Can someone school me on midi controllers? I just got a boss gt100 and would like to do some synth stuff. Do I just need a computer program or do I also need one of the Roland midi pickups?

The Sun has fallen out of orbit and is on a direct course to collide with Earth.
Thankfully you have an underground bunker you can stay in for 3 or 4 months until it all blows over. You can bring one guitar, one amplifier, and one pedal with you. Assume you have an infinite supply of other accoutrements you may need.
What are your choices?

Teles look so fucking simple they almost look DIY. Which I guess the originals were, so that makes sense. But it literally looks like you gave a decently skilled kid a "build a guitar" electronics kit, a neck, and a 16"×16" blank of wood.

I'm a sucker for trans blue on quilted maple, and I'm onto satin finishes as of late. Pic related.
Either Schecter C-1 FR SLS Elite or Ibanez MSM1, Mesa Mark Five:35 and Axe-8.
Post your favorite pick. Well I only use these because my dad did and I have about 1000 of them

It's difficult to alternate pick when palm-muting with medium-thickness picks. Am I doing something wrong?
Ethan Roberts
Anybody know what guitar this is? It's for sale in my area for like 15 bucks

Yeah, I better go for it. Only obstackle is that I don't have a car, so I'll have to take the bus or get someone to drive me

the pink, think ones where my first picks. i remember them feeling like cheap plastic and slipping out of your hands like soap.
John Scott
The thing is that it's easier to do with thin and flexible, because they just bend when touching the strings. When I strum I leave a lot of tip exposed, it's more natural for my wrist. And when switching to alternate palm-muting I have to adjust my pick grip, and that's the problem. Usually during songs there is no time for that.
Joseph Wright
Not that I tried many of them.

ANYBODY RECOGNIZE THE LOGO ON THE HUMBUCKER?
Tyler Rodriguez
For Electric guitars: Quilted Maple in Gray, White or Red - Blue/Turquoise looks nice, too, but i can't imagine putting it anywhere due to it's contrast with wooden/black furniture. Otherwise a simple black finish always works for me.
For Acoustic ones: Not really a preference here, but i think a top made from mango-wood would look quite nice (at least if my ukulele is any indicator).
> The Sun has fallen out of orbit what orbit? The one around the center of the galaxy? Well, regardless...
Guitar: Ibanez RG9QM Amp: Kemper Profiling Amp Pedal: None. If i decided on one, i would miss the others for the rest of my time...

How do I know if a song I'm transcribing is in minor or its relative major (or vice versa)?
John Ross
well i suppose it's a matter of style or preference but thick picks do it quite well. also changing the grip on a pick should be quite fast. are you new?
Landon Kelly
Yeah, I'm new. I thought guitariats don't change their pick grip when switching from strumming to palm-muting. The biggest problem is palm-muted upstroke.
Dominic Reed
A bitch to find in Europe at a reasonable price, so I usually use the regular Ultex Jazz III XL.
Logan Richardson
the reason i'm suggesting a thicker pick is because flexible picks actually aren't that great. they're good for strumming but when there is more resistance from the strings they lose attack and waiting them to return to flat is kinda slow. but if you could leave less tip exposed the pick would come harder and you could switch from a "harder" pick to a light one
Adam Mitchell
1) Use your ears and sing it, that helps. That's by far the most effective way. 2) Use your eyes and check for cadences. 3) Check for markers of the minor mode, like augmented 6ths and sensitive notes.
Jayden Flores
Come on, guys. Help a brother out. Can't find out what guitar this is
Ian Murphy
I need some help Sup Forums. I've been playing guitar for a few months but not gotten into any theory at all, so I thought that I would start now.
I realize what makes up a C-chord for example is C, E and G. I know that because there are two steps between C and E, and one and a half step between E and G that makes it a major chord. It you reverse it and between the first note and the second theres one and a half step, and between the second and third theres 2 steps its a minor chord. But the question is: If I didnt know how to play a C-chord and wanted to learn how using that "method", how do I know which string to play each note on?
I dont know how retarded I sound at this point but there are several different C, E and G notes, so how do I know which ones to place my fingers on? For example I tried to apply this to a C major but when actually playing a C you're placing your third finger on a C-note, not a G. So its C, E, C instead of C, E, G like its "supposed" to be. How come? I really don't understand this shit.
Carson Phillips
I'll give it a shot. Thanks.
Blake Thompson
>so how do I know which ones to place my fingers on? Any. Without going too deep into inversions, even if you play E, G, C or G, C, E or C,G,C,G,E,C or whatever order of notes or number of Cs, Es and Gs, you'd still have a C Major chord.
But realistically you'd lean the CAGED system or similar and would know all your basic Major chord positions instead of trying to guess what goes where. Guitar is cool with that: you learn one chord shape and you instantly know twelve chords.
Not him, but hold your pick and an angle instead of hitting the string flat. It's easier to relax your wrist with a hard pick to strum than making a flexy pick behave correctly when picking fast.
Bentley Russell
German made probably, well worth the $15 dude
David Rodriguez
>C,G,C,G,E,C Welp, the bar shape on the 8th fret would actually be C, G, C, E, G and C but whatever.
William Moore
I think it's a Framus, they use that style of headstock
Carter Richardson
Yeah, I strum with a relaxed wrist with the pick being at an angle with a lot of tip exposed. However, I can only get good palm-muted sound when the pick is athwart to the strings with less pick exposed. At the moment I don't know how to do the grip switch quickly enough. Or maybe I should cgangw the grip while palm-muting.
Gabriel Taylor
Alright thank you man. I'll check out the CAGED system
Ryan Rivera
change the grip while palm-muting*
Colton Torres
Really looks like it might be a Framus, yeah. I'm really confused about the humbucker though. At first I thought it was a vintage Gibson logo, but now I'm just confused over it
Grayson Torres
I'd consider stumming with less pick exposed instead. Go for simplicity instead of trying to make two different grips work.
Mind that all shapes aren't good to play chords with (like the G Major shape), it's just a reference point that can be used for improvising for example (especially in pentatonic but I digress). When it comes to harmony and theory of course you need to know how the chords are made, what's in there and all that shit. When applying that knowledge on the guitar, it's easier to know where the intervals are. For example, if you play any note on any string aside from the G and fret a note on the string below but one fret lower (like 3rd fret A and 2nd fret D), you have a Major 3rd. It's easier to remember that on the guitar rather than going through every instance of a single note there is.
Josiah Murphy
Yeah I've never seen that type of pickup and i've seen a shit load of old german archtops. It's not even in this database. Could also be a Hoyer or Hopf. Either way definitely worth picking up.
If I'm not using Jazz IIIs I'm using these. They're just perfect for me

