I was watching the trailer for this after having watched the movie and I noticed like... 90% of the dialogue in the trailer wasn't in the movie. Ditto on scenes.
What're the chances of us getting an alternate cut now that Disney is in charge.
Also, how would this scene have played out originally? Was it in the novel?
Deleted / Altered Scenes
Remember the reshoots? This is that.
Apparently the TIE damaged the satellite in this scene
Believe me, the original cut was crap and the reshoots fixed so much
The ' I Rebel ' line was cut too. Stormtroopers wading the the sea, U- wings droping of loads of rebel commandos was cut too. I wonder what else?
The other scene that involved that Lie Detector Octopus.
>Not being able to show an x-wing flying over the sea
I have a friend that was in a focus group for the movie.
He told me what they changed in the re shoots
Saw Gerrera and his group was ISIS tier and the ambush scene felt a lot like the "rebels" attacking a US convoy. Almost everyone in his focus group drew parallels to the Iraq war and seeing US troops die.
The attack on the Scarif base was Saving Private Ryan D-day dark and didn't feel at all like Star Wars.
There was no Vader massacre at the end
There was no data disk, the transmission of the data to the corvette and Darth Vader's star destroyer wrecking the Rebel fleet was the end as the corvette narrowly escapes jumping to light speed.
fuck I was really frustrated that the Saw Guerrera stuff pulled too many punches, that stuff I'd love to see
>There was no data disk
What do you mean by this? You see Jynn running out of the base and across the beach with the hard drive in the first trailer?
Losing the war vibe to the beach scenes feel like the only real loss.
Saw's stuff too I guess. But that sounded a bit heavy handed.
Probably just that the transmission was it with the plans. That the Tantive IV had them, not the flagship, and they simply jumped. No Vader wrecking shit scene.
In the original she takes the data disk up to the tower and transmits the data to the corvette. Then gets blown up by the death star. They both die on top of the tower.
The fleet tries to jump to light speed and Vaders Star Destroyer cock blocks them, destroying the fleet. Vader looking out the window sees the corvette jumping to light speed as they pursue. Cut to credits.
my dad works for nintendo and he says that's all false
Also to add, you can see the corvette in the space battle flying around. There is no reason given why it would suddenly be docked inside the capital ship.
Tarkin orders the death star to fire "at the base" of the archives, which it did in the original but obviously in the re shoot it misses I guess and shoots into the ocean.
Why is she running across the beach with the plans then? Where they originally held in a different building than the tower?
I do like the idea of them dying on the tower though. I thought it was weird that the Death Star laser was fired a few minutes after the plans were uploaded and that they had time to get off the tower and run to the beach, but not enough time to run to a shit
Eh, the Rebels had multiple Corvette's. Not a big deal.
And I don't see any narrative difference in making the shot miss enough for a dramatic farewell scene.
>In the original she takes the data disk up to the tower and transmits the data to the corvette. Then gets blown up by the death star. They both die on top of the tower.
this is wrong, and anyone who watched the first teaser knows it
nice try though
I honestly don't know why as it doesn't fit into the context of either story lines.
In the original and release Cassian is inured while retrieving the data. So he couldn't of been running in that scene anyway.
The release version doesn't even make sense as Cassian and Jyn miraculously makes it past an entire base full of Imperials. (Because in the original the base gets blown up like the city and there was no need for them to die on a beach) which is also horrible edited imo.
how does a tie fighter achieve lift in an atmosphere?
This isn't The Shit Awakens, they are Tie Strikers in Rogue One
Its pretty obvious they cut this scene when they have her get to the top of the tower and randomly add her going to "reallign" the disk which served no purpose in the movie other than extend the screentime.
>asking for logic in a movie series about space wizards
>"The other scene that involved that Lie Detector Octopus"
Laughed out loud in the theater at the ridiculousness of that hentai scene.
>Saw Gerrera and his group was ISIS tier and the ambush scene felt a lot like the "rebels" attacking a US convoy. Almost everyone in his focus group drew parallels to the Iraq war and seeing US troops die.

Me and my buddies actually thought that's what they were going for when we saw it in theaters. Guys in turbans attacking a military convoy on a desert planet.
It doesn't have to, it has repulsorlifts, like every landspeeder and spacecraft in Star Wars. This is like asking how the Star Destroyer hovers over the Jedha temple.
The one you see in the space battle is General Sato's blockade runner, from the cartoon. The one docked inside is Catain Atilles's one. You know, fleets can have multiple ships of the same type.
>like asking how the Star Destroyer hovers over the Jedha temple.
But if it's never been shown before maybe they should remain consistent.
Hmm that ending sounds kinda cool, though I did like the Rebel desperately pushing the disk through a crack in the door second before being killed by Vader.
I felt like Saw's rebels were an analogue for terrorists regardless, they were wearing headscarfs on a desert planet ffs.
The I Rebel line needed cut. That was fucking stupid.
Star Destroyers were shown in atmosphere in the prequels, as were Jedi starfighters.
The only reason people think Tie fighters can't fly in an atmosphere is because since they didn't do it in the OT movies guidebooks made it a "fact".
how does any spaceship in star wars achieve lift?
>they were wearing headscarfs on a desert planet ffs.
Wow, racist much?
do you think we might be able to get a hold of the deleted footage? TFA had some deleted scenes in the blu ray right? I hope there are at least some character moments they left out so we could see them in the blu ray if they released it. It would be interesting to make a fan edit of this.
>Jedha
>Jehad
>Jihad
there'll probably be deleted scenes on the home release. but i wouldn't count on anything extensive. the trailers are probably the best look we'll get
Thank god because the trailer dialouge was cringe worthy
>I rebel!
Thank god that shit was cut
I hope so.
I plan on doing my own little bits of editing once I can
>remove 'I'm wanted on 12 systems' guy
>cut down the quips a bit
>remove the 5 frames of 3po/R2
and having more quality footage to work with would be nice.
I would also remove the scrotum alien from ANH. The first act was dull as it is and there's no point dragging the film for some fan service.
The Peter Cushing voice actor was too inconstant for me, however I did like how they just put the scene from ANH where he says "You may fire when ready." That was nice, also the cgi for most of his scenes was pretty noticeable.
That's who 'wanted on 12 systems' guy is
Praying they give that poor rushed bastard a chance to redo some of the score for the home release.
oh kek. i was wondering who was that guy everybody kept mentioning.
>tfw Ponda and Evazan just barely escaped the Death Star destroying the city on Jedah only to be killed by an out of retirement jedi in a cantina on Tatooine
I wouldn't mind seeing those beach scenes and the preceding scenes of Jyn, Cassian, and K 2SO fleeing the facility. I liked what we got regardless.
hyped for the bluray with the deleted scene extras desu
repulsorlift
Wow
