Cool opinion
i liked buu saga up until gohan gets absorbed by super buu
it would miss goku's ss3 transformation the goat moment
buu saga was cool
powerrank : sayans on hearth>Namek>Buu>cell>everything else>GT
so what, his hair changed...
Money
The show runner actually meant for the show to end with the Cell Saga. Goku steps aside and now his son Gohan is the protector of the Earth. Perfect end.
However it was so insanely popular that the studio pressured him to keep the show going. He kept refusing so they said they'd get someone else to do it. He refused that as well and said if the show must continue it will be him. He devised the Bus Saga entirely to be as absurd and dumb as possible so the show would be cancelled. He thought that Fat Buu turning his victims to Chocolate would kill the show and making him basically a retarded kid would be the nail. in the coffin. But it just got infinitely more popular.
should have ended at frieza.
he was built up as the big bad for so long and then goku arrives, goes ssj and sacrifices himself to save an entire planet.
perfect way to end a series.
I agree. Anything past Cell Saga was not canon.
Toriyama and his greedy overlords needed the shekels though.
Super looks like absolute ass but it at least it made GT not canon officially.
If that's your opinion on Goku ss3 then you clearly don't like DBZ anyway, faggot
this. whole build up of the super sayan legend coming true and Goku, being this wonder kid since dragonball, actually being the living incarnation of it to stop this intergalactic super being with a self sacrifice. fucking perfect.
then lol any sayan can do it nvm not a legend
Toriyama is a hack
that's hilarious
watching buu saga as a kid was an interesting twist since the two main villains before were hellbent on power (frieza) and perfection (cell). buu kinda acted as a foil to both since he didnt give a shit about any of that and seemed to be pure id with a magic twist
People keep saying "X is where they should have ended. It's the perfect ending."
Pretty much every major arc in Dragonball is like that.
They could have ended after the Commander Red Saga. Goku pretty much burried the Red Ribbion Army for good then and there. All was right in the world.
Then, they could've ended after Tien Shinhan saga, because Goku returns to the Tournament scene. There was no real reason to introduce King Piccolo beyond getting yet another arc.
They could have ended at the end of Dragonball, with the conclusion of Young Piccolo, because Goku is finally grown up, he has a set place in the world, and it clearly is set up, so that we can see where his life is going to go from here. A perfect ending in its own.
So on and so forth, with Frieza being the one everyone keeps bringing up, where Goku seems to retire to go fight another day out in the cosmos, having saved Earth and the Namekians.
Dragonball is so full of endings I'm not really sure if the presence of one is really a reason to stop anymore. Not saying anything past Cell saga was great, but if Dragonball stopped at a good ending, the entirety of DBZ would never have happened.
I agree it shouldve ended with Frieza but I still enjoy the rest anyway.
Though Gohan shouldve been the one to kill Buu
Boo saga is best saga.
>The show runner actually meant for the show to end with the Cell Saga.
not true at all.
If it ended with Frieza then a shit ton of arcs and characters would've never been introduced
Its like saying Dragon Ball should've ended after Goku got all the dragonballs
DBZ was shit.
DB was far superior.
>"B-B-BUT 'MUH OVAR NAAAAIN THAUSAAAND'!"
>Gohan shoul've been the one to kill Buu
BULLLSHIT motherfucker got his chance at Cell fuck him. Vegeta should have had the Buu kill.
Its a nice way to end it, but the impact of the sacrifice is lessened because he could just be wished back with the dragon balls.
>Its like saying Dragon Ball should've ended after Goku got all the dragonballs
pantsu ending would be best ending
Ask Shonen Jump and Toei animation about it.
Dragonball and Dragonball Z are two different entities anyways. The former is based on martial arts with a logical and dumb, but fun, extension of what martial arts can be in other art forms. It still focussed on fighting, but had weird adventures and introduced a lot of different concepts.
Whereas Dragonball Z became a parody of itself, which works as well, but it was too much the same shit.
>entirely to be as absurd and dumb as possible so the show would be cancelled
Then why the hell would he put a Goku vs Vegeta fight scene in it that literally blew every other fight scene out of the water?