Newfag guitarist here Are Audio Interface necessary If I want to use PC as Modeling Amp? or should I spend that money on Physical Amp instead?
Christian Martin
i just tabbed out a song by ear for the first time :)

Depends how much money you have and your will to tweak. I find that for very low amounts of money that a load of free amp sims sound better than the destitute amps for beginners, but then you need to know how to set them up and put good IRs in them and all that shit. So I wouldn't necessarily recommend them to beginners but just to poorfags.
>Are Audio Interface necessary If I want to use PC as Modeling Amp? Yes, absolutely.
>or should I spend that money on Physical Amp instead? If you're a beginner, something like a Boss Katana would give you many options without being overwhelming. And there's no beating the feeling of an amp in the room too.

Statocaster, E.Casino, or should I try and Ibanez?
I know that Ibanez seems to be used a lot in modern metal, but I hardly see it used elsewhere
I sold most of my physical equipment to just use software... i sold a mesaboogie head i couldnt really use for $700 and bought some $200 software that works amazingly for recording lol
so it depends on if youre gigging or just recording
Nolan Walker
maybe it's upside down tuning
Luis Gonzalez
Ibanez does more classic guitars too, but there's not much if anything in common between an Epi Casino, a Strat and say, an Ibanez Talman. Doesn't sound the same, deosn't feel the same, doesn't play the same. I suggest trying.
I honestly would go for the amp. Setting up an interface and IRs and that shit isn't worth the aggravation if you're just starting.
Luis Lopez
of course

Find a decent low wattage tube amp, a Laney Cub, or a Vox AC or something comparable, sims can't compare unless you're spending 1k+ on a on Line 6 Helix, or 2k+ on a Fractal or Kemper. The sound and feel is totally different. If you can't afford it right off start saving, learn as much as you can and use the sims. But don't rely on them, get a real amp. Don't get memed, do some research outside this shithole.
Jacob Stewart
A good natural grain with a nitro finish on an electric guitar is godly to me

I heartily recommend the Laney Cub 12R. Tube amps are just flat out better than modeling amps. With that said, I used modeling amps for years so I had a good frame of reference to know just why tube sounds so nice.
Jayden Nelson
>even asking kek
Nathaniel Harris
You're saying that like it's obvious what brand it is, when it's from, what humbucker is in the bridge etc.
Angel Young
tbf fender super champs are hybrids and they sound better than most 10" tube combos

Guitarists get shit on by real musicians because we play finger patterns and can't read notes. How can I defend against this criticism?
Dominic Phillips

Is Samboras Les Paul bigger?
Caleb Lopez
>can't read notes that depends entirely on the guitarist, but guitar really is probably one of the easiest instruments to pick up without learning to read notes, since we can rely on tabs
>we play finger patterns every instrument has patterns lol it's down to the player to break away from them rather than obviously be dependent on them
Liam Roberts
learn a different instrument or learn how to read sheet music and music theory lol
Evan Campbell
The finish is nicer
Connor Brown
>How can I defend against this criticism? You don't. Being able to read a sheet is great knowledge; sight-reading for guitar is a pain in the ass. It's not like there aren't any patters for other instruments those hypocrites.
Connor Brown
Does anyone have any experience with Puresalem guitars? Are they good quality?
Andrew Peterson
don't buy a guitar that you can't play before just don't
Aaron Martinez
not true at all... guitar is easily accessible and affordable... it's also portable. it has to be the most widely played instrument (just guessing)... the basis of it is not classical any more and there is very little training / lessons that people are exposed to...
it's more about the culture of guitar that gets shit on on the guitarist themselves, there's far too many amazing guitarist that get a ton of praise...
but reading sheet music is important but impractical for guitar (mostly) but I would highly recommend learning music theory
i started a discord for theory and instrument chatting if anyone is interested
The pattern criticism is probably due to the fact the guitarists think in terms of shapes and rely more on their eyes rather than their ears.
Nathaniel Sanders
overpriced chinkshit. At that price just buy a Fender
Isaac Robinson
say that to this user lol
