The former protects a small number of jobs at the cost of sending every food manufacture reliant on sugar, such as confectioners and chocolatiers who can't use HFCS in place of sugar, overseas to acquire cheaper sugar before importing their goods. A 350% tariff on sugar is why Hershey's left the country, for example.

The latter stabilizes profit margins for farmers at the cost of making HFCS the go-to sweetener for every company which can use it in place of sugar. Our government literally pays farmers to burn excess corn production as a means of controlling the supply and prices.

It's all very stupid and I wish they would just stop, but nearly all elected Democrats and most elected Republicans support this garbage.
