apologize

Will Villeneuve be the Nolan of the 2020's?

how can you go from making porn about how it only smells to direct big hollywood blockbusters?

he's way better than nolan

>prisoners
>enemy
>sicario
>arrival
>blade

name one better movie from nolan

I'm okay with this. I'd rather have this than Blade Runner tbqh

Hes already praised by the same low intelligence plebs so yes

What are the odds Paul Atreides is black and the Harkonnen are white?

I mean in terms of big name directors making mildly innovative blockbusters. It seems Villeneuve is going this route. After Blade Runner 2 he'll probably be one of the biggest directors on the planet.

Nolan can't compete.

Memento

Villeneuve literally never made a bad film, this guy is creating an amazing filmography.

This is history kids, this guy will be remember as one of the best directors of this era.

>50 years from now, kids will look at 2010s the same way we currently look at 1960's

>Prisoners
>Enemy
>Sicario
>Arrival
>Blade Runner 2049

If he nails Blade Runner, which seems highly likely, we are dealing with a bona fide auteur here. One of the future greats blossoming right before our eyes.

I've seen every movie of Villeneuve and they are nothing but Ron Howard tier styless, identity lacking trash.

The worst were of course Prisoners and Spicario which both show the glaring lack of any ideas from the director, carried only and solely by some pretty images Deakins managed to muster up, Incendies is fucking Nolan tier tweest garbage but you probably haven't even seen it.

The same bullet that kills a capeshit fan will also kill the Villeneuve and Paul Thomas Anderson fan. They come from the same root, from the same doritos stained console. They are frauds, and as a warrior of cinema it's my duty to expose the fakes and the inauthentic when I see them. I will fight with crawls and teeth until the last imposter is fallen to the ground

>my hands are a little spicy

>so am I

it's so cute how you think there will still be a civilization left after warmongering usa and russian shits blow us up

You'd have to get off Sup Forums first to do that. I swear you're here literally 24/7.

Hillary didn't win, there won't be any war. Between USA and Russia at least

>takes violence seriously
>shoots poetically, often tying the visuals directly to the tone, emotion and themes of the movie
>always gets fantastic performances out his actors
>works with his composers to create incredibly atmospheric music to accompany his haunting visuals

CAN DENNIS THE MENACE BE STOPPED!?

Am I the only one who didn't really like Sicario? I mean, it was ok, but I don't get what people loved about that movie.

>this guy will be remember as one of the best directors

no

Is there any pride in being the goto for sequels and remakes?

...

Lets not forget, he engages with lofty, heady concepts
(Enemy, Arrival, Blade Runner), as well as grounded, gritty and real ones (Prisoners, Sicario, Incendies)

Reminds me a lot of Kubrick desu.

>dude why didn't you give me a billion dollars for my movie lmao

Exactly i cant name a better movie from Nolans. They are all shit

Villeneuve is a miserable hack whose movies are propped up entirely by Deakins meme cinematography which gets the r/movies and IMDB pleb crowd all hot and bothered. It is the death knell of Cinema.

His flicks are a bad joke; an insult to the filmic medium; a gob of spit aimed at all that is good and great about filmmaking.

I think pic related is his most memorable as it tells an interesting story and is kinda of like a photography or a description of the people living in that area

Who do you consider to be a mainstream mid-budget director working today?

And will you take the same "Deakins meme cinematography" to The Assassintion of Jesse James? Are you willing to look at how wasted Lubezki's cinematography is used on garbage like Birdman and The Revenant? Movies that contain the hyper-detailed look he's known for but without an iota of beauty or visual poetry?

DON'T YOU FUCKING DARE

There are """""people""""" on this board who actually think this is a good movie or adaptation.

What will *not* be rebooted?

No, the Lynch movie isn't very good. But I certainly don't trust any modern director or writing staff to make a new Dune movie.

I'd rather be stuck with Lynch's memetastic mess than see a new version with diversity casting and the plot altered to be about how evil whitey is and how some pseudo-muslims are the true heroes. They'd make Jessica a strong independent womyn don't need no man, and all sorts of other "progressive" bullshit thrown in too.

>he thinks Dennis will not make this one of the most complex political scifi movies out there without succumbing to progressive bullshit.

