The rest of it and Closer
Also Television they are a better post punk band
>Television are a better post punk band
buddy...
The guitar playing and production is way better than Unknown Pleasures
I like Closer and Marquee Moon equally tho
How are those two albums similar at all. MM isn't post-punk, for starters.
I listened to the rest and enjoyed it. I specifically liked the guitar driven dance feel of the first song a lot tho. I don't really have enough of an education in music to be much more specific, but I like how it felt upbeat and dark at the same time, if that makes sense.
Who is this band?
>MM not post-punk
Not gonna argue with you if you're just denying facts
Happy Math
Television is not post-punk you fucking idiot.
Sad Unity
This isn't that sonically similar but maybe try The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified for that kind of feel
not but what genre would you call television though?
>literally everyone else is wrong!!!
You don't get to pull genre tags out of your ass and get anyone to care about your opinion, buddy.
Glad Company
listen to post punk revival
sometimes wire reminds me of that song. gang of four as well maybe?
In my opinion Closer was a much more unique and better album, but the importance of Unknown Pleasures is there.
People claim example band is better but I notice they don't really match up in terms of atmosphere and sound, atleast in terms of being unique, they really were ahead of their time.
the best one desu
This t-shirt sounds mediocre.
...
And what's the name of the album?
Stranger Kinks
Disorder reminds me of Megaman for some reason.
thank me later
Anything by modest mouse or brand new
>implying OP asked for a glib facsimile
proto-post-punk
kinda with on this one, if Television aren't post-punk what genre are they? proto-post-punk is an obvious meme and will be disregarded
proto-post-punk
why do you care so much about labels?
i dont really care, but if i were to refer to their genre (genre being a useful concept to communicate about music), i would probably say post-punk. users in this thread seem to think that is wrong. I am curious what would be better.
have a shirt with that on it.. what is it?
Nirvana - In Utero
Merzbow - Pulse Demon
Wire (esp second and third albums)
The Sound (especially Jeopardy)
Josef K
New Order (Movement at least)
DNA on DNA
New Order. Objectively most correct answer.
Familiar Sorrows
Man, what happened to them?
...
Thanks for this, very helpful
pornography- the cure
unhappy gathering
The rest of the album dummy
I listened to the whole album haha, there's just something about the first track I really liked and I'm having trouble finding anything else that has it.
Gay Group
Fra Lippo Lippi - In Silence
I'm just curious as to what post punk is really, is it just the production? rythm section? passing?
You haven't gotten a real response yet, so I'll throw a bone:
>art rock (stupid label)
>art punk (equally stupid but more specific)
That's all I got. Idk what people have against calling Marquee Moon post punk, other than the fact that it came out DURING the punk explosion. Those people take the "post" in "post punk" pretty fucking literally, ignore them.
interzone my fav track off that album its so epic win X-DDDD
haha epin this is soy divisiĆ³n :-DDD
Check out Warsaw's self-titled. I personally prefer it over UP.
interpol - turn on the bright lights
can't believe none of you have recommended this one yet, you can't name a better post punk revival act

these are fantastic recs, seconding all of these.
punk attitude but with more diverse pool of influences (often funk, reggae, krautrock, psychedelia, 60s experimental rock like Velvet Underground and Silver Apples)
Bass and drums are more present than they are in punk. Also, compared to punk, post-punk is full of people who were musicians before they formed their bands.
The riffs are often quite tight, the bands are very locked in.
Often the songwriting is more experimental, bands like This Heat, Pere Ubu and Swell Maps take it quite far with tape manipulation, mixing live and studio recordings together.
The political bands tend to have very explicit ideology beyond just "fuck the system". Wire for example are a bunch of university educated Marxists.
Reccomending pic related for some more good modern post-punk. One of my favorite albums period.
yea this album is fantastic. it manages to wear its influences on its sleeve while also not really sounding like anyone else.
for the longest time i thought the lyrics were
"i've been waiting for a guy to come and take me by the hand, 'cause these sensations make me feel the pleasures of another man"
Same desu
