I have a mate on £20k and he's happy as Larry, still goes out regularly too, just lives in a cheap flatshare and saves nothing. I'm on £30k and miserable because I'm in a cheap flatshare and know that I'm still a long long way away from being able to afford the mortgage even on a shit one-bed flat. Just depends on what your priorities are.
