>READ BOOKS

If you had problems or pretend you do on Sup Forums with TFA read below all the shit they cut or could have added. This will make things a lot more clearer.

>The New Republic is formed after the Battle of Endor and signs a peace treaty, the Galactic Concordance, with the remnants of the Galactic Empire, which predicts demilitarization on both parts. A faction still loyal to Palpatine's ideology retreats to the fringes of the galaxy, where they form the First Order. The New Republic is unwilling to recognize them as a threat, prompting Leia to assemble the Resistance to fight them.

>Rey salvaged a flight simulator from one of the damaged spaceships scattered across Jakku and spends her days practicing to become a skilled pilot.

>Finn was at the top of his class in Stormtrooper Academy, displaying great leadership skills and excellent marksmanship, but is also prone to insubordination and has a history of rejecting indoctrination. Captain Phasma regards him as one of her most promising subordinates at first.

>Poe's parents were members of the Rebel Alliance and fought alongside Luke Skywalker during the destruction of both Death Stars. He was originally a pilot for the New Republic, but left after they refused to recognize the looming threat of the First Order, and was then recruited by Leia, becoming one of her most loyal soldiers.

>General Hux's family has commanded the First Order since its inception, and his father was the creator of the indoctrination process for captive children to turn them into Stormtrooper. Hux murdered him in order to inherit his position.

>The Resistance can't track BB-8 because C-3P0 forgot to activate it's tracking beacon.

>Snoke is a powerful figure in the Dark Side of the Force and witnessed the rise and fall of the Empire. He had apprentices before, but regards Kylo Ren as his most promising student as he did not begin as an adept of the Dark Side, and instead, was corrupted and fallen from the Light. Snoke is also afraid of Luke Skywalker and orders Hux to destroy the Hosnian System in order to prevent the New Republic from becoming involved in the search for Luke.

>Kylo Ren knows that Darth Vader redeemed himself and helped destroy Palpatine, but Snoke has convinced him that the Light clouded Vader's judgement, and uses it as a credence that Ren must kill Han Solo to prove his allegiance to the Dark Side.

>Poe crawls out of the damaged TIE Fighter just as Finn arrives searching for him, and drifts off without realizing Finn is there. He happens upon a local trader being attacked by scavengers and defends him. The trader, in retribution, helps Poe reach the Resistence to ask for extraction.

>Rey gets drunk in the cantina and is later confronted by Unkar Plutt, who has followed her from Jakku and attempts to force her to return with him. Chewbacca steps him and rips off Unkar's arm.

>The Resistance is publically denounced by the New Republic, although some of its members are secretly backing Leia's activities, and as such, Leia has made enemies in the Hosnian System and elects an emissary, Korr Sella, to represent her before the Senate and plead for their help to fight the First Order. She is killed when the Hosnian System is destroyed.

>The Starkiller Base is powered by Dark Matter, and fires a beam of energy through hyperspace, which materializes moments before destroying its target. The hyperspace rift causes it to be visible across the galaxy.

>With the destruction of the New Republic and its fleet, the First Order establishes itself as the most powerful military force left in the galaxy, far superior to the Resistance.

>Maz Kanata accompanies the heroes to the Resistance's headquarters on D'Quar, and gives Leia Luke's lightsaber, which Leia then entrusts to Finn, certain it'll be in good hands until it finds its way back to Rey.

>Kylo resents Han for returning to his old life as a "lowly smuggler" after hearing of his heroic acts during the war between the Empire and the Rebels.

>Leia knew Snoke would try to corrupt Kylo, but kept it a secret from Han, believing that, since he wasn't Force-sensitive, he wouldn't understand and his brash nature could make the situation worse. Han resented her for lying to him and left once Kylo massacred Luke's students.

>Prior to murdering Han, a conflicted Kylo makes his way to the Millennium Falcon and sits in the cockpit, pondering his decision.

