Tetsuo creates a new universe. Duh.

Read the manga. The movie is only like 1/4 the story

How do you feel knowing Kanye West is smarter than you?

It's some 2deep4u bullshit like Radical Shinji's Congraturatory Journey, don't bother making sense of it.

New big bang

Tetsuo is a metaphor for the atomic bomb, Akira represents post-WW2 Japan. The movie is about Japan's anxiety regarding the country's massive growth following them getting nuked.

>Big bang

I don't remember the movie hinted that in any form

chuuni garbage liked by manchidren

We should bomb them again. Never forget pearl harbor.

Akira wasn't really a movie. It was eye candy for the people that read the manga that wanted to see some of the biggest events on motion.

It's not 2deep4u it's not confusing. It's just not for you. Anyone that claims "oh hey guys i totally understood the akira movie! And I never read it!" is straight up lying to you. It's LITERALLY just highlights from the manga.

Read the manga lol. The film is such a cop-out that Akira doesn't even exist.

Reminder the rise of Sup Forumsedditors coming over to Sup Forums as a result of Bane memes has led to a shift in taste on Sup Forums

99% of the anime threads here are made by Sup Forumsedditors who only watch LE EPIC MANIME shonen trash and are too scared to post on Sup Forums because no one wants to talk about the same 5 old classic anime that only entry level newfaggots know about. Then they cry about Sup Forums having shit taste and proceed to buy their next avengers movie ticket.

Sup Forums has actually done a fantastic job at keeping out you Sup Forumseddit scum and so all you faggots come crying here because no one wanted to accommodate your newfaggotry.

Also you all treat Sup Forums as a place to ask for recommendations when was made to deal with garbage threads like these that aren't actually discussing anything. This thread should be deleted but since Sup Forums mods are garbage it won't be.

Dont like it? Go back to your board manchild.

Tribal-Retro-Futurism in Sup Forums when ?
youtube.com/watch?v=tdeOc4J6ziA

doesnt take anything away from it being a fantastic film.

The manga goes off in a different direction even though most of the main ideas are the same. Trying to condense it into a 2 hour animated movie would just result in a terrible mess.

>Tetsuo is a metaphor for the atomic bomb

well that doesnt make any sense at all. If tetsuo were a metaphor for japans society and economy, it would make a hell of alot more sense considering it was written during Japans economic boom period.

eat shit

How can a chinese cartoon movie have so god-tier OST?

youtu.be/x6MlA8vNH74

they borrow heavily from Koyaanisqatsi, just with alot more Asia added to it.
youtube.com/watch?v=C6Il58Ln4cI
Though I think both OST are great pieces of works.

Extremely accurate. Sup Forums users don't sit in a circle and jack each other off about Evangelion and Akira because they've been there and done that; as has anyone else who has seen more than even 50 series (extremely low amount realistically).

Agreed. Two bombs gave us cute anime girls, imagine what a third will do!

The movie is its own story.

Anime has always emphasized music, and doesn't follow the common Western convention of making the music "invisible."

From another Outomo movie:
youtube.com/watch?v=jf48G_fYgyU

Anime (unfortunatly) dont have 50 series worth watching. You could condense it down to about 20 - 25 and about 30 - 40 or so movies. Watching anything more than that is digging for gold when the mountain is mined dry. You might find some fools gold once in a blue moon.

Anime peaked long ago, sitting around discussing newer animes on Sup Forums rarely amounts to anything else but waifu faggotry and a bunch of hype threads.

...

>Anime (unfortunatly) dont have 50 series worth watching. You could condense it down to about 20 - 25 and about 30 - 40 or so movies.
This is based on people watching the handful of eternally popular and recommended anime and assuming that everything else must be shit. There can be as many as 50 new shows in a single season these days (not including short format shows).

