The Japanese had to divert a lot of their better troops to the Pacific because the US forces were succeeding in the Pacific campaign, so the Soviets after they could focus on the Pacific due to the western allied front being so successful easily invaded Manchuria and defeated the imperial japanese troops. American troops did all of the hard fighting on the Japanese controlled islands, while the Soviets easily invaded bordering territory that was in a weakened state.

The USSR would still exist if America didn't enter WWII and most of Europe would have communist governments led by Soviet influenced or backed leaders. Today the world is objectively better since this is not the case.
