In 1991 the spirit of the eighties died. T2 hopped on the 80. bandwagon as the last. Then came all the shit, what was called the 90.'s spirit, which was generally bad for sci-fi cinema except "The Matrix" but this movie is ingenious commentary on post-cold-war society.

Cameron was just showing support for his buddy Arnold. That and because the genesys story was actually alright, how it played with expectations of the original timelines. The movie's execution was pathetic though, and Khaleesi Conner was unforgivable.
