Is Rome worth watching?

I'm really bored and I heard this show is fantastic
Is it overrated? Am I wasting my time?

S1 is 11/10. S2 is still great but suffered from the fact that they had to cram in 3 seasons worth of plot. Watch it.

Show is awful.
Season 2 is somehow even worse than the second.
Many seem to enjoy it, though. So you might want to check it out.

I like Spartacus better than this show.

it is great but if you are underage or have poor attention span you will probably find it boring.

you should watch it and then we can talk about it again during the inevitable You Lied To Me Sup Forums thread you're going to make

Will there be a lot of sixpack scenes?

That's because you're who you are.

I'll give it a try

Eirin best girl claimed

The first series, at least, is absolutely superb. Even /his/ thinks highly of it.

It's worse than GOT 1-4 but way better than GOT 5-6

HE WAS A CONSUL OF ROME

It's the ultimate pleb filter.

>full of tits and bloody violence
yeah no way a teenage boy would enjoy this show

>season 4 Got
>good
absolutely kill yourself

oh man that scene, from all the rome scenes this was one of the best pullopepe eating the spit of his waifu

True show for true patricians.
Plebeians are not allowed to discuss this piece of kino (forgive the Greek term) at the Comitia Centuriata.
All plebeian discussion shall be postponed to the next assembly of the Concilium Plebis.

Imagine GOT except with good acting, writing and plot

>ywn gesticulate this well

Spartacus is way better than this overrated horseshit

True TV made for true patricians.

Oh shit, I see you said the very same thing. Well carry on user.

On the right :

WE

Is this a regular Rome thread meme?

Better than that Spartacus show

This isn't Spartacus. Teenage boys can get tits on their phones, that doesn't mean they're going to watch a 20 hour long show that's mainly a 10/10 soap opera for grown men.

>is a consensus top 10 TVkino worth watching?

It's great, such a fucking shame it got cancelled.

>better than Spartacus
Words fall from your mouth like shit from ass

pleb

waaaay better. Spartacus is a shitty 300 knock off with worse CG

yep

plebs detected.

Spartacus is a patrician show in pleb clothing

maybe they should've made it look nicer then

newsguy was GOAT character

wuz

...

maybe you should stop shitting your pants

THIRTEENTH!

THEN GIVE ME A DIAPER!!! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Just watch I, claudius and skip over it.

That scene, senpai. Its perfect

kato did NOTHING wrong

Really? The production value is the most cringe shit I've seen in a minute. Turned that shit off 10 minutes in.

HE

same. Heard the story gets better but if it looks that bad I dont have the patience

overrated as fuck. i really don't get why Sup Forums has such a massive hardon on this show. its basically GoT lite. A lot of plot and actors were copie from GoT as well. fuck this show

>ctrl+f: Mark Anthony

This is a sad day

Maximus Context

>tfw watched this with my dad when I was 11

Weird childhood tb h

And yes, this came out 11 years ago

Feel old?

>A lot of plot and actors were copie from GoT as well. fuck this show

That's pretty fucking amazing considering this came 4 years before GoT.

>frogposting

Kill yourself

Go watch it right now. HD versions are hard to find, but if you can get your hands on one I'd recommend it.

>this came out 11 years ago
damn

I disagree
Rome is plebeian visceral
To watch Claudius directly afterwards requires Patrician intellect

It's a test of character

I'Claudius arrived when I turned 5 and yet here is me still celebrating it regardless of the age, Quality counts

You will feel the same about ROME in 20 years time

more like claudius "arrived" on your face

You seduced him!

>mfw

Plebeian

it's fucking awesome
watch it

One of the true HBO greats only behind The Sopranos and Vinyl.

As an Italian guy from Italy watching these fucks talking and posturing like that made me proud. Pretty historically correct series desu

>Vinyl
It still hurts. Fuck you HBO for cancelling it

vinyl had a shit storyline

only trve romans could appreciate this show

Can't tell if shit taste or just pleb.

Atia Orgasmising when Timon grabbed her by the throat after torturing an assassin

This shit is real user

Women in power love to be dominated in the bedroom.
It's acknowledgement from "Daddy" for doing something against the rules
When they can't get that admiration, they act out and seek approval from Daddy/Uncle Julius/ the local gangster. even your brother or father

It explains Atia's motives throughout ROME, she wants approval for her shady motives

But practically everything in Rome was ripped off from the Greeks...
>italians
>roman

vinyl was garbage. rome was good

>You shall leave this city or I will declare our alliance broken. I will have this sad story read in the forum, I will have it posted in every city in Italy, and you know the people are not so liberal with their wives as you. They shall say you wear cuckolds horns; they shall say your wife betrayed you with a low-born plebe on my staff. You will be a figure of fun. The proles will laugh at you in the street. Your soldiers will mock you behind your back.

