RIP Canadian Piggos Edition

The point of these threads is to encourage people to look for new and interesting music. We do this by listening to and ideally discussing albums we've never heard before. Many of us already listen to new music daily, these people are in it to venture "out of their comfort zone" by listening to albums they otherwise wouldn't have, or just to have a good time.

Death and ELP reviews coming up. Bill Nelson later on the day too. Also still need to fill up the last two rows.

It's a wild ride.

rateyourmusic.com/release/album/fire-orchestra/enter/
I mean, it's full-on jazz but it fits all other adjectives you said. I also love Bedlam, it was my first TMV album.

i just catfished so many guys
gonna write some reviews for some more of that chart soon

Hi /daily/
This is my first time posting in this general. I unfortunately don't have time to participate rn because of exams and shit, but I've been lurking the past few threads and I just wanted to say you guys seem really neat. I hope I can join the fun soon.

>The Shadows of Knight - Gloria
you know its gonna be good when the name sounds like some organization from a fanfiction.
rock n roll pop rock with south park voices.
cant wait for their second album, reddit.

>The Litter - Distortions
I forget it happened but I liked two of the songs off it

>The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers
I totally underestimated The Byrds. I thought it'd be shitty yee haw psych. This is perhaps one of the best sounding albums of 60s psychedelia in terms of raw recording quality. Not only is everything clear (aside from the studio effects that sound like they're from much later than 68), but the instruments hug you with their sound. The instrument tones are so nice. So many wonderfully layered sounds. This is what the stones wanted their shitty beatles rip-off album to sound like. That last track has some nice moog-y goodness.

>Jean-Claude Vannier - Jean-Claude Vannier – L'Enfant Assassin Des Mouches
>first Torts rec
"David Axelrod + Eldorado + musique concrete that occasionally veers into full-blown noise + the heavy porn grooves of mid-70s French library music + ambition + more ambition + Balkan folk-tinged avant-prog + what I can only assume was a hell of a lot of time, money, resources, and hash = this thing." -thrasher2809
What a strange album. Reading up on this, it's almost like the Van Dyke Parks of the 70s. Insanely interesting album. Very french. Some of the most beautiful symphonic rock I've heard interspliced with some musique concrete sections. Guide: If it has a word starting with "Ro" in the title it's one of the most beautiful things ever. If it's anything else it's kind of offputting musique concrete stuff. If this didn't have the ocassional Dive Into The Avant Garde it'd be a much better album, and it kind of shafts itself with it at times, like how some tracks will be great psych-prog until some noise section comes. A hard album to just listen to outside of a complete listenthrough.

nekojishi is destroying me

what do you mean

look it up
hot cats

>Emmanuelle Parrenin - Maison Rose
This album perfectly adds a lot of elements to stand out as a great "Avant-Folk" work, from drone segments to even (proto?)trip hop, its ethereal atmosphere is truly engaging.
8+

>Cornelius - Fantasma
I want to thank this guy for the music on this album, I just love pop albums that show variety like this, and this one also have that childlike playfulness to it, mainly given by its use of plunderphonics, which makes it so entertaining and charming.
8.5

>100 Flowers - 100 Flowers
I'm a fan of the most melodic side of post-punk, but this album has a lot of forgettable tracks that could've been left out.
6-

>Joe Henderson - The Elements
I don't know much about Joe Henderson but I liked the funky vibes I got from him. Alice's contribution is evindent in this album with the harp boosting the spiritual feel of the record, the percussion is great too, especially when the tabla comes in.
7.5

>Julian Kytasty - Black Sea Winds: The Kobzari of Ukraine
At times it felt like an ukranian version of Robbie Basho (at least in Zarthus), the nice string playing is there and also a captivating voice, but this album also adds a warmer atmosphere. The main problem I found is it got monotonous after some tracks.

well, that's as far as letov will go on those tights. missed yvec on last thread, I hope to catch him soon

So uh, I have kinda followed these threads and they look neat, I've been on a roll of discovering lots of new stuff lately, so I guess I'll join you people. The question is: how do I start with the schedules?

listen to the daily chart and write what you think of each album first, then you can be cool like everyone else and post your listening charts

You can either do a monthly schedule chart and join the several of us that revived the tradition or do the /daily/ essentials chart to get a hold of the collective taste of /daily/.

Either way, welcome!

>how do I start with the schedules?
with Career Suicide by A Wilhelm Scream imo
then stop because these threads are actually lame af

he's trolling, dont listen to anything on the daily chart ever in your life

Use this link:
imgur.com/e08Ryo2
Rate the top two rows then go through the rest like I am!

