I think a major thing a lot of you are missing is also one of the most obvious: FOOD.
There will be massive shortages and nobody will have enough to eat. Robbing, looting, murder, even cannibalism. This will easily wipe out a third of the global population, and the ensuing WWIII during all this chaos will wipe out another third. You should expect at least half of the population worldwide to perish. No food means higher crime rates, another world war will mean the only place you're guaranteed to get food is in the army (the government will at least feed the troops, which will be a major incentive for joining during the conflict) and the war itself will take a massive number of lives.
Once the masses get hungry they'll willingly give away all their rights to the government or commit the worst crimes imaginable to survive. It's not that difficult to imagine.
