I unironically love this movie. Of course it gets cheesy at the end but Jeremy Irons just about manages to keep the last bits together.
Also the soundtrack is absolutely fantastic and needs to be played loudly. And that Time Machine is really, really gorgeous.

I can see both sides. I would definitely say nowadays you could get away with "Eaters of the Dead", but not in '99.
