Our country is actually pretty fucked. In the North Island, Taupo could blow literally any day. It's eruption schedule is unpredictable and we have had a long period of no eruptions compared to past activity. (pic related)

In the South Island, that long mountain range is the Alpine Fault which produces massive earthquakes on a regular 300 year basis give or take a couple decades. It's been just over 300 years since the last rupture, meaning the South Island getting fucked in our life time is almost certain.

oh no

bump

If it any consolation, Yellowstone is overdue for an eruption which will result in the destruction of most life on earth as we know it.

>The Hatepe eruption, named for the Hatepe Plinian pumice tephra layer,[1] sometimes referred to as the Taupo eruption and dated to around 180 AD, was Lake Taupo's most recent major eruption. It is considered New Zealand's largest eruption during the last 20,000 years. The eruption ejected some 120 km3 (29 cu mi), a VEI 7 eruption,[2] of which 30 km3 (7.2 cu mi) was ejected in the space of a few minutes. This makes it one of the most violent eruptions in the last 5000 years, comparable to the Minoan eruption in the 2nd millennium BC, the Tianchi eruption of Baekdu around 1000 AD and the 1815 eruption of Tambora. The resulting ash turned the sky red over Rome and China.[3]

well fug

based on this WE NEED TO WELCOME KIWI REFUGEES preparing for another eruption

Boom boom island lol

it's not even that bad lmao like it's just a big lake what's the problem lol
