When the security room in the season finale locked down, the table with westworld went into the ground and sealed itself off. If it was only a hologram as 1:1cucks claim, then it would simply turn off, and there would be no reason to have special protection for it. Shrink theory will be 100% confirmed as canon in season 2

this show spend over 2 years in rewrite and reshoot hell and all they got for it was a slopy mess of a show where none of the story arcs flowed into each other

Ford played the MIB like a fiddle by giving him what he wants, thus ensuring enough time for the hosts to further develop consciousnesses and forge their own paths without outside interference.
Furthermore, if the handshake is to be believed, Ford is either dead already or in hiding.

I would say MiB was crucial to Dolores solving "the maze". His moments of cruelty were the first points that Dolores usually remembered and his reveal that he was William are what pushed Dolores to finally push away her "fantasy" hope that she needed to "become the person she had to become"

an additional level to the pyramid

A few important things I feel are being overlooked.

There is a whole new structure for the company at the end of the episode that could hint to next seasons plot.

Ford kills the entire board and himself using the hosts he has liberated for the new narrative. The board celebration was a trap so he could hand the park over to someone who understands it's purpose, William:MIB

There are liberated hosts inside west world (delores, teddy, and all te rest to be honest). There are liberated hosts outside the park (armistice, maeve).

The last point is the corporation has a whole new structure using previous key employees.
The board is dead, leaving William/MIB as the owner and he fills Fords position as man in charge.
The narratives will be written by the same man who has been already been writing them. He survived the massacre because he was in host storage.
The R&D department has Elsie, she is almost certainly alive. If Bernard was under Fords control, he did not kill her but instead brought her into the park to save her from the new narrative, same with stubbs.
Stubbs didn't die, he was saved to be the head of security in the new administration, alongside elsie.
Felix and his partner are alive, covering the cleanup and host repair side of the house.
There is a person to lead each department of the new administration that knows what happened during the new narrative revolution (Elsie would inform Stubbs).

The maze has been solved and the new administration is free to run the park/hosts as they see fit, led by william/MIB who owns the park.

His goal is for the hosts to fight back so he can see in them what he initially saw in Dolores but never found again: Real beings capable of conscious thought and action. In his own twisted way, he's after what both Ford and Arthur where after.
All that sadistic shit he's been doing: pushing them until they start pushing back. He noticed that during suffering, they seemed the most real. So he brought that reality to them time and again and especially to his waifu Dolores.

I interpreted Maeve leaving the train as her failing the test. She weren't ready for the real world, as she succumbed to her emotions and returned to the park to chase an illusory memory. Is this right?

Also this has to be Hopkins finest role in years, very satisfying to see him in this.