>Finn and Rey reunite at the Starkiller Base, and upon learning from Chewbacca that Finn was the one that convinced the Resistance to return for her, Rey appears to develop feelings for him.

>During the battle on the Starkiller Base, Finn and Rey commander a snowmobile to plan the final explosives while being chased by a battalion of Snowtroopers.

>Rather than performing a trench run, Poe and his X-Wing squadron only bomb the Starkiller Base from above after Finn and Han lower the planetary shields, although several X-Wings are destroyed by arriving TIE Fighters.

>Kylo Ren chasing Finn and Rey into the forest.

>When Rey wields Luke's lightsaber, Kylo appears to recognize her, and Rey notes that he appears to know more about her than herself.

>After defeating Kylo, Rey prepares to kill him, and a voice urges her to do so and surrender herself to the Dark Side, but she rejects its influence and chooses to spare Kylo, just as a fissure opens between them.

>Hux and his men arrive to extract Kylo from the collapsing landscape as demanded by Snoke, but Hux prevents his men from blasting Finn and Rey, preferring to leave them to die slowly and in agony as the planet is torn apart.

>C-3P0 has access to a network of droids scattered across the galaxy that he can contact to provide information to the Resistance. That's how the Resistance finds Rey, Finn, Han, Chewbacca and BB-8 in Maz's castle.

>Rey reports to the Resistance leaders that, while probing Kylo Ren's mind, she learned that the map provided by Lor San Tekka actually leads to the first Jedi temple, and was stolen from the Imperial Archives. The phrase "Imperial Archives" triggers R2-D2's awakening, as he had downloaded data from the Imperial Archives when he infiltrated the Death Star. He then immediately provides the half of the map that completes BB-8's half.

>While the Resistance leaders are celebrate, Rey and Poe hug, awkwardly introduce each other, and Rey notes that she has hard of him and is honored to meet him.

>Upon finding Luke Skywalker and offering him the lightsaber, Rey pleads "Luke Skywalker, please help us. You're our only hope".

That's all great honestly. Chubacca's rupping an arm off would have been GOAT, but ratings wouldn't have allowed that.

The biggest problem is, that would have mean, I'd say, 20 more minutes of screen time for all that.
And that represents a lot of money.

>the movie isn't actually shit user!!
>you just have to read this random obscure book!!

>that is cannon!!

I mean, in itself, the movie isn't "shit". It is unimaginative in its scenario, but it is well directed and made. Its biggest flaws is that it's being compared with some of the best movies of its categories, and nostalgia glasses so of course it can feel inferior.

TFA was 1/10, nothing can change that.

>I mean, in itself, the movie isn't "shit".
It is though.

we'll see about that

Sounds like shit to me.

I don't even feel like starting this argument but no it isn't.

The visuals are good, the music is good (again, when you take it alone, without comparing every scene with another SW), the acting is good to great, depending on the actors, etc.

If you take it alone, as a standalone movie, not comparing it with the others, it IS a good movie. Not a perfect one, far from it, it's scenario has loads of plotholes, ones that could have been filled as shown by OP's posts, but it is still an overall good movie.

Stuff like The Room is a bad movie. TFA isn't.

No TFA was really bad and utterly forgettable, worse than all 3 prequels, objectively speaking.

want to explain why or are you just gonna shitpost? Also art can't be objective and all movies more or less are art.

BOOOOOORIIIIIIIING

there is nothing in this movie, it's pure void and cynical cash grab, you're either a massive cuck, a disney employee or dead inside to give any credit to such scam

Utterly retarded. Worse than anything in the EU.

If you think TFA; a crappy shot for shot remake of a new hope is art then you really should stop coming to Sup Forums

Disney Star Wars is worse than capeshit.

if it wasnt so hyped up you'd probably rate it a more realistic 6/10 or something, not the 1/10 shitscore you are trying to pass off

There is no point arguing with crazy people.
With that said: If you have to read a book to understand the characters motivation in a movie, it's not a good movie.
It seems, that the book was only written to explain plotholes.

