Yknowha-imean?

Over exaggerating there m8, you can't really have a cult based around accepting something doesn't exist.

generations of hapless Philosophy 101 students have come to think that philosophy is fundamentally about wondering whether the table in front of you really exists. And this sort of radical skepticism about the mind’s capacity to know the world outside it really does become a serious theoretical problem when one takes the standard modern philosophical assumptions for granted. Of course, few people are inclined to take such skeptical doubts seriously in practical life. But many people are inclined to take seriously the relativist view that all belief systems are “socially constructed” and that none of them represents reality more accurately than any other. This view too rests on the modern assumption that knowledge involves a system of “representations” which can in principle float entirely free of the reality they purportedly represent. The difference between the man who thinks he can’t know whether the table in front of him really exists and the man ”who thinks that science is no more objectively true than voodoo, is just that the first man is considering the possibility that the “representations” in his own individual mind might not match up to reality, and the second is considering the possibility that the “representations” which comprise a complex belief system shared by many minds might not match up to reality. Relativism is thus on all fours with skepticism about our ability to know whether tables, chairs, etc., are real. Defenders of science rightly condemn relativism, but few of them realize that the modern philosophical assumptions they are themselves typically committed to, and in terms of which they interpret the results of empirical science, are precisely what lead to skepticism and relativism in the first place.

I don't like the dramatisation in yank documentary narration to be honest. Also yank narration sounds inherently less intelligent than British narration.

this time a final one

we need to reduce the budget to reduce the deficit, but cutting the NHS is not the best way to do this

the electorate don't know what they want nor what's best for them

I guess believing in God isn't too stupid in itself but you've gotta be retarded to believe one particular set of mental stories written by some dickheads in the desert thousands of years ago.

The standard one-line summary of the Enlightenment goes like this: Because religion is based on blind faith, the founders of modern Western thought sought to free science and philosophy from its irrational embrace, to reduce or eliminate its influence on public life, and to re-orient even private life toward improving this world rather than preparing for an illusory afterlife. As we have seen, this has things almost precisely backwards. In fact the moderns didn’t reject religion for resting on blind faith; it would be truer to say that they falsely accused it of resting on blind faith so that they could justify their rejection of it, and cooked up a new conception of what should count as “rational” in the hope of making the accusation stick. More precisely, their desire to re-orient human life toward this world and reduce the influence of religion led the early modern thinkers to abandon traditional philosophical categories and to redefine scientific method so that reason could no longer provide religion with the support it had always been understood to give it, at least not in any robust way. The groundwork for some of this was inadvertently laid by medieval thinkers ”like Ockham and by the Protestant Reformation; and some early modern thinkers were less hostile to religion than others, and even wanted to preserve core elements of it. But the philosophical assumptions the modern thinkers all came to hold in common, and in particular their hostility to the key metaphysical doctrines of classical philosophy in general and Aristotelianism in particular, had an inherent tendency to undermine the traditional philosophical case for the existence of God, the immortality of the soul, and the natural law.

is there anything that angers the brainlet more than moral relativism?

why do people love facts and logic but hate reason

>I was wrong all along
Glad you could admit it

Things such as: Traveling, cooking (professionally and as a hobby), books, films and series, music, gigs and some festivals. The woods and busy city streets. Cuddles. Intense conversations about art. Learning; knowledge in general. Stargazing. Things and people that make my skin crawl -- in a good way.

If intersectional feminism isn't something that you agree with or consider important or if the mere mention of the phrase makes you bubble up with "buts" please move along, we're probably not going to get on very well.

I'm looking for people to do stuff with, since I am somewhat in flux at the moment and not knowing how my living situation will play out in the next few months. .

"Do stuff with" means hanging out and being friendly and whatever activities people who first meet do. It means I'm not meeting people to necessarily have sex with them, but to make acquaintances. If something carnal develops, amazing! But I won't push it, and neither should you.

Anyway, I really don't know what else to write and most of this feels more like a warning than a self summary, so if you think of something that you want to know about me you know what to do.

business idea:

the contemporary secularist is like some paranoid autodidact who has just read Descartes’s Meditations and seriously wonders whether he is dreaming right now, or trapped in The Matrix like Keanu Reeves. The man with traditional moral and religious beliefs, by contrast, is like the average person who finds such far-fetched doubts preposterous and not worth taking seriously, whether or not he has any answer to the skeptic who challenges him. Such a man, who continues to believe what his senses tell him even if he has no fancy reason for doing so, is sane; and the man who seriously doubts his senses, on the basis of what he takes to be solid rational arguments, is insane, despite his superficial rationalism.

someone send this to them on twitter to see their reaction cheers x

facts and logic are based on faith, faith that the reason of the community is accurate and aligns with yours (or is superior to your own ability to reason)

afraid labour is far more about the disgusting pig faces than stances
they'll never hold up to something like this

link its profile please

if everyone was a moral relativist, humans would end up killing each other. it is the pathway to violent nihilism.

your "2 smart 4 u!" ponderings are all well and good when only 5% of the population thinks that way, but if 50% of the population thought the same way, there'd be blood on the streets

Why are all these popular, outgoing and good looking yanks suddenly pretending to like anime and nerd shit.

Wanna go back to when it was a fat, socially awkward, autists only hobby.

stop being irritating

HATE white people

it really is simple as

Proof itself, of any sort, is impossible, without an axiom (as Godel proved). Thus faith in God is a prerequisite for all proof.
