RYM is inherently useless because it averages the votes of users with diverse tastes. I don't give a shit about the opinions of someone who like Gucci Gang, what they consider a "good album" is not related on any level to what I would consider a good album. Ratings sites should allow you to filter ratings by the top rated genre of the people rating them.
RYM is inherently useless because it averages the votes of users with diverse tastes...
Caring about any rating on rym besides your own is pointless.
Fuck o** retard
>implying Gucci Gang isn't objectively good
that would needlessly overcomplicate things
Post an album with a score lower than 3 that's actually good. I'll wait.
>I don’t give a shit about the opinions of people who disagree with me.
Good. Don’t. The average album rating shouldn’t be that important to you anyway. I’ve given negative ratings to positive rated albums and vice versa.
>what are friends ratings
That isn't the problem, it's fine for filtering out shit. The problem is albums I would subjectively consider shit because they're just not my thing, that you would consider great, could have the same rating as an album I would consider shit and you would consider great.
rym isn't going to be relevant in the future anyway, it's a fad page that kids like to use, nothing more
one of those should obviously be reversed, calling my own typo
Hold my Home by Cold War kids.
It's a solid 4/5, about as good as it gets for standard indie rock.
Not OP btw
It applies to any rating system that tries to objectively rate music. DAMN could be a 10 for you and a 4 for me. Some melon giving it a 7 doesn't tell me anything about whether I'll like it.
dude there's a lot of them.
Lots of people give 2.5 ratings to albums that should be at least 4/5
You’d just have to find out for yourself. The average is just a general consensus that may or may not apply to you. It’s not that important. Sometimes you’ll agree sometimes you won’t. Plenty of times I didn’t.
Well the point of ratings is to give general likeability trends and it's useful info, you can always listen to it and rate it however you want. The rating shouldn't affect how much you like it, or even if you listen to it or not.
Well yeah that's literally what I'm complaining about and trying to find a solution to. Some people just don't like fast music, the 10/10 holy grail of speed metal would never appeal to them. Some people don't like simple or complex rhythms, etc.
And it’ll be balanced with the people who do and give it a rating. As long as the people are listening to the album they can be added to the average.
Even then if you really NEEDED to filter out people there’s not really an accurate way to do that.
>Ratings sites should allow you to filter ratings
Should but won't. Over the years the filter systems on all review sites have regressed a hell of a lot. Rotten Tomatoes even used to have filters so you could look at all top movies of a specfic genre released in, say, 1970. Now they've removed that.
>And it'll be balanced by people who do
We're back to the original problem, a speed metal or rap track rated by fans of those genres will never be a useful number to someone who isn't. It leads to an "everything is 3.5" pressure.
That's why you add people with similar tastes to yours to your friends/follows and then do a chart that's based on their tastes.
You can do that on rym though.
Also this : It will show the average rating of your friends/favorites next to the global average rating
Sweet Revenge by Ryuichi Sakamoto

RYM is horribly contrarian in regards to pop music that was actually played on the radio

Lots of great singles have the tendency to be sub-3.0 since RYMers are braindead rockists and the few who rate singles are edgy avant-teens. This is the main reason why RYM sucks for electronic music.
He will always be superior. RYM is the upwardly mobile pleb-o-meter for Sup Forumsdrones who get angry when a 'critically acclaimed album' (album you listen to for social capital) isn't given a 9/10 by literally anybody by default
I agree, RYM is pretty accurate when it comes to determining whether an album is good or not
do you really think kanye and kendrick are artists of the decade
>Someone rates an album I like extremely low
>Check their 5s
>All Sup Forumscore with some esoteric/eccentric jazz thrown in
authoritarian scaruffi > democratic rym
No, but there isn't any great album that has under a 3.5 on RYM
you don't listen to much music friend
