Overrated film for hipsters

The Master

Wrong

both of you are wrong, but hey, just wait for the next marvel movie to come out, that's a bit more up your alley

>Her

You just know when you read the title.

damage control

...

When is 8 and 1/2 ever discussed amongst hipsters?

I can't remember the last time it was mentioned here.

I loved the harem daydream sequence, but the rest of movie was garbage

I am what people would call a pretentious 2deep4u art house faggot, but 81/2 was fucking insufferable self-wankery. Fellini and Godard are the only two directors in the entire history of cinema who are infuckingsufferable.

>8½ is as self important and thick headed as its main protagonist. If looking for a meta commentary on an aspect of the medium and the creative progress, you're better left with Last Action Hero.

post faves

And have you seen 50s Fellini? What are you basing your opinion on?

I feel at least Godard has more to offer on the technical side of things in his early career experimentation. Yes, most of his films were insufferable even then, but the mechanics he played around with can be very powerful in the hands of more capable film makers.

i liked the good life so much more

it was enjoyable as fuck, even tho I thought the treatment of women was pretty sexist

You're wrong dude 8.5 is just a well shot fun movie with a lot of attractive girls in it.

Beyond its cinematography, Tokyo Story is the second most snooze inducing films of all time, right behind, Bicycle Thieves, a film one wants to like because of historical context and subject matter, yet every attempt leaves you snoring.

Werner Herzog and Ingmar Bergman are both right when it comes to Godard. What a pretentious, pompous blowhard, qualities one often finds in abundance when exposed to his admirers.

Watch Babe instead of Au Hasard Balthazar. Better human/animal performances and you're left with a deeper, more profound message.

Vertigo is not the greatest film of all time, it isn't even Hitchcock's best. Neither is North by Northwest, but it's great if you ever wanted to see his take on a schlocky Bond movie.

L'Eclisse is one of the prettiest screensavers ever made, and is best enjoyed while away or in the background while doing household chores.

In the Mood for Love is just your average chickflick romcom without all of the relatability and narrative points normally there to keep its intended audience engaged. You don't care about these people and don't get any release, much like porn with the money shot cut out.

Enter The Void's opening credits are more interesting and engaging than the film itself. In a fair world, they'd have won an Oscar while the film itself got a Razzie.

Lars Von Trier is a bad person, and desperately wants you to know that he's a bad person trough his work. He's an artist alright, but not a one I particularly care for, much as with performance artists that create art using their bodily fluids. He deserves the respect and tolerance one gives to the dead.

I want to say that I got anything from Mirror, but the cinematography got in the way of anything of worth being reflected upon me.

>the treatment of women was pretty sexist

You have to go back!

PT Anderson's best film, stop triggering me cunt

Most of this is babby's first arthouse anyway but Bicycle Thieves seriously went over your head

Back to the past! Samurai Jack!

Stop being mean to Lars!!

Well, of course. I haven't been able to keep awake trough it yet, it is that boring. And this is coming from someone who survived Tokyo Story on his second try.

But that's what he wants, the poor bugger.

>Watch Babe instead of Au Hasard Balthazar. Better human/animal performances and you're left with a deeper, more profound message.
this legitimately triggered me holy shit i'm mad

Fellini's early films were pretty fun, it wasn't until the 70s that he turned pretentious

I can't tell if this is pasta or not.

This retarded piece of shit right here

nice blog, faggot
now die

>Stay on topic
>Give explanations on why I don't like something

durrr, stop not-shitposting

Lost in Translation

>Sup Forums proves again that it's filled with plebs

No surprise there. No wonder this board has so many capeshit threads.

Kys faggot

DUDE DRUGS LMAO KEKEKEKEKEKEKEK SO SURREAL AND RANDUM XD

Exhilarating

Why isit every time a movie is caĺled this word it turns out to actually be sucking elephant feces.

Does he? Is he a sadist or a masochist? Are the women in his films him or his victims? Probably the former I guess

>this thread

>eternal sunshine
mite b gud

Wrong

Haven't seen the film so you could be right but the book's a lot of fun

OK you asked for it.

>Tokyo Story is the second most snooze inducing films of all time, right behind, Bicycle Thieves
Pretty sure you've never gone beyond 15 mins in both of these because you have ADD. I'll tell you why?
You hate the father in Tokyo Story because he's slow and you stopped in the first scene itself because you're used to banging hookers in less than 3 minutes. You hate the mundanity of Bicycle Thieves because you've never had to struggle for a job, you posh boy.

>Godard.
You've never seen Le Mepris. If you have then you should try falling in love with a woman now that you're old enough.

>human/animal performances
This is not what Balthazar is about. It's about many things but never about you're implying in your trivial fashion.

>L'Eclisse
You have no clue about Expressionism. You said you liked Historical context. Didn't you, faggot?

>In the Mood for Love is just your average chickflick romcom
Try again

>Enter The Void
I haven't seen it, so i'll let this slide.

>Lars Von Trier is a bad person
Ever heard of Polanski?

>I want to say
Here's your problem. You just want to speak because you like reading it back to yourself in your own voice. This is because you probably don't have friends/family or they hate you or you're a garden variety narcissist or a combination of these.

>Enter The Void's opening credits are more interesting and engaging than the film itself
spot the fuck on, the cinematography is also good

Killing of a Chinese Bookie
Eternal Sunshine
Love
Anything by Innaratu

Nice. An actual response.

>You hate the father in Tokyo Story
No, I just don't really care that much about the literal and figurative death of traditional Japanese values. Excellent filmmaking on a technical level though, some of the best I've seen.

>You hate the mundanity of Bicycle Thieves because you've never had to struggle for a job
Actually, I've been there. That's why I wanted to like it and still feel bad about not being able to engage with it. But the problem I think is that we've seen this story done so many times since and from so many more interesting angles.

>Godard
To be fair, I'm railing on him on a personal level. I don't like the artist nor the films I've seen by him, but my god, his experimentation with the form. Great tools succeeding film makers have used for superior effect.

>This is not what Balthazar is about
It actually is on a directorial level. Robert Bresson purposefully went for mechanical performances with his actors to further contrast them and their sinfulness with the saintly Donky. But as much as I love Catholic motifs, I've grown averse to guilt porn in recent years and stand by my endorsment of Babe over it.

>You have no clue about Expressionism.
I've studied it somewhat, enough to know that it's a pretty fun and creative period in art history, cinema included. L'Eclisse is not, but it sure looks pretty. I think it would gain more from being frozen and blown up into individual frames to display at an art gallery.

>Try again
Nah. I'll leave that to Wong Kar-wai.

>Ever heard of Polanski?
Sure, but even in the Tenant where he clearly wants you to loathe him, he does so with a mastery that makes you want to do so and then see his next film, instead of just walking away utterly disgusted. He might be a monster, but at least he's a monster of a film maker as well, unlike Lars who is more of a rodent.

>Here's your problem.
"Our". This is the only reason we come to this site and partake in threads like these.

Crane Shot: The Movie.
Impressive, yet dull.

No shit
Fellini is a fucking hack and the Italians as a whole are insufferable
With the exception of Piavoli

Not problem child 2

>Vertigo is not the greatest film of all time, it isn't even Hitchcock's best

This is true

You misspelled "Awesome films for epic master race patricians"

8 1/2 is indulgent trash, never met someone who likes it who wasn't a Sup Forums tier pseud.

8 1/2 is, without a doubt, the most pretentious art in existence.

this, also everything made by pt anderson

Except there will be blood which is the greatest movie ever made.

Imagine a 60s gay porno with all the sex scenes removed with old-timey music playing over it

You'll get this

meeeoooooooooow
