What did Sup Forums think about this netflix show?
Just finished it, and got to say it got me hooked from beginning to end. I really started to believe in the story that the oa was telling, and was intrigued by the experiment.
To me the show was all about searching and discovering what the afterlife is.
It's then such a shame that the story took a 180 towards the end, and it really left a bad taste in my mouth. I really wanted to know what happened with the angel killer and the 5 subjects.
Shame. That's the word that best describes how I felt after being led down an interesting moral route only to be tripped and let down at the end.
Anthony Sanders
"I'm the OA." "OA?" "Outrageous Autist." "Oh. Ok."
John Morales
Uh what show is this?
Noah Johnson
Called "The OA"
From imdb: Prairie Johnson (Brit Marling), who comes home to the community she grew up in with her sight restored. Some hail her a miracle, others a dangerous mystery, but Prairie won't talk about her seven years missing with the FBI or her parents.
Jeremiah Clark

Luke Martin
>Brit Marling No thanks. 2pretentious4me
Leo James
Napoleon Dynamite was the OA all along.
Austin Adams
At what point could you tell it was bullshit? For me it was when French found the video of her in the subway. The fact that it only showed her, and never showed HAP is what did it. I spent the entire time hoping it would be true then French found the books, and a school shooting happened for no reason, five faggots did an interpretive dance >mfw
Noah Butler
I don't really think the video of her playing at the subway was an indication of her making the story up. Sure, it did feel a bit weird when seeing it, but didn't set off any alarms, at least not in my mind.
Then again the news article about those kids dying in Russia, that the students found, really helped convince me it was a real story.
In addition the markings on her back also helped convince me. I mean... really.. who would create such markings just to fuck with people?
Wyatt Gutierrez
Just started this. Please tell me the chad gets killed soon? They really are doing a good job to make me hate a character.
Bentley Gutierrez
Well... that's a good point. I actually completely forgot about the markings. But so much shit just doesnt add up. Fucking nothing adds up. It's like they took two halves of a story, one shiity and one good, and just mushed them I think we all knew it wasnt going to end with some happy ending bullshit with the captives escaping and hap getting arrested but come on at least resolve it in the SLIGHTEST fucking christ, for a minute I was almost impressed at the foreshadowing with the FBI agent and her description of the cafeteria but I didnt think her big epiphany would be FUCKING ADAM LANZA LMAAAAO
Jackson Diaz
Why does Brit Marling look like a dude in this?
Adam Reed
Is it actually good, or is this shilling?
Carter Hill
He gets molested.
Robert Rivera
Netflix hasn't dont anything decent without Marvel.
Hudson Williams
Oh fuck yeah
Jordan Barnes
How many episodes my nig nogs and is it worth watching?
Jack Wright
Totally agree. Feels as if they ran out of budget and had got word there wouldn't be a second season.
Kevin Baker
Episode 1 is a bit slow. Quickly gets really good though. Episode 2-3 goes by in a flash. Just ignore all the family drama and focus on the true story: funny times with friends in a lab :3
Jacob Perry
>Fucking nothing adds up Like what exactly?
William Turner
a few things off the top of my head >evelyn (the deputy's wife) had an NDE yet Hap who could track a poor NDE guitarist from fucking isolated Cuba didn't know >hap never getting caught at the hospital >french breaking into OA's house for no reason >FBI being there for no reason >the books even being there in the first place >scenes where OA couldnt possibly know what was happening, or would even make sense for her to make up since it would have been obvious they werent from her point of view like fucking ALL OF CUBA >the fact that nobody realized Hap was bullshitting about everyone starving which he constantly used despite the fact that if he were killed, it would be easy enough to find him because he had contact with police and they had HUGE DISPENSERS of food
Nicholas White
Very good points. The book plot twist really stinks of being rushed just to get the ending they wanted.
The scenes from Cuba does make sense, in some odd way. They talk a lot in the cells and with their captor. Information must have been shared. Also that girl that was taken from Cuba could have told OA she met him previously.
Robert Russell
Most of these make sense to me: >evelyn (the deputy's wife) had an NDE yet Hap who could track a poor NDE guitarist from fucking isolated Cuba didn't know He tracks people who have had NDEs by the abilities they've gained. The guy's wife just had her condition degenerate as as far as we know never had any amazing abilities. >hap never getting caught at the hospital You mean when he was tipping the person off? That seemed reasonable to me, his friend not getting caught seemed more unrealistic. >french breaking into OA's house for no reason He was looking into her past, makes sense to me. >FBI being there for no reason The therapist being there was weird, but I saw someone speculating that he planted the books and will be explained more in later seasons. >the books even being there in the first place See above speculation. Even if that's wrong, her researching her life does make sense. scenes where OA couldnt possibly know what was happening, or would even make sense for her to make up since it would have been obvious they werent from her point of view like fucking ALL OF CUBA She lived with Homer for years after that, I imagine she would have heard about it in great detail. >the fact that nobody realized Hap was bullshitting about everyone starving which he constantly used despite the fact that if he were killed, it would be easy enough to find him because he had contact with police and they had HUGE DISPENSERS of food This was pretty stupid and indefensible, I agree.