>Anime peaked long ago, sitting around discussing newer animes on Sup Forums rarely amounts to anything else but waifu faggotry and a bunch of hype threads.
What does that have to do with anime? It's just Sup Forums being Sup Forums, it has no bearing on what the industry does.

noone does but your gonna see an avalanche of poeple full of themselves int his thread

i tapped out when it turned into dbz

you're in every anime thread on Sup Forums shitting shit up and have been doing so for the better part of 2 years. Your autism rivals that of abatap.

Tetsuo transcended the limitations of his physical form

This

The movie isn't meant for you.

It was literally made as a love letter to Japanese fans of the manga and only makes sense to them.

But basically, Tetsuo becomes so powerful that he can no longer contain it. His energy tries to escape restrictions of his physical form, which is why he turns into a big pile of shit.

The cripple kids trigger Akira as he is kinda the opposite to Tetsuo's positive - the ying to his yang. Akira's power devours Tetsuo.

It's far better explained in the manga.

Well you're wrong with your numbers, there's at least ~200 series, movies, and OVAs worth watching that are culturally and artistically significant I would say. However, you're right about everything else you said. It's what they like to do though, some people collect videos of kittens being stepped on by women in high heels, more people watch awful manga/light novel anime adaptations with no interesting animation or cultural significance. Could do a lot worse for a hobby imho.

>What does that have to do with anime? It's just Sup Forums being Sup Forums, it has no bearing on what the industry does.

yes, but that is why we are here instead of on Sup Forums where such a thread would be either carpetbombed with shitposters or would drop off page 10 in under an hour.

CANADA

So wait
Is this outsider admitting hes a cancerous tourist?

>99% of the anime threads here are made by Sup Forumsedditors who only watch LE EPIC MANIME shonen trash and are too scared to post on Sup Forums because no one wants to talk about the same 5 old classic anime that only entry level newfaggots know about

Nobody wants to post on Sup Forums, because it's Sup Forums. Have you been to Sup Forums?

99% of anime is unwatchable garbage anyway.

>look mom I posted it again!!
Moeshit is shit, waifufaggotry is shit, and you are shit.
Now fuck off and let the grown ups discuss real anime.

>le 99% meme

What did he mean by this? I thought they were Japanese?

Calling it a meme doesn't change the fact that it's true.

>waifufaggotry is shit
This is adorable. Waifufaggtory telling everyone to accept everyone on this board is one of the main reasons why you're posting on Sup Forums right now

Call Sup Forums pedoshit now too so I can have an even better laugh

>Call Sup Forums pedoshit now too so I can have an even better laugh

Sup Forums way outperforms Sup Forums in that regard so no.

Moeshit doesn't mean anything.

It isn't true, it's just another shitty meme invented by people who don't know what they're talking about.

Is it going to envelope this one?

The scientist did, before he dieded.

Then you haven't seen it in a while. The scientist directly states

>If this is correct, then we're witnessing the birth of the universe...

They're both different.

I'd say they're much more different than similar. Indeed both are great.

That's unfortunate for you.

>It was literally made as a love letter to Japanese fans of the manga and only makes sense to them.

Be quiet.

Because the movie is an extremely truncated version of a sci-fi epic that makes zero sense.

By the time the movie was released Otomo had only written/drew the first 3 volumes of the manga, so the story is loosely based on those. He always knew what the ending would be so he sort of tacked that on to the story.

But the manga makes a lot more fucking sense.

>Read the manga
Every weeb ever.

It is a cliche and often an excuse, but Akira seems to be an exception.

To be fair the manga gets away with a lot more beautiful spectacles than the film since there are no limitations.

>Japs stir up a bunch of shit that nearly destroys the world
>"G-get out of our country, Americans! W-w-we can handle ourselves!"

You don't have to..

It was a horrible ending. Didn't care about you, don't care about it

Well they can and did handle it. The Americans intervening didn't really do anything. Tetsuo's body was destroyed with the Japanese satellite S.O.L.

They shouldn't be allowed to almost destroy the world again.

But the Japs seem to have a handle on it, and it's well within their power to resist foreign forces attempting to occupy their homeland. If foreign forces don't take Kaneda's threat seriously, well like Kaneda said, it'll lead to war.

who in their right mind would be proud of Sup Forums?

