I had "good" taste when I was a young kid because my father had decent taste. Then, at about 9, I branched off on my own to discover stuff for myself. Since my taste was developing, I was very open to most music, and while there was some stuff I disliked, I was not yet able to discern good from bad to the extent that I could by 16 or 17. I assume this is how the process works for most people.