Have you even seen his last 5 movies? The man is less "Here is the take on this political issue that is popularized by the media, but the issue itself unfiltered presenting a very gray reality."

Go to bed Christopher.

>version with diversity casting and the plot altered to be about how evil whitey is and how some pseudo-muslims are the true heroes
This is 100% what would happen. Today's Hollywood kikes are completely different from the old kikes who used to run the show, the new generation is running amok.

Dune is a fairly right-wing tale. Everything in the story runs contrary to what the leftist kikes want. I guarantee you it'd be totally altered to have implicit marxist bullshit shoehorned in.

The Big Guy Risea

We'll just have to see
At best it'll just vaporize during preproduction

>Who do you consider to be a mainstream mid-budget director working today?
Compared to him? I'd say Nichols, but I haven't seen his last two films yet.

>And will you take the same "Deakins meme cinematography" to The Assassintion of Jesse James?
No only because Killing Them Softly took no prisoners. I was the only person left in the cinema by the end. It was like Dominik himself was prowling the screening. letting the blood of the unworthy without a moment's hesitation. Not even looking them in the eye. Any art made as a direct retaliation to the "entertainment" meme is worth celebrating. This film was a meat grinder. Taking the memes of good taste/quality and turning them on their head. He offered them a Tarantino/scorcese-esqe crime caper to the plebe audience on a silver platter, instead he jams a live grenade down their throats. He offered an "artful" "tasteful" "legitimate" "masterpiece" to the capeshit loving "film buff" crowd, only to slip a dagger between their ribs and then bludgeon them to death with the hammer of post-subtlety. There should be no politeness or regard for feelings in art.

>Are you willing to look at how wasted Lubezki's cinematography is used on garbage like Birdman and The Revenant? Movies that contain the hyper-detailed look he's known for but without an iota of beauty or visual poetry?
I've wondered the same. Why would such a talented DP waste his time with such an awful filmmaker. Watching the Revenant, it's obvious his floating camera & wide shots of nature are the only reasons to watch the film (thank you Terry) while everything else seems incredibly sophomoric and half-baked, you already know it's gonna have a long tracking shot during a battle, which is going to be shot amazingly, but also completely gratuitous and ostentatious. A good filmmaker like Terry knows how to use his talents without gimmicks, and even a decent flickmaker like Cuaron knows how to use long takes for good reasons, without trying to seem like a serious artist. Inarritu belongs in the trash, he's an enemy of cinema

So making a movie that treats the audience like crap and is "subversive" to the point of repulsing its potential audience is commendable? But that's an incredibly easy thing to do. It's incredibly easy to make a movie that grosses-out or offends to the point of people leaving or outright not watching it. Killing Them Softly didn't even have the benefits of an interesting political observation or perspective on top of some truly atrocious scenes.

Now this is just my opinion, but you can still entirely make an easily-digested and "likeable" movie that carries some hefty themes and politics. A movie doesn't have to be hard-to-approach in order to be good, and having a standard that something has to be "obscure" or "a meat grinder" in order to be good is somewhat ridiculous and shuts you out of unironically good movies that just happen to be entertaining or engaging while delivering on what it's sold as.

you must have loved the human centipede

Accurate post.

ideas guy

Dune sucks though.

How many characters will Chinese?

for fuck's sake at least wait until jodoroski is dead

>Reboot
fucking keep it

99% of them

What I want to know is will Atari and TDK still be plastered everywhere

>400 pages of intricate detail and slow moving plot
>final 10 pages
>and then there was this big battle and somehow Paul won and then his sister somehow killed the bad guy who had her in his custody without being harmed herself and also Paul captured the emperor and now he's emperor the end
What the fuck happened? Did the author have a deadline or something?

one off films are not reboots, its a remake

you only reboot series

But the Fremen literally ARE pseudo-muslims. Herbert throws in more gratuitous Arabic than a Naruto fanfic author throws in gratuitous Japanese. Paul is their Muhammad who leads them on a literal jihad, which is even called a jihad in the books, to conquer the galaxy. They're not "heroes" because Dune doesn't have Star Wars-style good vs. evil morality, but they are the central protagonists.

