Pic related. I've tried to get into them and very few songs seem to gel with me
Bands that just don't do it for you thread?

Any of that soundcloud rap/hip hop/whatever stuff.
Just can't get into rap in general.
Listen to Koi No Yokan and Gore if you haven't. I think their older stuff has aged poorly and you kind of had to get into them as a kid, but their newer stuff is a very nice blend of (tasteful) alt-metal heaviness with more atmospheric stuff. They've certainly kept their sound fresh.
Trap and especially SC meme shit is only liked as a fashion accessory. With VERY few exceptions it has an extremely short shelf life because trends and image are more important to the genre than the quality of the music is. No one listens to Cardi B because she's a skilled artist with something to say in her lyrics. They listen because she's a hot topic due to a reality TV show meme shilled to kids by a record label. Ask a trap fan to explain why they like the music and they'll mumble something about it being "cool" and suggest that if you don't like it you're boring or don't have friends. It's no different than a new pair of shoes or trendy clothing item.
Mac Demarco. He's alright, but nothing to write home about.
...
The weird part is that post-rock is my favorite genre and I know and love all the other 1st and 2nd wave bands inside and out.
But these guys never did anything for me. They always came off as a mishmash of other bands' styles, without any power behind it. Like there will be some cool instrumental work, or a nice crescendo, but it pales in comparison to, say, Bark Psychosis's instrumentation, or Godspeed's dynamics.
It's the same pattern I see with a lot of 3rd wave bands. Pleasant enough to listen to, but nothing that really "makes" their sound.
How the fuck do you think Soundcloud rap and Cardi B are the same thing. Dumb little meme man who only wants to listen to guitar music.
Fuck, you've got it. I feel the same way about Explosions In the Sky. Very little substance, and just derivative of other styles.
All the ingredients seem right up my alley, but I just find them... uninteresting. No musical boner.
They're both style over substance garbage only popular because 16yo kids who want to feel black need a trend to latch onto for social gain.
For real kill yourself, the dude made a point and the only thing you do is sperg out like a nigger you are.
I understand the hate for EITS but never had a problem with them myself. Their clean and uplifting sound is nice to listen to, it's just that every epic-film-score-core post-rock band mobbed them even harder than they did Godspeed.
I absolutely adore Nick Cave but I've never listened to a full The Birthday Party album
He made a "point" which was more or less a LE WRONG GENERATION XD generalization. To put it in your limited vision of music it would be like someone saying Minor Threat and The Ramones have the same purpose because they're both white person music who insecure kids latch onto.
Then take a crack at explaining why I'm wrong. All praise for trap comes from its cultural relevance or the celebrity/meme status of the artists behind it, or otherwise vague shit about "bangers" or "bumpin in tha whip", since there's no concrete discussion to be had about the instrumentation since it's been reduced to a beyond-predictable formula.
Hard mode: Don't use buzzwords like wrong generation or imply I'm alt-right
He's got some chill tunes but imo you can only listen to that kind of music for so long before it's just boring
It's not a buzzword to say you're being le wrong generation it's a genuine explanation of how you can only appreciate dead forms of music because you see people listening to modern music as dependent on "cultural relevance".
You're trying to be different by imitating older people who's time has come and gone. Ironically by caring that your music is NOT culturally relevant you've made yourself more of a whore to trends than anyone who listens to radio trash.
>MUSIC IS OLD SO ITS BAD XDD
Holy shit you are a moron
Grizzly Bear. I should love that band, but I just don't. Their songs are okay at best, and Two Weeks is one of the biggest musical atrocities of the past decade.
That's the opposite of what I said you idiot. I said you're the one who cares about the time period of the music because to you
new = bad
because you probably dont know how to find new music other than listening to the radio and looking at facebook
No, you are just bad as your little le wrong gen oration buzzword.
You are a moron who champions disposable top 40 pop music that will be irrelevant 5 years from now
You are just the oppiste of that guy, you think all old music is bad because its old and not because of the quality.
