Also anyone who can guess which film this is gets a cookie.
why do you love that? bums used to gather round a burning can to stay warm before jewliani. are you too young to remember the real ny op? sad.
Maybe because I've seen a lot of the trope back when I was a kid and it gives me nostalgia?
yes user, new york was a crime infested shithole in the 80s
that's called good realism
Batman
for some reason I thought it was Darkman
Nope.
I don't like it because it's realistic, it just makes me feel comfy.
I think Godzilla 1998 created a really unique and comfy NY atmosphere, which is surprising because it's not a very good movie. The only other movie I have seen that gets almost exactly the same atmospheric feeling is Mimic by del Toro (also a shitty movie). Very strange feeling watching both of those, moreso with Mimic because it's kind of supposed to be a fucked up horror movie but it has all these weird 90s kid friendly things in it too. Don't care much for del Toro in general, though, so who cares
I'm guessing Escape From New York or Dick Tracy
Also, there's nothing special about burning barrels. Here in Philly those are out all the time in the outside markets when its cold out.
robocop
The steam that comes up from the ground in NY settings
ninja turtles
>wins the lottery/huge inheritance/successful get rich scheme/etc.
>live lavishly
>start being giant douches
>get rekt somehow and go broke
>self-reflection
>mend broken bonds with friends and family
>everything back to normal by the end of the episode
Good guess but no.
Also I'm a Eurofag and I've never seen one in real life.
I don't hate 90's Godzilla (but I understand it), but I think that's nostalgia talking, because it used to get played on one of the German tv channels I watched growing up, and the God-tier trailer forever cemented itself into my mind. Jewish marketing execs had some excellent execution on that one.
Jason Takes Manhattan

King of New York?
I don't even believe that answer myself, but I'm spitballing here
adventures in babysitting
Again no. I had no idea this movie was so obscure.
hint: it's from a (somewhat iconic) horror movie.
Sadly this movie is where the series went downhill.

>OP already killed it with his stupid guessing game
This wasn't supposed to happen.
the Friday the 13th movie where they go to Manhattan?
>>there's a burning barrel
True story.
I had to take the train out of Los Angeles just a few months back. It's the middle of the summer. It was 90 degrees outside. We were cruising along the LA river. Suddenly I see a burning barrel. No one around. Just a burning barrel.
Weird as fuck.
Hellraiser 3?
>>thread was supposed to be about 80s - 90's movie tropes

Keep guessing, just don't leave before you say it.

I actually hate this. I hate this a lot. I hate most stories that have this sort of pattern.
>rollerblading near the beach
>hotels in Miami
>pre-90s movie
>everybody is white
>also takes place in New York (80s - 90s)
>distant siren in the background
>car honking
Why are NY movies always so comfy?
>Also New York movies from the 80s or 90s
>shot of the skyline with the twin towers
