of 10.
I guess this album is a lot like Medulla in a way that it's extremely alienating compared to her previous works. You either gonna love it or hate it but there's no middle ground. Yet Björk went full pop with Volta three years later so this could be the case again in the future.
it's average and will be forgotten about in a few weeks, like said
This album has literally ZERO timbric variety and dynamic contrast. It's sleeping music. Most of the time you have a hard time telling when one song has ended and another one has started. I found myself thinking "boy this song's pretty long" only to realise I was halfway through the next song. There's nothing memorable, nothing that sticks out, nothing to make you want to go back to it, or at least to a specific song. Vulnicura often had the same defects, but even then it wasn't as plain and homogenous as this one. Even Biophillia, which was her first "samey" album managed to bring enough interesting sounds and tempos to allow the songs to differ from one another.
Björk for the love of whatever the fuck you currently believe in, make this your final album. Don't let us see you turn into a grotesque caricature of yourself (though some might argue this has already happened; see: cover art)
I don't really like the lyrics
fucking beautiful as long as you change the cover art
People who copypaste their exact same comment into multiple threads at the same time should be permabanned.
Waifufags and people who mistake "no u"s with proper counterarguments should be raped in the ass
>new album by commonly discussed artist comes out
>durr why do you guys keep talking about this???

I can't believe plebs actually think this is better than Vulnicura.
>admits it's worth replying to it
>does so
>gets triggered by it
>"lol its half assed"
I can't believe plebs think Vulnicura was better than Biophilia

It was though. The style in Biophilia is more consistent, but that's pretty much it.
More consistent, varied, colourful and she actually sang in that album. Not to mention the lyrics were at least somewhat interesting
fantastic
6.5/10
Too much going on: needed a clearer vision. Kinda reminded me of Trout Mask Replica in that sense, but no where near as impressive on a technical level of course.
Cont.:
TMR was able to sound really busy but still retain a clear vision, along with masterful technicalities.
Good but not great. The mixes sounded muddy and Arca's beats didn't always compliment Bjork's vocal delivery and her arrangements. And not that I don't like Arca because he made some great contributions on Vulnicura, but now that he's played a stronger role on this album than the last one it seems like that they don't have the best compatability. Still had some great and beautiful moments though
Don't tarnish Medulla like that - the use of vocals in Medulla are varied and distinct, you can't mistake any song for any other.
The use of woodwinds on Utopia feel shoehorned in - there's little dynamic range and they sound god awful in the title track and Paradisia
Agree with the lack of dynamic contrast, but it's too infuriating to sleep to - the amount of shit that happens in a song is confusing, from the obnoxious beats and bleep bloops to the waves of Bjork's long annunciations - it's very difficult to relax to
Vespertine > Vulnicura > Medulla > Selmasongs >> Homogenic > Biophilia > Volta > Debut >> Utopia
Any questions?
Cluttered and busy. Not all that great musically.
i just can't get into bjork
didn't like it a whole lot at first, thought it was average. it's really underwhelming in some parts and it drags on, it's just too long. i think it'll grow on me though
What an embarassing opinion.
It's kind of stupid but I'm sort of nervous to listen to it because I dislike the cover artwork. I don't know why that has to ruin it for me, because it's just as bad as the artwork for Homogenic and that was an awesome album, but something about it just has this vibe of "Bjork is old and has totally lost the plot now"
Also it's weird but I can't shake the feeling that she's ashamed of her face, like she knows she's getting older and the crows feet are showing up and she's constantly hiding behind masks now. Its sort of sad because I still think she's beatiful when she just wears her natural face without the makeup and the artsy disguises, but she doesn't do it anymore. And she wraps it in this confident veil of art and performance but it just gives me an off putting vibe that she's hiding herself or something.
Dude Vespertine is legit and I wasn't big on Volta but why the fuck is Debut second to last
post the other ones, I'm about to get this album
Volta is okay but is salvaged by Dull Flame of Desire and Vertebrae by Vertebrae which are two of Bjork's best songs; Debut doesn't have Play Dead on the official tracklist, and so doesn't really have any amazing tracks - still good though. If Play Dead does count as a Debut song, it'll be above Volta
oh FUCK I forgot post - put it above Biophilia
>it was boring
I can not believe there's a power gap before Homogenic. That is just grim
It's good, but there's nothing that resonates with me on the same level that the top 4 do
And Selmasongs is only that high given the context of the movie
Why do all her songs sound like Hide and Seek but shitty, improvised, and tryhard?
I seriously need an answer to this: why the hell would anyone listen to this? As in, what makes you go "oh, I really want to listen to that one bjork song right now" for any song other than It's Oh So Quiet? I seriously can't think of a reason that doesn't involve drugs or mental illness.
Bjork music is for female and soy consuming numale.
Arca is a fag who ruined the album
Well I do love consuming females if you know what I mean
I liked the animal sounds, but after fucking around for a few minutes in one of Arca's VSTs I got the bird sounds by accident
Curious of VST name?
vagina head
LOOK AT ME!!! I'VE GOT A VAGINA!!! APPRECIATE ME!!!!!: the Artist
>Tabula Rasa
>the lyrics are literally 'fuck men'
Is she even trying anymore?
Bjork obsessing over one aspect Arca sound design. I also felt that much of those sounds felt cluttered with not much space to breathe, even the gate starts to get too lush.