Asher Torres
OK, but what about haps conversations with the deputy, or when he was caught? There's also the fact that Rachel was useless Not a plot hole but God damn "We have four movements so far wanna help and practice so we can gtfo later?" Nah I'm just gonna sulk and never sing again
Though I just realized something. I wonder if the FBI agent planted the books? It would place her right in his hands. Put her where he wanted, with him not the kids he felt were just enabling her... though he also said maybe they were a good thing, what with the second hand trauma
Christopher Long
this one? is it any good?
Gabriel Watson
Pretty fun. Drama. A mystery that needs solving. Violence. Death. Great production value.
Dylan Allen
>He tracks people who have had NDEs by the abilities they've gained. The guy's wife just had her condition degenerate as as far as we know never had any amazing abilities. What about Scott McMeth? >He was looking into her past, makes sense to me. I'm trying to lay low and not get in trouble to avoid losing scholarship, let's break into OAs house, MAYBE I'll learn about her past! though the rest of your points are fairly solid
Landon Moore
>OK, but what about haps conversations with the deputy, or when he was caught? You bring up a good point actually, same with the part where he talks with the guy in the hospital and kills him. That is weird and I'd chock it up to bad writing and guess that this happened but she just didn't know or actually tell the others. I don't know, this one doesn't really make sense.
The Rachel thing was annoying, but like you say, it isn't a plot hole or nonsensical, just a bad subplot. I feel like the show was supposed to be longer or something, and this dropped plot is a symptom. Maybe they thought it would be unmarketable and just cut the number of episodes they were supposed to have, figuring that if it did well enough they could shove the rest of the plot in the next season. On the second episode I was guessing that there would be four episodes of her backstory, then four of her actually doing stuff with the people she found. It's possible it was supposed to be like 15 episodes and they cut out a lot of content.
Liam Gray
>What about Scott McMeth? Besides the fact that he was a druggie, do we know he didn't have any abilities? Even so, I think you would never be able to find all the NDE people and would have to rely on news. If her story wasn't publicized or no one else knew it was an NDE then there is no way he would have known.
>I'm trying to lay low and not get in trouble to avoid losing scholarship, let's break into OAs house, MAYBE I'll learn about her past! Well at this point he'd already committed to it pretty hard, walked off his shift and basically sunk everything into it. It is a bit inconsistent though.
Logan Watson
The first episode was great, but every episode after it was worse than the last. I finally realized the show was shit around the time they resurrected the dead guy with the power of interpretive dance. Then there was the final episode which was just pants on head retarded. Aside from all the other issues mentioned ITT, add on this one: why didn't Deputy Dumbass ever try talking to the test subjects directly? Even Hap was saying "THEY" can cure the guy's wife - he wasn't even pretending that he had anything to do with the process.
William Price
I burst out laughing when they started dancing at the end. Just thinking about what would be going through the shooter's mind and the minds of everyone else was too much. And yeah, if I were the deputy I would have just told them if they can cure my wife they can leave and then turned him in.
Ryder Sullivan
Who here bought the hoodie?
James Martin
>I burst out laughing when they started dancing at the end. Same here. I thought maybe they were going for "the story was fake but it brought you five together so you could save the day". But nope, these genius writers managed to come up with something even more retarded
Robert Martinez
is it worth watching? is it only 1 season or are they going to drag the plot for more seasons?
Jeremiah Kelly
Why did this remind her of Homer?
Evan Long
I'd say it's only worth watching if there are more seasons. Watching it now is like watching the intro to a story for eight hours, and the ending feels like a slap in the face. If they salvage it next season and make it interesting then there'll be pay off, but if this is where it ends, it sucks.
Thomas Collins
I've never seen a show go to shit SOOO close to the end and so drastically. I was enjoying it till the last 15-20 mins and then it completely tanked at the end into being a huge waste of time
Kayden Rogers
Also THIS. I was watching hoping the dance would like teleport the shooter or something, but nope, just 5 people dancing like retards in front of a guy with a loaded gun. I was surprised he didn't instantly shoot them. Was probably too confused
Joshua Jones
I think the American Life on Mars remake had a worse ending, but I'd rate this second worst. 7 and a half hours to get the most unsatisfying non-sequitur "climax" ever.
Landon Bailey
>I was surprised he didn't instantly shoot them. Was probably too confused Yep, they just made him think about what the fuck was happening until someone tackled him. I got the ending "spoiled" in an earlier thread, and I still didn't know what would happen because this talk of distracting shooters seemed so random. The way they started dancing was just so comedically overdone too, as if they just know to start dancing when a tragedy happened. Like they suddenly believe OA is bullshitting them but as soon as anything goes wrong they all break out the dance moves.
Sebastian Lopez
Worst TV show of the year.