Holy shit you are even worse because you think garbage dime a dozen sound cloud rappers are good
I don't think old music is bad at all retard I'm retorting him I havent said anything about what music I like
Nowhere did I suggest that it was bad because it's new/popular. It's bad because there's nothing enjoyable, creative, tasteful, or impactful about any aspect of the music. The fact that trap fans pretend popularity equates to artistic value is unrelated, I just brought it up to explain to someone that that was the reason it's so inexplicably popular.
You're assuming I'm some reddit stereotype because I dislike music you (seem to) like. You're misrepresenting my arguments as incoherent assumptions, none of which are close to right. I could tell you that the age of music has no impact on its quality (unless you're looking at it historically, but we're not) and that more great and in ovation music is coming out now than ever before, but you'd just say something about "le wrong generation"
Learn to argue or fuck off.
God they're so bland, how can anyone enjoy the musical equivalent of vanilla ice cream
NIGGERNIGGERNIGGERNIGGERAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Since when does disliking trap make you wrong generation? Are you supposed to blindly pretend to like everything that's popular?
I don't like nightcore, that doesn't mean I listen to nothing but 70s classic rock.
If this has been an aggressive shitposting session I genuinely give you props
vanilla ice cream is delicious and serves as a foundation for a variety of nice flavors
Foetus.
Its just too corny of a mix of sounds for me.
But La Villa Strangiato though
I know its personal preference but why eat vanilla when you can eat chocolate ice cream with hazelnuts?
This and Frank Zappa. I've tried to revisit a few times but it never clicks because I can't take it seriously.
Art is meant to cause a reaction in the viewer. Trap does that. It makes people want to dance/turn up, whatever. Therefore it is art. It may be low art compared to what you perceive as high art but it is art nonetheless. If you wanna look at it deeper think I see parallels between Warhol's pop art like the soup cans and Trap music.
Radiohead.
Fucking agreed. They're so god damn bland
Ive listened to a bunch of their stuff, and the only album that i even somewhat enjoy is strawberry jam. Am I a pleb?
Yes, you are a pleb
The difference is that Minor Threat and Ramones fans can describe why they like that music.
I hate it when these trap kiddies say "banger". Cultural appropriation at it's finest.
...
70/80s prog
I can appreciate the technical talent, but musically I just find it dull
Slint. It's shitty lo fi garage rock with the one of the worst and most obnoxious singers I've ever heard. Yet it's celebrated around her like some sort of artistically genius. Are we listening to the same record?
My Bloody Valentine
U2
Run The Jewels
Bon Iver
Swans
Soms mainstream artists that i can't get into, that everyone seems to be nuts about
why do people enjoy pavement? i've listened to their first two albums - slanted & enchanted was alright i guess but nothing to write home about, and crooked rain sucked.
this dude, same with Clapton and Rolling Stones, I just can't get into them
shit I forgot the picture
America needed a soyboy version of the Fall
I can get into parts of Nada and The World That Summer but everything else is terrible. His voice becomes so disgustingly monotonous and boring to listen to and the compositions get worse and worse
Fishmans
Sweet Trip
Duster
Clarence Clarity
King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard
Not even Nebraska?
youtu.be
fucking kpop.
everyone looks the same and all the music sounds marginally different.
Radiohead
I just dont get why everyone is up in arms over this band.
It's all so underwhelming.
Street Spirit is a nice song though.
I like Young Team but I couldn't seem to get into their other stuff. Especially those ballad songs they do with a very exhausting vocals
I don't even think Deftones are that good but man I love this band, only Adrenaline sucks ass but people praise it anyways.
Koi No Yokan is amazing but Gore is one of their weakest albums. Pony hasn't aged a bit.
It's not all good but the good trap is visceral. Some fans may have trouble articulating that but a surface-level enjoyment of something doesn't make that enjoyment any less legitimate. If that isn't what you want out of music then you probably won't enjoy it.
