in the canon, green goblin is Norman Osborne, then later his son Harry takes up the role as vengeance for his father's death. Years laters, Mary Jane is going to marry Harry but he goes nuts over spiderman = peter parker. I think in some comic universes harry is alive but green goblin is dead very early in spiderman's career, before electro (shocker), doctor octopus, sandman and venom.