Duke Leto will be black, his concubine will be a blonde haired blue eyed 20 year old. Paul will be black of course. The Fremen will look Mexican or Arab, except for Chani who will be white. The Harkonen will all look like Donald Trump. The Emperor's daughter that marries Paul will look like pic related.

No, he's actually talented.

I'm aware that fremen are supposed to be space arabs. The point I was making was that a modern director/writer would take the fremen and spin their narrative into a bullshit allegory about evil white colonialists and that islam is a religion of peace and that arabs dindu nuffin wrong and all this shit, rather than just portray them as the neutral entity they are in the book.

Not a remake either

Just another adaptation based on the same source material

true, i tried explaining this once but nobody was able to follow so i called it a remake. you get it

kudos

I think Dune can only work in book format. It would have to be adapt into several films just to try to make it work.

...

Agreed. It's fucking awful. But Jodo's version would have been just as awful adaptation wise. But probably more fun at least.

No.

I'd agree he hasn't made a "bad" film but he's not amazing. People like you are what gives Denis such a bad rap on Sup Forums If you're entry level then he gets super overrated.

But he's enjoyable and fun. Glad to see him handle genre movies .

>Villeneuve
Wasted on remakes. The man has talent. Let him direct more original stories.

WARNING TO ANYONE ITT:

This guy is a regular shit poster, pretty sure I argued with this faggot years ago and even then I was told he was a notorious shit poster.

Literally believes that art is mutually exclusive to enjoyment and will claim anything that doesn't fit that is Sup Forumseddit etc etc. He cannot be argued against and is more than likely somewhat autistic.

+ his spiel about Denis is copypasta, whether his or someone elses. He's good, not great. But not bad.

Don't waste your time.

NOT A BAD SLOT

BETTER THAN THE JOSS WHEDON OF THE 2020S, BLADE RUNNER AND DUNE VS AVENGERS 5 AND 6

Huh, this is going to work, he's really good at making stuff feel cerebral and mystic, Dune must be his dream project.

Yeeeeeeeeeeees!

>I rape dune

kek

yes yes yes all my money

yeah I thought the ending was easily the worst part

With love

watch what you say here or one of these asshats will disagree just to be contrarian

> often tying the visuals directly to the tone, emotion and themes of the movie
>works with his composers to create incredibly atmospheric music to accompany his haunting visuals

So, just like a barely competent director?

> iota of beauty and visual poetry

Into the trash with you

I don't think there's a sci-fi franchise more raped and desecrated than Dune. Whats one more go at it's rotting corpse gonna do

DUNE SAND LMAO

Thread theme
youtube.com/watch?v=NLVX-qlqd7k

There's a fuckton of incompetent directors

Villeneuve is the shit.

Probably just wanted to move the story on -- it expands a ton in the later novels.

Is there anything this man can't do? Besides make a bad movie.

I trust him.

*moves the camera slowly*
Guise am I kino yet?
*camera skreeches to a halt*
Guise is this kino now? Look at them landscapes
*40 minutes of dunes and sand with orchestral score*
Damn I'm good

Prestige
Inception
Memento.

The Dark Knight

Memento

Inception

The Prestige

Dunkirk

>this faggot

No wonder the teaser was shit.

They're both shit, pleb.

you missed his best film you pleb

but the fremen are literal arabs in the books
MUH JIHAD MUH WATER

Goddamn, how does he work so fast?

Dune would work as an HBO series prove me wrong.

to all the nice fellows shitposting about how they''l make the heroes musims: read the book, even the fucking synopsis on wikipedia
the main faction of heroes ALREADY are muslims

christ you are so dense sometimes
don't forget to take a breath once in a while during your shitposting spree

Left: Dune fan's hopes and dreams
Right: Villeneuve

He knows the heptapod language so he's already seen the movies he'll make.

Blade wasn't directed by him ya dingus

I'm the inventor of the "HBO acquired DUNE" copy-pasta and have seen it re-posted it several times over the last few years (pic related)

I'm actually really sad now that I can't do this anymore

>HBO dune series
>half the characters are now sleeping with and cheating on each other
>gratuitous sex scenes and brothel scenes that serve absolutely no purpose to the story
>Lady Jessica is now a strong independent feminist
>Paul is half black
