I know this sounds weird, but am I the only one who can't dig most black jazz artists? I think it's the same reason why I can't dig bebop, it's too much meaningless badibapadupba and there's never a heartfelt melody in between. It's like they're just filling space.
Some white jazz artists on the other hand really get to me, I get quite emotionally attached to some of them, Jobim mainly, but guys like Bill Evans, Jim Hall and obviously Chet really speak to me. I guess that's their classical influence coming through, but Miles went to Juiliard and few songs of his get to me emotionally.
>jazz
Fuck off Fusion. Fusion is not jazz nigger
This is the only one here worth a damn . Also check out Mal Waldrons The Quest and Dukes Nutcracker reinterpretation (it's solid he also did one of Peer Gynt)
Shut the fuck up with this shit and recommend something you like.
Listened to this a few days ago, classic really good

I see the autism is strong with this one. Do you also like Spillane?
>News for Lulu
>not jazz
Genuinely curious, what are you on about? Haven't heard Spillane before, will check it out.
Smooth
I'd say try the Modern Jazz Quartet. Also Jobim definitely wasn't that classically inspired, I feel.
it's kind alike the sims ost
youtube.com
bump
Its jazz but I don't think of that when I think of jazz. He did a good pretty Coleman cover album though too

sketches of spain - miles davis
Phronesis is so good
I'm not a newcomer to jazz, I've been listening for a while, and making an effort to understand the classics might I add. But as I said before, most of those considered classics just sound like random noodling to me. I'll listen to something like Wes for a while but quickly get bored. The more rhytmic players just seem to lack expression(I'm talking on a personal level, no need to get triggered for anyone reading this). As I noticed that I gradually replaced jazz with classical, and I listen to pretty much only classical now, on a consistent basis at least. I guess I never really felt connected to jazz, it was more of a novelty kind of thing.
unironically a great album
gee someone's a little mad
This is Anthony Davis' Variations In Dreamtime. Very cool free jazz in the vein of I guess Coltrane's Ascension? But it's not the same as it has some composition based aspects to it, too kinda making it between free jazz and third stream.
Miles Davis' Dark Magus. Fuck fusion haters imma put it in. This album's been a huge influence on everything from noise rock to hip hop to jungle music. Very colorful and crazy.
Thanks to jtg this album's been talked about quite a bit in terms of modern jazz releases, but this is great in terms of being a jazzy ass jazz album if that makes any sense. Imo it's good for newer listeners to jazz as well as it has everything that makes jazz itself an interesting genre to listen to while what's being played is very upbeat and exciting.
Ok, that's a fair point. I kind of get where your point is going.
Just go listen to Mingus already
Great album, I remember when I got a copy on vinyl for like 4 bucks.
I still prefer Aghartha and On the Corner, but a jam nonetheless
I’ll say:
Hank Mobley - Roll Call
Art Blakey - Orgy in Rhythm
Freddie Hubbard - Red Clay
Lastly I'll post this release from this year. Tyshawn Sorey's Verisimilitude takes a different approach to jazz. It's just a piano, bass, and drums. But they are emulating shit like electroacoustic music and drones from indian classical music.

>4 bucks
Damn, how? Pretty jealous.
>I still prefer Aghartha and On the Corner, but a jam nonetheless
Yeah, those are the ones people mention when it comes to that time period from Miles, but I think that those with more abrasive tastes will really like Dark Magus.