Daily more like GAYly

I've never trolled a day in my life

Thanks, we'll see how it goes. I have found so much music lately that I have like 5 browsers open at all times that are just filled with new albums and artists. I'll start going through the chart tomorrow. I also like short albums so yesterday I started a Spotify playlist for that, every album/EP that is 10-40 minutes and is found on Spotify is eligible to be added. Here's a link to it: open.spotify.com/user/eesainio/playlist/4S1UwF29cr3NIrylpcC3pl

I also have an instagram account where I post every new album I listen to, I just hit 800 today, go follow if you like: instagram.com/eero365levya/?hl=en

oh! that instagram page is actually a p interesting idea

for your first recc, consider listening to Suicide by (You)

Hey you follow me on Last.FM, where did you find my profile?

I borrowed Suicide from the library in June I think, a re-listen wouldn't hurt tho. I have a lot of time tomorrow so I'll dive into it.

What's your username?

Kids & Explosions - Shit Computer
This felt like going through a Youtube poop playlist made by some 14 year old in 2012. For every good thing, there is at least two others that don't match or are just bad.
4/10
>Portishead - Third
A fair amount of good stuff but an equal amount of bad.
5/10
>Fuck Buttons - Tarot Sport
Surprisingly good. The repetitive nature of it works very well and it creates these wonderful electronic landscapes to get lost in. Great stuff.
7/10

last.fm/pt/user/Adrianovaz2007

I can accept the K&E, but that Portishead review is unacceptable.

>had good stuff but also bad stuff

Ah alright. I think I just found it a while back while browsing Sup Forums. How long have you been here?

On /daily/ three years in and out, on Sup Forums about seven years.

Damn, I only started visiting last year. How bad has Sup Forums disclined since 2010?

Portishead does not work for me. I can't say anything smart about it.

explain why then you chum can

I mean, don't you like krautrock and/or moody atmospheric rock? Third is the fusion of both, done very fucking well.

Oh boy, it was a nosedive. It started with the shitfest that the whole board went through after moot brought Deadmau5 for a Q&A in 2013 I think. Then sharethreads and listenalongs died and with it a lot of new music discussion too. I basically just post on /daily/ nowadays.

I agree this is a piece of shit review, let me retry that
Portishead is one of those bands that I just don't get. I don't hate anything about them but there is nothing that I can grab onto. I want to enjoy the vocals but they sound so bland to me. I want to enjoy the instrumentation but it just sounds plain to me. Every single thing I try to grip onto I just cannot grasp. Third just continues these problems for me and every time I find something that I could sink my fingers into it just fades away.

thank you Dex, you may continue

...

I'm still flabergasted but at least you gave Tarot Sport a 7. I should probably switch K&E for something else, I'm the only one around that thinks it's glitchy plunderphonics done right and a lot better than Girl Talk which does souns like ytpoop.

There may be the problem that I was on a post-SILY high. K&E had some great moments I'll defiantly listen to it again. I agree with you on Girl Talk, it is literal YouTube poops.

last night was the first night in so long i've gone to sleep before 11 and of course the fucking fire alarm in my building went off at 1 am

do you even know how confusing it is to wake up to your roommate handing you a pair of sweatpants telling you to get the hell out of the building

anyway i'm in class now and i'm not feeling so imma drop some chartless reviews

Ryoma Maeda - Fantastic Suicide (2012)
>electronic

The album title and the cover art here turned me off of this from the start, and the music itself isn't really doing by original opinion any favors. It's bright, chaotic, sugar-coated electropop, infectious but not entirely in a good way. It's catchy, with some admittedly decent songwriting, it's just that the sound itself is so over-the-top and grating I can't even enjoy the most enjoyable songs.

0.5+

Ancient Astronaut - Ancient Astronaut (2014)
>IDM

I always get really excited when I see "industrial techno" listed as a genre for an album on RYM, and I always get let down. I don't wanna knock the actual industrial techno here, it's actually done quite well, mixing with IDM remiscent of harsh, ICBYD-era Aphex Twin incredibly competently. It's the ambient that really kills this, making for a track that takes up nearly half the album's runtime that's really not good at all. The other five tracks (well, three tracks, really) are pretty good, "B3" just kills any good will I could feasibly have towards this album.

2.0+

hello friend! good luck with exams, hope you can join us when you're done.

i'd definitely recommend to just start with a chart full of albums you wanna listen to, and tackle it at your own pace. a lot of us are doing the monthly schedules, but that's more of a """nostalgia""" thing, most people here generally just do charts.

okay tell me u at least liked the rip

also yeah, i didn't expect to like Tarot Sport as much as I do, great album.

Was the building on fire at least?

The rip was good, so was small.