Problems with DBZ:
>how easily Vegeta managed to become a super saiyan when there were leagues of power separating him and Goku on Namek even before Goku transformed
>how easily Gohan turned super saiyan
>Goku being able to kill Majin Buu in SS3 form but not Kid Buu
>Gohan being able to be absorbed by Super Buu
>Piccolo being able to become more powerful than a Super Saiyan just by fusing with some weak old geezer
This is the level of delusional lying you'd expect from a Sup Forums user. Keep your lies to yourself.
DB = Fantasy/Mythology retelling, very fun
DBZ = hyper masculine combat scifi adventure, also very fun
pick your poison, senpai.
No buu saga means no majin vegeta vs goku, no vegeta self sacrifice, etc.
Buu saga is cool too.
This.
Oolong deserved to be the one to defeat Cell by explaining to him that he'll never be truly perfect, 'cause he doesn't look good in a bikini.
For the same reason why there is a Star Wars 7.
>Piccolo being able to become more powerful than a Super Saiyan just by fusing with some weak old geezer
>weak old geezer
>He hasn't seen dragonball
The geezer was Piccolo's other half, who was a super namekian. It would be weird if Piccollo didn't reach SSJ levels since he fused with god.
This just literally isn't true. There were many times Toriyama considered stopping Dragon Ball (he was, for example, going to end the series near the end of the original Dragon Ball if his editors didn't let him age Goku up), but the Buu Saga wasn't done against his will or anything like that.
ok, make it so you cant be wished back more than once. simple.
But Krillin had died twice, and so did chiatzu.
Making going to Namek pointless if the whole point was to get dragonballs to wish back guys who died several times.
Vegeta became ss since he trained for 3 years on a fucking asteroid and sperged out when muh kakarot was better than him
Besides it was hinted since the sayan saga that gohan had tremendous power inside of him. It would have given everyone blue balls if they didn't see the full potential. Should've ended with cell
That was already the case. Wasn't that the entire purpose of travelling to Namek, to get their Dragon Balls and use them since they were a blank slate for reviving people?
they didn't know about it, I think, only Dende told them.
primarily it was to get Piccolo back and earth dragonballs.
>>how easily Vegeta managed to become a super saiyan when there were leagues of power separating him and Goku on Namek even before Goku transformed
It wasn't easy, 3 years of painfully cruel training. If anything, it's the Goku training going to Namek who was unrealisticly efficient.
> Gohan
Since his first appearance, it's been established Gohan is a huge powerhouse who just need to learn how to tap into his potential. It's no surprise he could turn SS after training with the leading expert on SS.
> Kid Buu
Goku could have destroy Majin Buu HE THINKS but struggle against Kid Buu. Why ? Because Majin Buu was gimped by the destroyed mind of the Kaio Shin. Take the most powerful man in the world and give him the brain of a 3 years old and he won't be so fearsome anymore.
> Gohan being absorbed
Why not ? He was strong of course but not THAT much compare to Buu who absorbed Gotenks SS3. It's shown many times weaker magic can still works on stronger opponents (Mafuba for exemple).
> Piccolo
He's the first case of fusion and it's been clearly shown in the Buu saga how fusion is insanely more powerful than transformations.
>le should have ended at cell saga meme
>le should have ended at frieza meme
This show is the proto-infinite anime that all shonen aspire to be with their literal thousands of episodes
>the Bus Saga
DBGT
top lel pls be true
>Its like saying Dragon Ball should've ended after Goku got all the dragonballs
no it's not like that at all, DB can't end before Frieza Saga because fundamental questions aren't answered. Like who and what the hell is Goku, why is he so strong, where does kami, the protector of Earth, comes from, etc.
see
Power levels in general make no sense because they just kept growing exponentially. How am I supposed to take Frieza seriously when Buu is like 1000 times more powerful?
This
Because they were fighting freiza at the time, not buu. While your conclusion is correct, the logic you followed was extremely flawed
Somewhere in the Buu saga (or maybe it was GT) they say something to the effect of 'Imagine if they used (some sort of dragonballs I think) and Cell and Frieza came back'
How would that be a big deal if in the meantime all of the heroes became 1000 times stronger?
