I still like NOFX and early Green Day to some extent. I like ska-punk and a good bit of third-wave (RBF's first album, Mustard Plug, Mighty Mighty Bosstones). I tend to like specific albums more than the artists themselves. I think that most people around me have poor taste, especially rockists because they flaunt it around like they're intelligent.

My musical preferences keep regressing chronologically. I used to listen to stuff from the mid 50's through to the mid 80's, but in the past few years I've lost interest in all 80's and most 70's music. Now I'm losing my enjoyment of psychedelic music. As it stands my favourite decade for music is 1956-'66.

I can't appreciate 'normal music,' or music that doesn't sound unique to me. This might sound like some avant-teen contrarianism but it's actually rather debilitating for a few reasons. From what I can figure out the way I listen to music is very focused on textures (to the point that I don't even hear lyrics with vocal music,) and anything that I've been exposed to a decent amount over the course of my life doesn't interest me anymore because I've heard that pallette of sounds it uses before (a good example of this being my inability to get into most music from the 80s because 80s production trends are incredibly familiar and cheap-sounding to me from having to hear it when my mom played music through my childhood.) On top of that I'm incredibly picky with what I like even in odd avant garde shit which has essentially doomed me to look for the next artist that does something crazily unique or delve further into electronic genres I've already explored a good bit and eventually get bored of. The worst part is that I have a lot of friends really into music too and despite them all being capable of good discussion I can't really provide any because of how picky I am, even with friends into ambient/noise shit.

i think Frank Zappa and Captain Beefheart are the most incredibly disingenuous , naturally pretentious music makers that i know of. and that includes obviously overly pretentious noise bands and all that such. I view them as the Emperors New Cloths of music, who purposely put on a guise of not caring about making quality to pass it off as a deep art thing.

I think Radiohead is a perfectly serviceable indie/alternative rock band. But i don't believe they've ever done anything of enough note to warrant the constant praise they receive. Nothing off of OK Computer / Kid A was much special/ different than anything put out at the time and every other radiohead release i've listened to i found forgettable.

It's not that I can only get into harsh stuff, I already listen to everything you listed and there's so much music out there that I'm sure I'll keep finding shit forever. It's more that I can't sit down and casually enjoy 'accessible' music at all which makes it impossible for me to really enjoy music casually outside of me putting on my own, and I'm so picky even with what I can get into that it's hard to be able to talk about music with someone. It takes me a lot more effort to get into a fucking Beatles or David Bowie song (if I manage to at all) than it does to something by, say, The Goslings.
