One-hit wonder

they are trash

A band.

Which hit?

why

Wonderwall

The first two albums are great, everything else is very hit and miss with mostly misses, Noels solo career is above average imao.

How does Noel have a solo career if he doesn't write any music or play any instruments?

The last true rockstars, some would say. Their first two albums are masterpieces, especially the second one. The third one is really good but could've been a couple of songs shorter. Their fourth is also very good but are more of a roller coaster in terms of song quality. I've barely listened to the other albums because Britpop died in the late 90's

What's the American band most similar to Oasis?

You've got Noel confused for Liam.

The last time when the biggest band on the planet was also the best band on the planet.

Do you mean similar as in sound or popularity?

Fucking biblical night as you were LG x

A bunch of arrogant pricks who were decent at writing pop rock songs.

They wanted to sound like The Beatles while acting like The kinks.

You mean in sound? I don't think there are any. I mean, Oasis had an essential British sound, just like the Britpop movement as whole. The US had Grunge and Alternative Rock while Britain had Britpop.

Sound/attitude.

potato

Slide Away is such an awesome song. It reminds me of sitting in a car in the mid-autumn when the leafs have just begun to change colours, driving on a lonely road for hours.

>first two albums are classics
>b-sides are better than 98% of other bands’ a-sides
>absolutely top-tier bantzmen

It really is an incredible song.

How do they have so many good b-sides, and why didn't they make it onto albums?

You are correct that they have absolutely killer b-sides.

liam sounds like shit on slide away

If they put this out as an A-side single it would have probably become one of their most popular songs.

they suck

then they hit a wall

lol he totally ripped off supersonic in the beginning

the american anologue (in being the last rockstars) would be pearl jam or some other grunge band

Grunge fucking sucks though.

yep

Noel was just a writing machine back then and didn’t think the well would dry up. Of course it did eventually but that was quite the run.

some Godly material. youtube.com/watch?v=Tiqxn3iOmxY

Noel should have written for Morrissey.

they arent good
/thread

Catfish and the Bottlemen seem like a new Oasis.

Insufferable cocksuckers (Liam anyway) that managed to revive the delusion that Manchester is relevant

nme.com/news/music/noel-gallagher-says-hates-brian-wilson-calls-overrated-2166577

they say that Noel had a couple of notebooks of songs written before they even got famous

>“Fuckin’ hell—I hate Brian Wilson! And you know what? If there’s a more overrated person in the music business than me, it’s that guy.”
>Elsewhere in the same interview, Noel slammed Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, saying: “Fuck Jeremy Corbyn. He’s a Communist.”

This fucking guy.

no you're a faggot and your opinion is discarded.

His argument is also horseshit since he asserted that Brian was just a Beatles ripoff when everyone musically literate knows that Sgt. Pepper's was an attempt to equal Pet Sounds (you can find quotes from George Martin, Paul, and John referencing this several times). Even his early ostensibly straight surf stuff was more complex than what you typically saw during that time

Grunge is the perfect fag filter. I automatically know that someone is a fag if they like grunge. Thanks.

>in other news, Salieri rants angrily about how Mozart is "okay"

Oasis is a fucking fantastic band. Besides their first two albums, their true best is The Masterplan b-sides compilation. For a few short years they could do no wrong. Then they fell too hard on cocaine and fucked up recording their third album. Half the band quit and Noel became bitter, writing their dark and angry fourth album at the turn of the century. The party had ended, but they kept going on. Noel never really lost his talent, and Liam's vocals kept up in the studio, but they made the grave mistake of becoming a democracy. Noel let the rest of the band write half the songs and their albums suffered. But Noel's a true artist who knows his style and does it perfecty. He doesn't deviate much, but he's like an artist doing a series on the same muse. Check out this new track, another take on Wonderwall, yet just as good:

My favorite song of all time. It's a preview of Morning Glory's sound, but still has the rawness of their first album.

My Chemical Romance? There's no close comparison.

As far as Liam & Noel go, they are practically the last white male musicians who can say/do anything they want and actually get away with it. They're an entertaining foil to p4k-endorsed, "I get my politics from twitter & buzzfeed" industry plants.

2 words. Fucking mega.

Biblical.

Can't be My Chemical Romance, can it?

Kings of Leon is probably closer.

>kings of Leon
That's pretty accurate, both band made two decent albums then shit the bed.

Kings of Leon have a better post-peak career than Oasis though, by a lot. Their post-peak stuff is actually pretty good.

Cheap Trick or Nirvana

Guns N Roses
Motley Crue

???

I mean, The Beatles weren't far behind musically.

Entry level rock, see also: Nirvana, Green Day, RHCP, Foo Fighters, Arctic Monkeys.

Great first three albums (Be Here Now is good), everything after is hit and miss with the occasional brilliant song like Go Let It Out and The Turning.

Overall though, from that era of British rock, the Manics, Radiohead, Blur and Pulp were all miles superior. They never released an album in the same stratosphere as OK Computer, The Holy Bible or This Is Hardcore.

Oasis = Nirvana
Blur = Pearl Jam
The Stone Roses = Pixies

I'll also add that the Manics = Smashing Pumpkins, both the true patrician choice of 90s bands from their respective countries.

>the best band on the planet

Oasis weren't even the best band in Northern England in their prime.

Catfish and the Bottlemen are more like a new Viva Brother.

Then who was?

I noticed you said Blur were 'superior' then didn't mention a Blur album. Even Damon thinks half their albums are dog shit

Radiohead is the shittiest meme band ever.

>I thought you was a geezah
>You look like a gay boys arse

more like whomst'd've was ;)

psst your try-hard is showing

I listened to their albums for the first today it was trash

how is he so good lookin?

>the stone roses = pixies
Supergrass = Pixies

Oasis is clearly the last great rock band to reach the popularity they had with a truly authentic quality of their song writing. They relied very little on effects or industry tricks and decided to just be loud and proud. The brothers as frontmen played the last great role of british rock stars (or of any nationality for that matter). Before someone like Kanye West could come around and shake up the pop culture, Oasis was there. I actually think they have a ton of good tunes after their 90s era...the albums were just lacking in general, and Liam's voice didn't age gracefully.

This year it seems both the brothers got back on their shit and put out some of the best rock records this year. Liam took back his voice and was able to get some kick ass songs together and Noel finally experimented on his sound for once. I'm a proud fan of theirs and I hope the love for Oasis continues. There's few bands these days that can write a chorus half as anthemic as Don't Look Back in Anger, Champagne Supernova, Live Forever, etc. Everyone here should watch Supersonic because that documentary really captures the spirit of the band in their prime.

fucking this

To reiterate yes, Definitely Maybe, (What's The Story) Morning Glory and The Masterplan are absolutely genius. They became dinosaurs but imagine if they'd have quit after the Be Here Now tour. Legends.

You could actually make a decent album from all the 2000s Oasis songs