>i'd definitely recommend to just start with a chart full of albums you wanna listen to, and tackle it at your own pace.
That sounds great too, I think it would really help me organizing stuff. Right now I have 4 and a half tabs, a spotify search bar, 2 Spotify playlists, a phone memo and a head full of music, I think I have enough stuff to fill 2 charts

well the alarm actually went off first around 8 pm, that time someone just burned smores and the whole building smoked up. the time when i was asleep i don't know what happened at all, no smoke or anything.

absolutely great choices

yeah, they're really helpful. generally i do a bunch of charts like that back to back, while always keeping a freeform chart, where i just talk about whatever random albums I've been listening to.

The Rip is on my top 3, along with We Carry On and Machine Gun.

oooops ignore my non-festive name on my last couple posts, forgot to change my name on my laptop.

too l8 m8 already judging you

wow and I was just about to call mods on you

fuck off faggot.

I guess I'll start the chart making now, hold my beer

fellas I've been unironically listening to Thursday all day, how do I stop

i revise my statement to this

memes aside i like listening to albums without the idea of a mandated schedule looming over me, i listen to new albums daily without obligation already
I know you guys talked about it in the plug a while back but I think I prefer releasing reviews in batches

Damn cool, you Finnish? Neighbors ITT

The Rip was the first one I liked off of Third, followed by Machine Gun. Nowadays it's one of my four 5/5s and would have been on my daily chart if you wouldn't have it AnBro

Dude if you're gonna listen to Thursday at least listen to their good album; Waiting

Also tripfagging is nice since everyone here is a regular visitor, makes it a LOT easier

lads
any more songs like lucy in the sky with diamonds?

this is pretty great so far. there is a lot of confidence going into every texture. everyone saying this is the end boss of music need to get int Unami or Hecker or something. the high pitched tones also aren't bothering me that much for whatever reason.

I finished it now and clicked the download button but it has been rendering for like 5 minutes, what do?

screenshot

the server might be down right now, just try again later

I did took one but it's bad quality

I'm going to bed soon anyways so I'll just try at the morning

THEN YR OUT OF LUCK KIDDO

oh noes

post recent listens

I always have a few albums that aren't in the database so I just screenshot now, just zoom in as much as you can and snaperoo

>memes aside i like listening to albums without the idea of a mandated schedule looming over me, i listen to new albums daily without obligation already
same for me, actually the first time I came to daily was when everybody was doing calendars and I dropped out after like two days

i smell a 9 somewhere in schoenberg's discography, anyone have any tips

You know you can put in image URLs and add titles, right

fuck you

how haven't you rated ascension yet

It iz done! I'll start gong through it tomorrow, well see if I will get it done during this month or will it go to the next year. The quality isn't exactly the best but it's ok enough if you don't zoom to it. Have anyone of you heard any albums off it? If so, which ones? Opinions on these albums? I will also do a part 2 tomorrow, this isn't everything yet

i might end up doing NBBMD...

jerry paper, jorge ben, and thee oh sees are all pretty great.

I just heard that oh sees album for the first time this past week, it immediately became one of my favorites of theirs. I basically second what rod said + naked city is great

it looks nice, idk what's that tacocat album but i like its cover so I'll check it out.
personally from that chart tiger trap, nico, and hop along, queen ansleis are the ones I like the most

just the things from my tourney, lol

>what's that pic?
its from an old life magazine i read in class. took a bunch of screenshots and cropped them for album cover potential.

books.google.com/books?id=T1AEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false
books.google.com/books?id=MVAEAAAAMBAJ&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_ge_summary_r&cad=0#v=onepage&q&f=false

how is crappin' you negative? i adore one sock missing.

sign o the times, tiger trap, unsilent death, disciplina kicme, forca bruta, giles corey, and the gosdin brothers are great.

didn't care much for the alex cameron album but duet with angel olsen on it is one of my songs of the year.

then you'll enjoy this one too
it's pretty similar to one sock missing (and even slightly better imo)

yeah but it downloads with white spots sometimes for whatever reason like pic related

Damn, zero of these interest me. Hope you enjoy regardless
Ivan Moravec nocturnes are better than Rubenstein btw

i wish there were good magazines still

i've never had this problem with adding images i guess u just dum

Alright kiddos, it's been a while but I've finally finished this plunderphonics chart. What other sample based music can you throw at me? (Not really interested in vaporwave)

rateyourmusic.com/release/album/mixed_band_philanthropist/the_impossible_humane/

ok month so far

For reference, I really liked the books, negativland, pic related not on chart, DJ Rozwell and the top row of classic albums but at this point I'll take anything I haven't heard of
Cheers I'll have a listen