I think Toriyama even agreed that they fucked up and everyone should disregard power levels
that's one reason I like the Fusion Reborn movie
I think it should of ended at Cell not because he's the best, but because after that point the formula gets really stale. By the time Goku turns Super Saiyan 3 its nothing new at all, when he has to charge the spirit bomb while his friend distracts the bad guy, its nothing new. The only difference was his friend got beat twice as bad but its literally the same thing that happened with Frieza already. I cant rewatch DBZ entirely because it goes through the same beats so god damn often
>woah guys you know that super powerful dude you just fought
>well there's another MORE powerful dude above him!
First its Vegeta, then Dodoria/Zarbon, then Ginyu Force, then Frieza, then Androids, then Cell. Each time they are either waiting for Goku to come and win the fight or getting their ass beat and procrastinating. Then when its all over they have to train super hard for the next villain. It literally feels like Ginyu only damaged Goku so that they could waste a hundred episodes before he fights Frieza.
Going from Dragon Ball to DBZ, seeing this formula for the first two times with Vegeta and Frieza is pretty awesome. Not saying it should of ended there but my patience for the formula and filler was at an all time low after Cell. Making Gohan the hero kept it interesting.
>the last time Gohan was relevant
>Thinking Dragonball (not Z) needed any of that answered.
Seriously?
Should they also explain why the leader of the world is a blue dog, why there are dinosaurs, why it exists in the same universe as the creator's other series with a godlike android that is a little girl, and so on?
It's kind of like asking "Who was the first Jedi?" in Star Wars or "What is Gandalf, Sauron and so on really?" in Lord of the Rings. It's a valid question, it can be explored and there's probably a lot to gain from exploring it, but the story is entirely complete without it.
I really dont think that analogy works, its much more extreme with dragon ball compared to that. Its not just with db, a lot of anime just randomly put absurd things in and treat it like normal with no explanation. It doesn't really need explaining but without an explanation its just random. Its obviously a cultural difference but still.
SS3 was shit my nigga, real DB fans know this
goku is an entirely unique creature on earth, who possesses a tail, outstanding superhuman strength, and transforms into a great ape at full moon, there needed to be an explanation for sure. What are the dragon balls/where do they come from is also explained in the Namek Saga, which is quite relevant I think, it's the name of the series afterall.
I don't like or care about LoTR but I'd guess they must have some theory about sauro, on the lines of "embodiment of evil" or whatever.
If I had never watched DBZ but was an avid fan of DB, getting those explanations would definitely be the biggest motivation to do it, and it's pretty much all answered before Garlic Jr. saga begins.
>what are dragon balls, where do they come from
You're grasping at straws here, none of this really needed any explanation. Especially since they already shown enough dumb shit that it could be taken for granted (and was).
If DBZ never existed, one would thin that these balls have been created by god. And allow a person to do whatever he wishes to, but the journey is so long and hard that only those would earn it that dedict their entire lives to it.
>why does goku possess a tail
Yes, extraordinary even in this world. But believable nonetheless as we have 20,000 aliens and creatures and all that shit.
Explanation was only partially necessary, it's just standard procedure as it's a world where anything could happen and not much has an explanation. Thus, the world itself is built around that and worked just fine.
>where does piccolo come from
He was referred to as The Demon King or so, so it seemed obvious he was just a demon at that point. Before it became sci-fi.
The cell saga got pretty retarded at the end though
>not only did my suicide attack not kill me but it also randomly allowed me to regain my perfect form and acquire Goku's abilities without absorbing him
They don't even bother to explain it. Its a great arc but it really should have ended before that point.
>The cell saga got pretty retarded at the end though
You mean at the part where those two teenager human cyborgs somehow managed to be more powerful not only the alien emperor last arc but also Super Saiyans appeared.
I meant above the typical DBZ retardation.
>The geezer was Piccolo's other half, who was a super namekian. It would be weird if Piccollo didn't reach SSJ levels since he fused with god.
No, the being that split into King Piccolo and Kami was a Super Namekian.
Kami wasn't a god, just an old Namek and Earth's guardian. King Piccolo was the embodiment of evil in Kami's soul that he split off before assuming the role of Earth's guardian.
"Piccolo" is actually Piccolo Jr, some egg that King Piccolo barfed out before he died.
This is not true. There was never any planned end for the series until it ended.
This rumour is spread around everywhere but it is nonsense.
