>The western front was manned by the worst of the nazi army

>Rommel was a shit commander the americans played up to feel better about themselves

WW2 movies really look pathetic when you learn the actual history. America, Britain and France struggled to beat the lowest tier Germans while Russia and China had to carry.

t. Vladimir Raskolnikov

Yea that bloody German/Chinese front...so many good men died.

>china
They helped but they were helpless against the japs. The biggest contributors on the ally side were the British, the Russians, the Americans and then we have Australians, Greeks and Chinese that played a big part in the allied victory

will he re-enact this scene of Nolan World War Two kino?

>WW2 movies really look pathetic when you learn the actual history.

Moreso when you realize that the Axis powers never stood a chance and the entire war was an "oh shit" reaction to the allies checking their expansion. Germany only declared War on Britain and France after they declared war on Germany for invading Poland which Hitler didn't expect to happen. Japan hit Pearl Harbor because they couldn't maintain their now giant empire without invading oil rich countries that America would surely attack them for invading so they gambled on a first strike. Britain was reading Germany's coded messages from day 1 and only got better after they got enigma. The US was reading Japan's coded messages from before Pearl Harbor.

It's shocking that the war wasn't over a year or two sooner with how hilariously fucked Germany and Japan were. I mean Japan lost half of it's carrier strength in one battle in 1942. The Pacific took as long as it did because America wanted to liberate each and every one of those little shithole islands instead of just bum-rushing Japan.

forgot pic

>China had to carry

lol China beat the Nazis?

Will there be a fake baby in this one?

When France fell and public opinion in the USA was overwhelmingly isolationist it looked pretty fucking dire. Its easy to gloss over, but France falling in a month was a complete shock to everyone. Nobody even took the war very seriously until that happened.

Cool.

We need more war movies, of all kinds.

Teach the normies a bit or some shit. It's good for ya.

He's talking about China v Japan

France fell so fast because the British expeditionary force was useless, the French army wasn't big enough to stand on its own, and the French leadership put way too many eggs into the Maginot Line basket and the Germans just walked around that. In hindsight it's no surprise at all that France folded so quickly and it really isn't a case of "oh the french are cowards that's why they lost" It's more that their leadership was fucked and their idiot all or nothing defense tactic failed. I'm sure if France had structured their armed forces more like the British or any of their other EU contemporaries they probably would have put up a much better fight.

Europe was a very fractured, paranoid, and strange place in the 1930's people seem to forget that.

Right. But the point is France was still one of the two major victors of WW1 and a global empire only outdone by the British...and the Germans conquered metropolitan France in a little more than a month. At that point there's no way the allies (aka the British, alone) could look at themselves and say "eh, we still got this thing"...they were in full freakout mode until Hitler turned east and they could catch their breaths.

Honestly WWII bores me to death.

fascinating stuff for an uneducated pleb like myself. Are there any books worth reading on WW2?

with the correct information rommel could have mopped them up on the beach or stalled the invasion and turned it into a ww1 type bloodbath.

>China had to carry
You mean non-stop retreat while flooding your own dams and drowning 500,000+ people.

The allies saved Asia's arse, there's no debate.

Will he give half his paycheck to the obligatory humble female villager actress and help her negotiate better wages?

Jennifer Lawrence is doing her own World War 2 flick

I disagree with your last assessment, the campaign was by design supposed to bypass and starve many japanese garisons, the islands to be attacked had value for stratrgic bombing

*SIGH* Let me guess

Germans=bad angry people

Kikes=opressed dindu nuffins

They need to keep pumping out that propaganda to further push their globalist agenda don't they?

Allah forbid the years of brainwashing fades away from the goy's brain.

Either way may peace be upon you brothers, praise Muhammad may he rest in peace, Allahu Akbar.

My non-muslim senses are tingling

She could not be less fitting for a historical setting. She seemed wildly out of place in the fucking 70's.

but...ya know...box office draw and all

Their seems to be ALOT of ww2 movies lately. But that's good cause generation snowflake needs to learn of the manlier ww2 generation

thats not how he phrased it

> the French army wasn't big enough to stand on its own
This is what Frogs really believe.

