Also if you're an older guy and remember film industry news in 2001, there was a bit of contention where very many people wanted it up for Best Picture but assmad Hollywood jews refused to let a Japanese cartoon possibly win the most prestigious award so it still got relegated to Animated Feature much to quite a bit of backlash.

awards are not worth shit, Chihiro is clearly a superficial movie made for children and women, hence its success, whereas Mononoke and Grave of the Fireflies touch upon deeper themes.

How was The Red Turtle?

Chihiro is the name of the main character, not the name of the movie. It isn't superficial and it touches on "deeper" themes too. And yes awards do mean quite a lot in this case.

It's mediocre. It doesn't have the level of detail I expected, artstyle isn't great, the direction is average, he never really explores the island or anything, the lack of dialogue becomes contrived after a point, the soundtrack doesn't fit and he's on the island for a million years but he never invents cover from rain/anything else.

...but... rt score is... 90

So the same score as a bunch of recent superhero movies.

There's really nothing to it. A dialogue-less movie about a guy stuck on an island sounds great, but it completely loses steam half way though, when he fucks the turtle and it goes full retard.

This. They're mostly cute and actually likable, unlike the coll edgy and strong female characters Hollywood keep trying to create. It's not realistic and non normies fucking know it.

Ghibli also does stronk women characters. Look at Mononoke. There are only two notable (human) male characters in the film.