Book got published before the release of the movie IIRC.
But your point stands.

>if you want to get the full story you have to read books

This is true for every adaptation, and the only people who don't realise this are the people who don't read.

>Rey salvaged a flight simulator from one of the damaged spaceships scattered across Jakku and spends her days practicing to become a skilled pilot.
holy shit it's like watching someone write the backstory for their Naruto OC

bump

>"Luke Skywalker, please help us. You're our only hope"
That would have made the scene so much better. Why in the fuck would they cut that?

>only way the movie can make sense is to read extra material
you've been so brainwashed by disney that you'll defend this shit no matter what
t. never watched any stars wars flick

If you do don't watch TFA. It totally fridges Luke Skywalker as feminists would say

>2016
>reading books
Fuck off

That all makes the movie make a lot more sense

Pic related exists for a reason.

If you want to be a full time star wars fan now you need to commit.

where did you get this from?

Sup Forumss star wars general has it frequently updated

so the TFA novel or the upcoming R1 novel isn't cannon?

Still shit, sorry Disney. Your shilling doesn't work here, nobody here wants to buy your shit books or watch your shit movies.

>episode IV twice
>not IX
>american """""education"""""

well that image was made by the kind of retard that obsesses over star wars of all things

Novelizations aren't canon over the movies. Any extra details in novelizations need to be taken with a huge grain of salt because most other canon authors and directors will ignore them. I personally ignore them completely.

A huge chunk of the OP list is still canon though for being described in other canon stuff

>>Finn was at the top of his class in Stormtrooper Academy, displaying great leadership skills and excellent marksmanship, but is also prone to insubordination and has a history of rejecting indoctrination. Captain Phasma regards him as one of her most promising subordinates at first.

This makes no sense. They stated that he had no history of insubordination, and was treated like just any other random trooper and not one of their top guys. Plus why would they make a trooper at the top of his class a janitor?

Stormtroopers are all the same rank. Top of his class or not, hes no more qualified than any other stormtrooper trooper. Janitorial duties and such were probably assigned randomly

The Force Awakens is not an adaption JJ.

Other than the background on how the first order, republic, and resistance are formed literally none of this extra shit explains or fixes the movie, story, or characters.

>Rey gets drunk

WHY DID THEY CUT THIS

some parents would be upset probably
just like the end of episode 3 with the burning corpse

bump

>>Utterly retarded. Worse than anything in the EU.

Worse than the Suncrusher?

Maria Suez~

>Mary Sue
>invalidates the struggle of the OT
>well made

It's perhaps the worst blockbuster film of all time.

Effects can't save it.

>you can only appreciate this fanfiction-tier film if only you've read and enjoyed these fanfiction books

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Do these people know how to make a goddamn movie? Shiit, I wonder what a coen brothers Star Wars would be like....

>Steve buscemi as tarkin
>goodman as chewbacca

I wonder what a David Lean-influenced Star Wars movie would be like.

Oh wait, we already have the OT

>>Poe's parents were members of the Rebel Alliance and fought alongside Luke Skywalker during the destruction of both Death Stars.
so he's wedge's son then?
he's the only one besides han, chewie, luke, and vader who survived the death star 1 space battle

Prequels at least had fantastic top notch designs in them. AT-TE`s and all the clone trooper armor variants are pure star wars. The TFA just takes everything from the OT, and the things it changes it changes to shit, like the new stormtrooper armor is something from an apple commercial desu.

Original>TFA>episode 3>episode 2

tfa above rots, k.

TFA is a shit movie and episode 3 was better.

t. massive star wars fan

i'm talking about the clone/storm trooper designs.
notice how PM isn't in there.

I thought you see escape

Millenium falcon
2 x-wings
1 y-wing

he could be wedges son though, since they tried to get the original actor back for Force Awakens and he said no

We all know who his father truly was.

Anyone got the pic of Ridley smile super hard with her eyes closed.