So, who should be in charge of the inevitable live action adaptation?

One day they may not have a handle on it, and all of humanity would be fucked.

Idris Elba

>Sup Forumsedditors
>grown ups

Shamalamaadingdong.

Then it's up to foreign powers to beat down the Japs, and the Japs to fight back. Whoever wins gets the power.

>99% of anime is unwatchable garbage anyway.

t. Sup Forumsedditor who only watches entry level

Here are some FACTS about Akira:

1) The manga is highly overrated. The film is better.

2) The movie is easy to understand. Crashing into a genetically engineered psychic kid triggers Tetsuo's psychic power: he does various shit, luckily including reawakening the most powerful psychic kid of all, Akira, who helps him ascend to godhood

3) the message of the manga is that Japanese are the ultimate race and no matter how much you bomb they will rise up and take over the world

Has anyone read the manga and come along liking the movie more anyway? There's just so much junk in the comic that seems unnecessary. I know a lot of it is commentary on Japan but still it just seems like there's so much crap in it. And the ending sucks in it too although in a very different way.

The ending of the manga was retarded as well.

Keneda doomed everyone in Tokyo to live in post-apocalyptic shithole. Because m-muh youth!

Fucking idiot.

What is there not to get. There is a reason Tetsuo looks like a giant baby at the end. All the power he gets causes him to evolve and be reborn into something cosmically different.

No Akira use Tetsuo to create a new universe

>Keneda doomed everyone in Tokyo to live in post-apocalyptic shithole

What? The ending panels show Kaneda, Kei, Kai and others riding off into a rebuilt Tokyo. Implying that they did eventually rebuild their country.

I think that 'new universe' bullshit is just a bad translation.

I don't think that's the explanation in the manga at all. Akira's power is the ying to Tetsuo's yang and Akira just devoures him. They both go to the afterlife or some shit.

The sun shaped bas-relief which is so prominent in the manga is the exact same as the final image of the movie - it's the source of all energy in the universe - or God. Tetsuo's final words of "I am Tetsuo" is his way of saying "sup?" to the afterlife.

Manga is overlong, boring, and mostly pointless. The film actual distills what it good about the manga and sensibly omits 900 pages of a butch lesbian searching for drinking water

>sensibly omits 900 pages of a butch lesbian searching for drinking water

Implying she isn't one of the best characters in the story. She literally reks everyone's shit whenever she's on the page.

>I think that 'new universe' bullshit is just a bad translation.
>I don't think that's the explanation in the manga at all. Akira's power is the ying to Tetsuo's yang and Akira just devoures him. They both go to the afterlife or some shit.

Mother fucking what the first part of the credits IS A BIG BANG HOW DID YO MISS THAT

youtube.com/watch?v=tdeOc4J6ziA

>Manga is overlong, boring, and mostly pointless

I can see how you'd think this if you don't like to stop and appreciate the drawings now and again. It's pornography for fans of black and white art.

>The film actual distills what it good about the manga and sensibly omits 900 pages of a butch lesbian searching for drinking water

You didn't like the aftermath of the explosion? That shit was great seeing society under Tetsuo and Akira's rule.

>>yfw real tentical monster

Whats her fuck has a lot of cool action but what personality does she have? If you replaced her with one of those robot tanks what would change? I mean no one here even remembers her name what kind of character is that.

fucking looser

Chiyoko. She's headstrong, determined, some sass in her (it would help if you turned the safety off), cares about Kei. Not the most well rounded character, but I enjoyed her whenever she was present.

How do you know what a big bang looks like nigga?

Well no one does really but we have an idea:

>Big bang
>Dark ages
>Formation of stars
>Formation of galaxies

The credits shows the stars and galaxies backwards, but it even has the dark ages in there.

