You take that shit back. Sure, poetry today, as evidenced by that "slam poetry" video, is crap, but are you going to tell me that the Romantic poets, and ESPECIALLY the Modernist poets, were crap? Eliot;s and Pound's poems were full of historical and literary allusions, all in an attempt to preserve white culture from, you guessed it, Jews and minorities. The whole thing went to crap in the 1950's after WWII when it became "confessional" and we got Sylvia Plath and other confessional poetry.
The whole Postmodern movement.for this "muh feelings" shit. We had the Romantic poets express their own personal feelings in an ingenious fashion, but now simply shitting on a paper (figurative of course, literally doing so would be "high postmodern art") about how the world around you is shit is now poetry. No form, no meter, no effort, just relentless narcissism and disregard for not just the canon but the whole fucking world around them.
