Is it rude in polite Japanese to use forms like が欲しい / たい to mean "you want" when addressing customers?
From what I understand she's trying to say "Do you want to look at it?" but there are no volition/desire structures in place, so I guess literally it's more like "Will you look at it?" Is it more polite to say it that way?

I'd be shocked if I hear that "XXが欲しいですか?" or "XXしたいですか?" from a shop clerk.

If someone could direct me to grammar resources that talk about 敬語 desire/volition, that would be great. Can't seem to find it online and no grammar book I have used talks about that. Just basic 謙譲語 / 尊敬語
Actually, Imabi says this "There are other entire phrases to avoid in 敬語. Asking if your superior can do something is forbidden! Asking directly whether your superior wants to do something or is thinking something is also bad. Consider the following.
20. お茶をお飲みになりたいですか。 X → お茶をお飲みになりますか。 Do you want to drink tea? → Will you drink tea?"
So I'm guessing just non-past form is what is used here

Yo, I just read wikipedia articles about japan in the 20th centurie for like 2 hours. Now I have questions. First of all what kind of role did tenno Hirohito have during the second world war, was he responsible about the warcrimes and stuff like that? Also what do you guys think about other asians? Do you see yourself as a better devolped race as them? What is Shintoism about? I thought it was a really interesting religion at first, but it seems rerally odd to me that "you" wanted to convert the koreans to shintoism after Korea got annexed. Seems like the same shit as christianity pretty much. I guess because the japanese government wanted the tenno to be respected in Korea or something like that. I'm genuine curious about japan and the japanese people, so please answer truthful.
how exactly do you phrase "being" for example "being cute is hard" I have a feeling かわいいでいることが難しい is not correct

Janny 今日も放置 Because 敬語 is the system which does not exist for English at all, it is not possible for anyone to translate it for English correctly. If we, Japanese, give someone an opportunity of the choice to esteem the his will, we will use 敬語 usually In such a case, which will you use "do you want to" or "would you like to"?
1 ご覧になる is the most polite form of 見る , that is 尊敬語 2 IMO:お茶をお飲みなられますか。Would you like to drink a cup of tea, Sir?