My issue with the movie is how insanely fast everything happens in the 2 hour time span it's given.
Although the manga is far too long, it does give for a better transition of escalating the stakes.
The movie begins with a Tokyo street gang and ends with a literally new universe being created from a big bang in 120 minutes.
Can you imagine if they whipped the Avengers defeating Thanos with the Infinity Gaunlet in the first movie? It would be a shitstorm.

Can confirm this

A lot of otaku culture and media stems from the atomic bomb, Akira is in a way a meta reflection of this while being a part of it

Akira is the atomic bomb. Tetsuo and Kaneda are youths with no aspirations in a sprawling metropolis that doesn't care about them, only for the country to continue growing and producing more cool things. The school gym teacher beating the shit out of them (at least in the manga, he slaps and punches a few in the film), was pretty heavy-handed about that. There are a lot of subtle aspects of AKIRA that people never touch on because of the spectacle of everything. It's no Watchmen, but for Japan it's as close as they'll ever get.

How come no one mentions Jodoroski

Look up some of the other albums by that group, they're fantastic.

I think it's a bad movie (if lavishly produced).
The manga actually makes sense, the bad movie doesn't.

The movie makes sense. What are your problems with it?

hehehehe

Well obviously I disagree.

The whole dynamic between Kaneda and Tetsuo is lost because the whole rivalry is gone from the film, as are the parallels between Tetsuo and Akira because the time in the science center is almost wholly cut from the film.

The only people that liked it were people like Ebert that didn't get 2001 and thought this was the same sort of thing.

>Sup Forums way outperforms Sup Forums in that regard so no.
See this Sup Forumsedditors
Remember this next time you talk memes about Sup Forums or any other boards in regards of pedoshit

Cartoons belong on

its just a story of some nobody with no future almost destroying reality because of a chance encounter . dont think about it to much

its best to view it as shiva's warm up before the main event. japan tends to intentionally distort things when they add it to pop culture

You're thinking of Sup Forums, but this thread isn't even about them.

>The whole dynamic between Kaneda and Tetsuo is lost because the whole rivalry is gone from the film

>Kaneda: You wanna ride it, Tetsuo?
>I customized that bike for myself. It's too wild, you couldn't handle it.
>Yamagata: I don't see how you can ride somethin' crazy like that, man.
>Tetsuo: Hmph, I could.
>Kaneda: If you want it so bad, then steal one yourself!

Kaneda is the first one to get to Tetsuo, and flops his whole body over Tetsuo to see if he's okay. When the army is dragging Tetsuo away, Kaneda is the only one who gets up to defy the army (and gets sorely punished for this).

Later Tetsuo steals Kaneda's bike, which Kaneda reprimands him for. Tetsuo then gets into his monologue about Kaneda always saving him. Yes, show don't tell, but the movie has ample screentime showing the dynamic between Kaneda and Tetsuo which you claim is lost.

> as are the parallels between Tetsuo and Akira because the time in the science center is almost wholly cut from the film.

I don't think this is necessary in the film's context to be honest.

>The only people that liked it were people like Ebert that didn't get 2001 and thought this was the same sort of thing.

Or I love the animation and the light political touches.

THE HOLLYWOOD REMAKE WAS BREDDYGUD

DIDNT HAVE THE BUDGET FOR THE BIG FINALE THOUGH

>dont think about it to much

There's plenty to think about. Or did lines like

>The olympics are next year and the post-war period is over! How much longer are we going to keep wasting time on useless ghosts?

>But I've always thought you held a resentment, even a hatred for this city, colonel.
>The passion to build is cool, and the joy of reconstruction forgotten.

escape you?

Japan is shit so it being destroyed is good because it wipes the slate clean allowing them to start fresh again.

Really though, how come it's fine to make a thread about a western cartoon and it will stay up on Sup Forums EVEN THOUGH there's a board for it, but make a thread about an anime on Sup Forums and it will almost always get taken down

because they made a fucking board specifically for goons like you from /r/anime that hate Sup Forums
when Sup Forums starts hurting people like you and the others apes feelings then they'll be deleted from here too