>China
>literally gets assraped by a small island nation

TAKBIR

>ALOT

>China

They couldn't handle the japs! And we basically bent them over are knee, come on now

>China had to carry

Love this meme. Japan lost around 2 million men in the period of the Second Sino-Japanese War and WW2. China only inflicted around 500,000 casualties while losing 20 million civilians+soldiers. Totally looks like carrying.

I'm sure the nation that literally assraped Japan's navy, retook the Southeast Pacific, and firebombed Japan into ashes totally didn't play one of the bigger roles in the Pacific War.

When did WWII flicks start gaining traction again?

>British expeditionary force was useless

Completely wrong. The French forces were under strength and under supplied. The BEF was lied to about the comparative strength of the French forces. They were told by the French "This part is not possible to get through" and were told "Our army is equipped and supplied". The British pre-arranged for the French to do the majority of the land battles while the British did the sea battles.

Then when the fights ACTUALLY started, the British small force suddenly realised it was carrying a French force utterly gutted by WW1. Furthermore, the Mangoit line was unfinished and the garrisons on them had 8 bullets between each soldier. The British ended up having to supply the French and themselves.

The hilarious thing is, they nearly won. The only reason they didn't was because German generals (mainly Rundstedt) ignored the order from Hitler to consolidate and used the superior speed (but less armoured and less powerful) tanks to encircle the French and the British in a pocket.

But the main reason was because the Germans had spent the 30's developing the perfect (at the time) attack aircraft and basically had free reign to attack any position set up by the French and British. Again, this was due to the fact the French didn't have the money or supplies to mount a proper airforce and the British couldn't get fighters over the channel in time to prevent the ground forces being wrecked.

In a straight up 1v1 fight the Germans would have lost and it was only down to oppotunistic generals disobeying direct orders that allowed it to get that far.

Then Dunkirk happened and the French brag about how selfless they were staying behind. Despite the fact it would NEVER have gotten that far had they not lied and not been arrogant to think the forests were impenetrable. Oh and they forget the British evacuated them en masse and lost all their heavy equipment in doing so. All because the French couldn't admit they were weak.

American Sniper

Same reason it's happening in vidya, because people have had enough of modern shit.

Besides, the CURRENT ERA wars haven't been like WW2. WW2 was fantastic because how technology advanced, the tactics used and the fact that when the Americans FINALLY got their asses into the war, there was no Go on Patrol, Go back to FoB, Sit for 10 Hours, Go on Patrol, Go back to FoB, Sit for 10 Hours, Go on Patrol, Fire Fight, Go back to FoB etc. WW2 was constant village to village, battle to battle, where every hedge or building could have death hidden. Plus the fact the factions involved were ARMIES as in they would make plans and tactics and 'meet up' on the 'field of battle' to actually fight. Gulf War 2: Electric Boogaloo doesn't have that, it has guerilla warfare.

But the main reason? WW2 is, in Americans non-Sup Forums eyes as the last 'good war'. Where there was an easy good guys and bad guys side. From their perspective. Everybody knows War on Terror had political and economic reasons. What started out as a "fuck our people are scared, we need a target to fuck up so they feel less scared" mission turned into "lets use it to destabilise X, lets use it get Y and lets use it to kick that CIA operative go rogue out of Iraq". It just kept expanding.

So WW2 is a lot easier to do. Plus there is less "Fuck storming that town and fighting street by street, let's just call in an artillery barrage AND a cruise missile strike AND an airstrike AND chopper support". Not that easy making stories. That's why American Sniper, Hurt Locker and so on are 'small scale' stories.

Film makers want to do WW2 because with budgets these days you can make shit look sexy. There needs to be a D-Day landing covering the British, Canadian and French beaches, where they used Herbets Funnies.

A huge Battle of Stalingrad or Battle of Kursk or Battles of Rzhev would be sweet. I can't think of a suitable big non-done western front battle.

Jesus Christ read a book

Anything by Antony Beevor is a good start

>a big budget D-Day movie
How can anyone not want this?
