1. 40 Below Summer
2. Reveille
3. Early Incubus
4. Primer 55
5. Korn

I like KoRn. That's about it. Where there other good acts in the genre? I kinda wished that KoRn had incorporated more rapping etc into their music, even though Jon does the adidas tracksuits when it comes down to it they made not too complicated rock n roll.

Deftones bitch
LP's first two

I like that song by that band with the downtuned riffs from 7 string guitar, singer was diddled as a kid and he raps about how dysfunctional he is...

Who the fuck's idea was that first cover shits gross

Deftones
Rage Against the Machine
Korn
Limp Bizkit
First three Incubus Albums

is this the first nu-metal song Sup Forums?

If KoRn's lyrics weren't so terrible, I'd probably still listen to Issues and Untouchables.

Nu metal is garbage you fucking normie asshole, it's just rap music with edgy vocals and guitars, get the fuck out of this genre of music, your music is a fucking joke you asshole.

one of my favourite nu-metal jams

There was that one KoRn song where he was in a rap battle with Fred Durst. It was aids. I'm glad he didn't do it more. If you want more slow, crunchy Nu-Metal like KoRn, check out Seeded Crown - Please Remain Seeded

Funny, I was just in an argument in another thread today about how Rage Against the Machine isn't really Nu-Metal. He was saying they were Rap Metal, which is different, because they didn't have turntables, and slightly different guitar work. Sounded like dumbassery to me.

Shit, Chevelle counts as Nu-Metal? Wikipedia seems to agree with you. Interesting.

lmao your last two (you)s were me
I don't know if RATM or Chevelle count as Nu-metal, your criteria seems to be rock guitars and turntables but I would've said nu-metal was whatever was hip when the Matrix came out. but for real though just alternative rock in the late 90s maybe, I don't know anything btw

I thought that Nu-Metal was metal with hip-hop or funk influences of any kind, but System of a Down, Slipknot, and Chevelle all seem to be classified as Nu-Metal, and I don't hear any rapping, turntables, funk instrumentation, or hip-hop beats. So I guess I don't know anything either.

Link to the thread? And he does have a point; Nu Metal was much more experimental in nature because it fused multiple elements of other genres, like Electronic and Hip Hop, into traditional Rock and Metal. RATM doesn't have that sort of experimental quirk in their music; it's just straightforward Rap Metal.

Slipknot's self titled is most definitely Nu-Metal, I think we can agree on that

I remember buying a magazine praising Kittie as the queens of nu-metal and again no turntables. there's a few bands I'd say are but the web is too loose. Just call whatever death grips fans today would listen to in the 2000's nu metal and you're ok

1. Slipknot - Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat
2. Slipknot - s/t
3. Slipknot - Iowa
4. Korn - s/t
5. Mudvayne - L.D. 50

>I thought that Nu-Metal was metal with hip-hop or funk influences of any kind, but System of a Down, Slipknot, and Chevelle all seem to be classified as Nu-Metal, and I don't hear any rapping, turntables, funk instrumentation, or hip-hop beats.
Slipknot is borderline Nu Metal, System of a Down is just plain Alternative Metal, and Chevelle isn't even Metal; they're fucking Post-Grunge buttrock.

I guess that's a better way of phrasing his point. As for finding the thread, no idea. Sorry.
Yeah, Slipknot's self titled is definitely Nu-Metal, but I don't particularly think Iowa or beyond really qualifies, at least as far as I know.

As for the turntables, I don't think you NEED them to be a Nu-Metal band. KoRn doesn't have them either. Most Nu-Metal bands don't in fact, but it's one of the many qualities that could classify something as Nu-Metal, along with rapping, downtuned guitar riffs, bass heavy mixing, etc.

That's what I personally always thought, but Wikipedia, and a seemingly vocal crowd on Sup Forums seem to disagree with that.

how is this not nu-metal then bros by your standards

The guy I was talking to said the riffs were more reminiscent of Nirvana and such than the music that later influenced Nu-Metal, but now that I think about it, I don't agree with that. This sounds plenty funky to me.

Also, Wikipedia cites grunge as an influence of Nu-Metal anyway.

sepultra

limp bizkit's first two albums

system of a down

deftones

and also a lot of proto nu metal like faith no more, nine inch nails, and primus are pretty great

what about debut to follow the leader?

Debut was good, Follow the leader was MOSTLY good (I still get 'nam flashbacks to All in the Family), but Life is Peachy was pretty awful, lyrically. I'd also argue Issues, and maybe even Take a Look in the Mirror aren't that bad.

I like Issues alot but its very much a pop album and not to be taken seriously

You really think so? I mean, it's a lot less raw, and aggressive, but it's also a lot darker, and spookier. I don't really think of it as a "poppier" album exactly.

I've always had a really soft spot for Life is Peachy. In terms of overall mood, it's actually one of the most fascinating records I've heard.
I mean, It has spooky stuff like Lost and Mr. Rogers which are about as dark as the genre ever got, mixed in with attempts at doing "quirky" metal in the vein of Faith No More on Twist, Kunt, Wicked, Lowrider, Adidas, Ass Itch and Porno Creep (although those songs themselves still have an ominous aura to them).

1. Deftones
2. Chevelle
3. Limp Bizkit
4. ???
5. IDK I listened to some KoRn back in the Napster days?

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_Wilson
they even have a band member for turntables

>Slipknot [...] seem to be classified as Nu-Metal, and I don't hear any rapping, turntables, funk instrumentation, or hip-hop beats.

All In The Family is a guilty pleasure of mine

KoRn's lyrics aren't worse than the average metal band.

1. Saliva
2. Static-X
3. Korn
4. System of a Down
5. Rage Against the Machine

I miss the early 00s ;_;

1. Deftones
2. Incubus
3. Korn

I like bands like Disturbed and Linkin Park but I don't consider them good nu metal.

Can we please make /numetal/ a thing?

Also, it seems we can never agree if SOAD is nu metal or not.

How Korn could be so special and unique band and kinda cringy at the same time?

YOU THINK YOU'RE SPECIAL

Lucifer speaks the truth.

entry level nu metal taste in this thread mostly

AmneZia
Dee_Waste

Being an underground nu metal aficionado. I've definitely heard that band name before but for what ever reason I've never bothered checking them out
