I hate a lot more than I like. I don't have a band that I like more of the songs they have made than I hate. I seem to hate the entire genre of thrash besides Metallica and actually unironically like Saint Anger because I appreciate the emotion in the songs. Yes, Industrial and Nu Metal can both have their appeal, but most are edginess without any sort of melody. Death Metal is real hit or miss for me, I like a couple songs, even if they never really draw me in too much, but most lack choruses and are just relatively uninteresting. Metalcore is atrocious for me (actually, any core is for some reason, even bands that just take elements from the core genres like Black Dahlia Murder). I can't stand tenor or any high pitched male vocals, so power metal is an impossibility. Black Metal vocals aren't the worst, but nothing really draws me in either, I have even tried stuff like Borknagar without success. Progressive metal is technical messes without any sense of order. Doom is too slow and thus relatively uninteresting, gothic being similar means it is only slightly more bearable (can't get into Theatre of Tragedy, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, or any of that stuff).
I seem to like female fronted metal bands, but only if they are classically oriented, so symphonic if actually symphonic in my eyes. Within Temptation is a good example of what I find atrocious in the genre. All of Liv Kristine's stuff is equally boring, I am not sure she is a good singer.
So what do I like? After Forever's Prison of Desire. Absolutely obsessed with that album, that is metal done right in my eyes. If you need more emotional intensity and power, Tristania's World of Glass is also wonderful, though I get nitpicky on the songs there because I hate the idea of one word being spoken at a time like they have asthma. Nightwish is decent, but much more hit or miss. I love Nemo, but find the male vocals atrocious, everything after Wishmaster isn't as interesting generally.
