alright you can have it. Still his formative years were in New York

He actually does only have British citizenship, or at least he did until recently, I don't know his current status.

Scroobius Pip is decent....

can't really think of any other Brits off the top of my head, aside from the previously mentioned Professor Elemental.

Lady Sovereign

roots manuva

no one can top Prof. E. He honetly is the best music to come out of britain since the beatles ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ gg for trying

Kano

Recent kano is a load of shite
don't think OP is lookin for grime stuff, more uk hip hop

Made in the Manor was great, and Kano is barely grime anymore. He is basically UK Hip Hop.

Another recommendation then: Giggs.

Me and you must have completely different tastes, fair enough
I prefer oldschool grime so kano going through this weird change has been a bit whacky ngl
Trim, roachee, god's gift, riko dan, flow dan, wiley and dizzee are prob my favs
along with bare that I forgot to mention cba

no I really like proper old school grime as well, but really I'm generally more of a hip hop guy anyway so I like newer Kano as well.
I mean honestly most mainstream "grime" artists nowadays are way more influenced by American hip hop than they are by jungle, (real) dubstep, garage etc anyway.

Ah ok fairs then man, personally I think it's part of this slow trudge towards homogenisation of the genre - what made grime so unique and fresh was its roots
Trying to follow american hip hop sensibilities is just going to lead to more of this watered down mainstream grime; they need to stick to the origins for inspiration and try and still inject a UK flavour, otherwise they may as well be making UK hip hop/ faux-American hip hop
Not sure whether I explained myself well but I feel by blurring the barriers grime is just going to end up an unfocused muddy mess of competing influences

LITHEN

Dizzee Rascal
Wiley

No I totally understand where you're coming from. It got to the point a few years ago where I stopped considering this new wave even as "grime" music - it's something different entirely.
You have to think of them as two distinct genres, because if you listen to old school Wiley or Dizzee Rascal it's totally different to Stormzy or Skepta nowadays.
While I don't consider a lot of the current UK scene to be grime, i still enjoy a lot of it for what it is.
It's definitely becoming harder to find true grime artists though, you have to dig a little deeper nowadays.