What did he mean by this?

apples and oranges
story-wise, i'd give both season 1 a 10/10
spartacus wins on the the best-finale-every-season category though

the fact that Terrence Winter cut short the last season of Boardwalk Empire so he could work on that garbage is a fucking travesty

It's like if Michelangelo stopped painting the Sistine Chapel so he could help paint some guy's roof in Poughkeepsie

I like your style dude.

Rome is to patricians what Spartacus is to plebs

It's decent. Kinda too much sex and shitty side plots for my taste though. I Claudius is way better if you're looking for something based on ancient Rome

LOL HE SAID KEKOLD

...

...

You made me laugh but you're being to hard on the show. Even though I agree it had problems getting it's plots straight.

Also:
>Coke,LMAO! Man!

Go on. Strike me.

Teen Augustus > Young Octavian

its not great but its entertaining as all hell sort of like banshee. plus all the tits and beefcake

>it's another scorsese 'dude cocaine and degeneracy lmao' shitshow

>cicero

>the fact that Terrence Winter cut short the last season of Boardwalk Empire so he could work on that garbage is a fucking travesty

I love this meme. The truth is that dwindling viewership cut the show short.

That blonde one looks like Ashley Fires.

I watched this show because of that webm of Vorenus looking at Titus Pullo while they were surrounded by cheering soldiers. Titus is cheering like the other soldiers until he notices Vorenus looking at him, and then he continues to cheer but with less enthusiasm.

I had always wondered what that webm was about, I though maybe they were preparing for a battle or something, so I watched the whole damn show.

And I got to that scene... and it was about Cuckolding. I'm not even joking. My man Lucius was a cuckold the whole time, and Titus had possibly cucked Julius Gaius Caesar. He was cheering about the secret cucking. And then he almost gets cucked later on. It was at that moment that the show lost me and I finally understood why it got such good reviews from Sup Forums.

trips dont lie

Wrong

Decide for yourself

this guy was based as fuck

god damn I love hot milfs

>ancient roman during the time of the republic
>fat
DECIMATED
Have only seen one episode, not going to bother if it's going to shit on my favourite era of history.

I'm really looking forward to the day they do a genuine, truly authentic reconstruction of the fall of the Republic, starting from Marius saving Rome from the Cimbri, to Caesar's assassination and funeral. With much focus on the real stars of the time like Cicero, Cato the Elder, Pompey, Clodius, Crassus etc. In the original various forms of Latin and classical Greek with subtitles please.

Yes, I listen to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History and you should too.

Nobody wants to watch that. Rome already focused on the least amount of important characters and still struggled with viewers.

...

Maybe if they'd included awesome shit like Sulla marching on Rome and loads of battles from the social war and stuff, it would've got more viewers. There's more political intrigue and manipulation in those times than a thousand seasons of Game of Thrones, but instead of Tyrion and Stannis we get asswipe soldiers and random nobodies?

They should tell the amazing true story of Rome, not write a new story and set it in Rome. But execs don't trust viewers to appreciate historical significance and instead make another predictable load of sexy sword waving and shouting about personal drama.

Hopefully one day there will be an AI that can make great movies by analysing our knowledge of history, filling in the gaps with the most likely scenarios and presenting a film as true to real life as possible (with English subs), because that would be M times better than the formulaic historical fiction foisted on us by studio hacks these days.

GoT was a hit because it's a new story and basically people want to watch what other people are watching. Rome's story has been told a thousand times already (at least in the plebs' perspective). tl;dr Rome story is not original so it won't be a hit

First, originality isn't what makes a hit. See pic related.

Second, it would be fresh to most people, who have never heard of Sulla, have no idea who Marius was, and would be stoked to learn about what Julius Caesar did IRL, as opposed to Asterix the Gaul tier "history."

People might be turned off by "oh ANOTHER historical thing about boring history" at first, but it could be done in a faithful way and be so entertaining that word of mouth makes it work.

wtf?

this is almost as beautiful as a Roman woman fucked by baboons
