No that's not a sleeping pill that's a ship

ITT: jelly bananas

goddamn I'd rerally like some of those right now

No it's a movie poster.

No it's an image of a movie poster.

>WHY ARE THEY HERE?
>we need help in fucking 3000 years lol

>i need help
>leave
autism

Fpbp

I literally fell asleep

>implying humans will last another 3000 years..

>WHY ARE YOU HERE
>some dumbass parents thought they could concieve a normal person

the suffering and depression of the female protagonist is completely unrelateable on any level if you don't understand the twist, i don't know what or why the movie even expected me to feel

Where did this shitty upvote meme come from?

You would think they could just send a telegram or some shit for such a basic message. Why all those ships, what's the point when one would have been enough? And why 3000 years early? It's dumb.

We lasted all this time without blowing each other up with nuclear bombs so we might last another 1000 years

we've only had nukes for like 50 years retard

Yeah, and we're still here

Remember how fucking paranoid people were in the 60s about nuclear war and nothing happened

I only watched this because GitS:SAC referenced it. It's about people we don't care about doing things of no importance very slowly. The only good parts are the circus scenes, presumably because making a circus scene boring was too difficult for the director.

I wish Patrick Sylvester's works were real

...yet

Except full on nuclear war has ALMOST been trigerred on several occasions.....Like that time a Russian nuclear-armed submarine got a false report that the US was launching missiles at its enemies.... all the personnel required to verify the launching of the nuke gave the go-ahead, except ONE. MAN. Literally, one man prevented an all out nuclear war

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_Soviet_nuclear_false_alarm_incident

Oh I linked the wrong thing, the story I was thinking of happened during the Cold War

they needed humans to communicate or something im not sure why

literally shut it off after 2 seconds it was so boring

You should stick to anime.

I literally fell asleep IN the theatre

I never watched another one of these

I don't object to slow movies on principle. I enjoyed 2001 and that has long scenes of nothing much happening too.

The first one was the only good one.

ITT: Brainlets post movies they're to dumb to appreciate

fucking whispering chinese man inexplicably saves the day

"what did I tell you"

"whisper whisper ;)"

You seem to be retarded.

The aliens perceive time as happening all at once. 3000 years is "now" for them and they also have no will to change the future.

boring

Expain to us why an alien race travels across the galaxy with so many ships 3000 years in advance to deliver a single sentence message so vague it's nearly worthless. Since you know, you're so much smarter than us and all.

...

How does that bait taste?

I really liked it but there's one thing that always bothers me about these first encounter movies. Why is a preemptive attack even considered?

There's two outcomes here.

1. They're peaceful and attacking them would be a disaster.
2. They're not peaceful, but they're way more advanced so we stand no chance anyway.

In either situation an attack would be either pointless or bad. There is literally no reason to attack.

They hadn't learned the language yet

Stalker. Unironically.

I wanted to like it and I like the vibe but it was hours and hours of 98% nothing

the translations all suck so it's already harder to stay engaged on dialogue alone

most of the shots are static landscapes of nothing

Right, can someone explain this movie to me. I'm not interested in watching it, but I'm intrigued enough to want to know why it's boring/ dumb

...

What the fuck...?

They could see the future and saw humans, who possessed foresight, saving their species. So they knew humans needed to learn their language, which is why they came to teach us.

It's a bootstrap paradox.

I started falling asleep 30 minutes in

2001 a space odyssey by stanley kubrick. everytime i would doze off they'd play that loud signature music as if they're screaming "wake up and watch our movie". literally walked out after the end of the movie

>Literally walked out after the end of the movie

The first half is so suspenseful and beautiful, don't know how you could sleep through that

>literally walked out after the end of the movie

someone stop this madman

Are we talking about films that are really boring, or films we like to watch when winding down for the night?

same here.

Hive mind. Anyway, after literally forcing myself to finish this, I refuse to respect anyone that likes tarkovsky.

suspenseful how? the girl was just depressed because her daughter dies and so i don't care about her emotions and i felt no involvement in the trying to understand their language because there was literally no mystery, we were just told about their progress in a dear diary sort of way.

i would've liked it if there was a real puzzle going on like a sherlock holmes story that i might try to understand but all the interesting language stuff just gets training montaged. i liked the scenery porn and i liked the aliens but the only time this movie made me feel emotion was the abbott and costello joke

The original short story is one of Chiang's most boring too. They should have adapted "72 letters" (about golems and preformationism), that would obviously make a good movie.

web.archive.org/web/20010802144026/http://www.tor.com/72ltrs.html

you know what though as much as i didn't enjoy myself watching this movie i still feel good that sci fi movies like this are still being made because tonally it was nice and quiet and it could've been an abomination with no self respect. at least the attempt was made

youtube.com/watch?v=G8U21reHexg

it's not really suspenseful, and the beauty dissipates by the time that stupid ass narration+time skip comes.

>by the same guy that made enemy
now i get the alien hallucination jumpscare
this fag is paying homage to himself

>Make first contact
>learn language
>get autism

>director of Prisoners and Sicario
>no mention of Enemy
What was the public's reaction to that movie, even?

Watched it with my boyfriend and fell asleep
So fucking boring, maybe i just didnt get it

oh, this is a great example of subtle trolling.

I don't think most people know it exists

Because this movie is for white alpha males only

I really didn't care for enemy either, but arrival is somehow even worse.

Prisoners, Incendies, and Sicario were great too. How do you go so high to so low

I only knew of it when it came out due to Sup Forums but had already seen Prisoners (which I also hasn't heard of til I randomly found it On Demand). I loved them both though so really need to see Sicario still and Arrival.

eyo i have a question about master and commander
was russell crowe's character lying about having encountered the legendary ship commander? when the amputated kid begged him to tell him a story he refused, and when the officers asked him about his encounter in the dining room he just deflected the question by turning it into a joke.

was he just putting on airs? it's been years and this still bugs me

Lord Nelson?

I think he was just full of hot air trying to make the kid feel better

Well prisoners was pretty popular, since it has two famous leads. Enemy has a limited release and I don't think Jake has a pull on the box-office for the average person.

They already KNOW we will help them in 300 years. They just visited to set it in motion. Have you even seen the film?

classic paul dano

I've watched the first part two times but can't force myself to watch the second. Eventually I'll just watch part two by itself.

>the translations all suck so it's already harder to stay engaged on dialogue alone

I understand Russian well enough to watch it without subtitles and it's still boring.

But i am white and i'm the top

>DUDE ITS JUST PIXELS ON A SCREEN

This movie put me in a coma everytime I tried to watch it

ITT: plebs with the attention span of children that should stick to capeshit

> doesn't like Enemy
> doesn't like Arrival
DUDE JUST SHUT YOUR BRAIN OFF LOL

she wasnt depressed about her daughter dying retard. she didnt even have a daughter yet lmao

she was reverse depressed over a daughter she never even had because her future self got mindfucked by alien language which gave her past self circular time vision but it only happened gradually so at the beginning she didn't realize why she's depressed and then she realized she wasn't even depressed yet it's just her future mind sending the depression backwards or maybe forwards it's all a circle m8

not at all. she didnt start getting depressed until she started having the visions, which was like half way through the movie.

the first vision the viewer sees is less than 5 minutes into the movie and she starts the movie depressed as fuck m8 so it's obviously to be assumed that she could've had visions before.

they would've made her start out happy and slowly descend into madness if what you're saying is true but they went for the whole circular memery where the ending of the movie is tied with the beginning