Your usual christian new-age bullshit about life, soul, afterlife like The Foutain, Sense8, Cloud Atlas, I Origins or Mr Nobody. You find it deep or clever if you are under 15.
Brit isn't my teethfu anymore.
Brayden Young
It's better than Westworld, or anything currently on basic cable. So, lower your standards.
Nolan Edwards
This show is lost tier bullshit
>Oh man its suuuch a mystery >What? no were not going to explain anything >Its not about the mystery its about the characters >tune in next season or you wont find out about the mystery!
Anthony Phillips
ww was shit but not as shit as the ao. Are you 15?
Joseph Jenkins
You couldn't be more wrong. Westworld was a disaster.
Thomas Wilson
>disaster
Greatest show of the year. Can you even name a single thing wrong with it?
Nathaniel Cooper
Oh I get it, you were one of the shrink ray fags and think that because your retarded idea was wrong that its the show that must be shit.
Kayden White
Well L O S T was also your usual christian new-age bullshit about life, soul, afterlife like The Foutain, Sense8, Cloud Atlas, I Origins or Mr Nobody. You find it deep or clever if you are under 15.
If you dance (gha! Spuchuuutt prtttt---huuuu---T__T) with Space Jesus or the Black Smoke, you'll find afterlife/alternate reality/time-loop that fits what the screenwriters want. Bright lights and black voodoo women.
Charles Wood
It was worse than Lost IMO.
Lost set up a bunch of weird shit, then explained each element by adding even more weird shit. What's in the hatch in the woods? Well, there's this guy and he's been pressing this button every 88 minutes for like 15 years... This approach eventually collapsed under its own weight, but at least it kept things interesting. The OA set up a bunch of weird shit, but all the explanations were boring. How'd she get her sight back? It just happened for no reason. What's the effect of eating the bird? She learned some cool dance moves and that's all. This is the main reason I liked the show less the more of it I watched.
Cameron Roberts
How the fuck did she get her sight back if she made it all up? How did she know how to read text when she was blind before? That last episode was some of the worst shit ive ever seen.
Angel Rivera
Who fucking knows. The ending was the shittiest in a show ever
Christian Torres
How did she tame the dog in the beginning? Where did she even escape from in the first episode? What the fuck
Parker Cox
Lost was literal garbage. This show is at least watchable.
Levi Bell
Why did she jump off the bridge? Who fucking knows
Cooper Baker
Don't forget: If she made it all up, why was she crying over Homer when she was alone, before she even started telling the story?
She was trying to have another NDE. Her second or third question to the nurse was "did I flatline?"
Now, why did she want to have another NDE? Who fucking knows
Austin Watson
Isn't it okay for a mystery series to by mysterious?
Lucas Williams
What kind of a school shooter lets everyone know he is coming with warning shots and then doesnt even shoot anyone?
Aiden Kelly
Why did the fucking doors have to be open when it was story time????
I go on pol way too much, and I was literally in tears at the end imagining what the shooter must have been thinking
Owen Rogers
Just because she made up her story doesn't mean she didn't believe it. But, like what said, it sets up everything yet doesn't explain shit. It doesn't add up not because the equation is too difficult, this shit doesn't add up because Phyllis from the office just handed you a work sheet with the word NUMBERS and nothing else, no equations, no shit, and throws a pencil at your face and says "figure it out, stupid" then starts doing interpretive dance
Jacob Wood
Speaking of no payoffs... are there any good series with real payoffs? This should had potential but they screwed it up.
Owen Perry
Faggots complaining about "the ending" need to go back to plebbit.
Nathan Gomez
School must be out for the holiday
Joseph Ward
Oh and just to make sure I was understood since you seem to be an idiot, I'm saying you need to go back to school if you think this was in anyway an even remotely decent series.
Grayson Walker
Imagine Usual Suspects, but instead of Kevin Spacey being a criminal, he's a kidnapping victim, and instead of creating an elaborate story with a payoff trying to get out of a crime, the kidnapping victim is just making up a story for literally no reason at all other than "to heal."
Adam Green
Oh and the madeup story has no payoff. They literally get you up to the nut and blueballs you because they couldn't think of a satisfying ending.
Grayson Allen
Trips of truth
William Long
>they couldn't think of a satisfying ending. > Make her story real There, THAT'S their satisfying ending, but i feel like they were obsessed with their being some twist or some shit
Aaron Howard
I was actually pretty hype at that part, because it got me thinking about old-world mythology, like how various types of fairies and shit could only enter your house if they were invited. Just made it more disappointing that it was never addressed. (The writers obviously didn't forget, since episode 6 or 7 ends with someone noticing the front door is open for no reason and closing it.)
I am and that's not what I was saying (though I mostly agree with you). They set up a bunch of mysteries at the beginning, which I liked at first, but then they give most of them shitty, boring resolutions. But there's also some cryptic stuff near the end that just goes totally unexplained for no good reason.
Isaac Flores
What if she made up the fact that it was made up? [spoilers] she's a god tier russler of jimmies[/spoiler]
