What does TV think of Japanese animation movies? Always thought that anime was shit, that's why I never got the courage to watch films like this, despite being highly acclaimed.
Does anyone know any enjoyable movies like this that aren't weebshit?

I liked how it wasn't really magical fantasy and was kind of a story that could happen, innit? Like I connected more with it. Really the only nicest bit of anime I've ever seen but a graphic artist coworker of mine says Akira is a must watch regardless of animation tastes but then again he told me Taken 2 was good fuckin hell

This. The large majority of Ghibli's films are excellent, and definitely worth watching. My personal favorite is Only Yesterday.
Pom Poko is one of their worst films though.

Actually, anime films in general are more worth watching than anime televsion series I find.
Some outside of Ghibli worth noting: Girl Who Leapt Through Time, 5 Centimeters Per Second, Akira, Ghost in the Shell

Are movies like this really considered anime? I remember some kind of meme with the photo of Miyakazi (or whatever his name is) with a quote that says "anime was a mistake", was that true or purely a meme?

studio ghibli is god tier, after watching pic related I binge watched like 5 miyazaki films and they were all almost or equally as heartwarming as Spirited Away

Nausicaa is one of my least favorites from Ghibli. I can't put my finger on why, but it feels less substantial than it needed to be. I've heard that the manga is better, but I don't care for comics

They basically took the massive story of the manga, then cut 90% of it away and tried to make a new movie out of it. It's really disappointing to watch if you actually know the source material.
