pretty fucking goofy but I love it, it's quite funky

Japanese funk was a major inspiration for Mario Kart and early Gran Turismo, specifically Casiopea and T-Square

You mean with a sense of humor. Zappas 73-75 period.

I love that everyone is recommending some of my favorite music (Caldera, RtF, Casiopea). I've always thought Yellowjackets first album bridged that perfect gap between Fusion and 80's jazz.

This showed up on my google music radio the other day. Haven't listened to it in whole but it kinda sounded to me like it was halfway between gentle giant and mahavishnu orchestra, so if you haven't checked them out, give them a shot.

I went thru a heavy Jazz Fusion phase about 2 years ago and discovered Caldera when I was scouring the internet for Jazz Fusion albums. Of course I started off with Return to Forever. Will checkout Yellowjackets tho.

...

This. Chunga's Revenge as well.

nice dubs btw

Yeah their first album is perfect, no bad songs. I'm sure you've listed to Al Di Meola's solo albums then? They're right between RtF and Caldera sound wise.

I'd also rec Mezzoforte

Thanks for your post and thanks for the suggestion! Got any others? I'm more a fan of Jfusion and Citypop so I've never really bridged the gap between Steely Dan and Japan.

well I recommended Mezzoforte above and Capcom pretty much stole that song for MvC2.

I'm guessing you've heard The Square?
SPORTS is their most funky 80's album

Kukeiha Club? This was a bunch of Konami musicians

Casiopea is definitely my favorite and this is probably their most known song

Casiopea and T-Square are my jam. They're great. Awesome suggestions, thanks.

Those two and Masayoshi Takanaka get me out of bad moods. The energy is so great.