That shit about Cell surviving was explained though, right after he reappeared.
His nucleus or some shit survived the explosion which allowed him to reform, as well as giving him a Zenkai boost, he also somehow "remembered" his perfect form. Taking the Instant Transmission was pure shit though.
It was explained, just a bullshit moment though.
17 and 18 being more powerful than Freeza and Super Saiyans wasn't explained and it was pure power creep garbage in a badly written saga Toriyama had "little" control over.
I agree
Cell was the best DBZ villain and the logical conclusion to the series.
They don't explain how he regained his perfect form or the instant transmission though. And the nucleus was a shitty deus ex machina that cell didn't even know about.
>nobody ever talks about Tien tri beaming the fuck out of cell
youtube.com
...
>Super Saiyan God is the pinnacle of Saiyan power
>Everyone and their mother can beat it out or match it with no real training
really wish they would have.
fucking money grubbers
Should've ended with Mystic Gotham BTFOing Super Boo
This is objectively the only correct answer.
Why didn't Goku or one of the Kai's go back to Earth once it had been wished back and bring Gohan to the Planet of the Kai's?
Would have been no need for the beat down Goku and Vegeta were getting with Gohan being ridiculously more powerful than all of them by that point.
>trunks somehow has managed to achieve the power of a super saiyan god super saiyan kaioken x10 by just being a regular super saiyan 2
>Nucleus was a shitty deus ex machina
It was explained that he could regrow himself from a single cell
The clue was in his name since the first fucking moment, and he even displayed with Vegeta how effortlessly he can regrow parts of himself.
You can't get further from deus ex machina than that.
implying vegeta going sudoku trying to kill the pink blob wasn't based
Same reason Krillin never cut people in half after blinding them, despite everyone up until Cell being susceptible to it.
Because the fans are retarded children.
>and then learned how to use the "Spirit Bomb Sword" technique in the middle of battle
I swear, Zamasu is easily in the top 5 Dragonball villains, but they really ruined the end of that fight.
I understand the story reasons behind Trunks being the one to defeat him, but the sheer amount of asspull that it took to get there was just too much
Don't talk that way to Babidi fucker
There'e literally a book that explain all those LOTR questions you fucking retard.
But you can read and enjoy LOTR just fine without it, which was his point.
>Missing the point this hard
The point for those following along at home, was that you don't need to know all that to get the full picture of what the Lord of the Rings trilogy itself is about.
There's also both Star Wars Legends and Canon stuff dealing with the first Jedi, doesn't mean you can't get all you need out of the originals.
remember when gohan was suppose the little shit to surpass everyone
Can't have Gohan save the day again when everyone is circlejerking over Goku
Cell/Android saga was the worst. Saiyan was the best- tautly written and used all of its characters and plot elements well. Namek was a nice adventure with iconic moments and nice themes- a fitting conclusion to the series. Buu saga was fun in a camp way. Cell saga was just sloppily written with characters all acting dumb and filled with plotholes.
>I don't have further interest in a story I like
whatever man, there might be people that want to know why something that apparently is similar, is dramatically different to the rest
Cut back on the projecting, dipshit. I've read the Silmarillion. There are also millions of people who haven't and enjoyed LOTR regardless. Are you incapable of understanding this?
>Room to expand and explore = the story is incomplete
You know how the entire point of the Mono-myth/Hero's Journey is that it's a cycle?
You don't need to see every cycle since the beginning of time to enjoy it either.
Would Buu have been better if instead of Goku and Vegeta throwing down with Kid Buu it was Gohan who saved the day? I feel like he was built up to a top tier badass then got the shaft for some raisin
Majin Vegeta finally redeeming himself and sacrificing his life to get the Buu kill would've been a good ending to the series.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand that your opinion
Gohan going from how he was at the beginning of the saga and then getting his groove back and saving the day would be a good story, but how they did it with the elder kai just giving him power and then him actually finishing Buu would have been a shit tier ending.
Underrated post
This. With how bad Super is and how bad the series dropped off after the main editor left, really exposed him. The story of how the main villains were actually going to the the old man and clown androids until his old editor made fun of his designs really puts things in perspective. Toriyama is the Lucas of manga. Without a team to filter his shit ideas and clean up his writing, he's nothing.
