Thoughts? To be quite honest it would be interesting to see a movie based on the event.

why the fuck does this shit seems to be liked by weaboos? its extrememly overrated and boring.
what is this shit about? I never watched it
It's a document about the director's sadistic nature.
Projection
>The Act of Killing (Indonesian: Jagal, meaning "Butcher") is a 2012 documentary film about the individuals who participated in the Indonesian killings of 1965–66. The film is directed by Joshua Oppenheimer and co-directed by Christine Cynn and an anonymous Indonesian.
Not a big fan of these kind of docu tbqh. Is this one of those interview survivors and witness type? Or they also show some older footage or photos of the killings?
In a period of time there were mass killing in Indonessia. They basically did a communist purge and killed about half a million people. The docu is like an interview with the people who were responsible for murdering many people.
What you see is typical Indonesian behavior (remember some of them might have survived Jap camps back in the days) they act and talk about it with pride and laugh it off as if it wasn't that bad and as if it didn't affect at all. At the end you gradually see the mask slip and see them express regret.
It was hard watching this, my family come from Indonesia though left right after independence from NL. But the behavior is the same and so is the ignorance. Indonesian people want to keep everything secret behind doors so violence, rape etc. is all justified as family troubles that you should never speak about to outsiders, when mentioned they laugh it off like they did nothing wrong cause it is just family business.
thanks, I'll watch it
>Indonesian people want to keep everything secret behind doors so violence, rape etc. is all justified as family troubles that you should never speak about to outsiders, when mentioned they laugh it off like they did nothing wrong cause it is just family business.
what?
where do you get that impression of indonesian people?
It's just interviews with the the killers. He just films them during their daily routines, meets more of the killers and interviews them throughout. Bunch of jolly looking asian grandpas talking about how they got ideas of how to strangle people efficiently from Scarface and such movies.
You should watch it though it's great.
>Indonesian people want to keep everything secret behind doors so violence, rape etc. is all justified as family troubles that you should never speak about to outsiders
Well, to be fair most countries that commit genocide, mass rape, and other atrocities; aren't likely to admit, let alone be shamed for doing so.
>Le typical 'we did it for the greater good', 'it was a different time', 'it never happen lol', reasoning
Another Indo here, can confirm.
literally communist propaganda
what a fucking bullshit
It's an exaggeration
i born, raised, and still live in a very small village far from a small town with really thick traditional value
none of us think like that
This documentary was done by a Jew, when his gonna done one about Palestine?
Conservative value is still very strong there from my experience. From a couple of Indonesian friends i have, apparently they'd rather cover up most mistakes they did and solve their problem through 'friendly solution' (read: bribe, secret dealings, etc). .
maybe you live in a nice village but in general the mass-murder of communists and indo-chinese is not recognized in indonesie
I think in this case it's more that the victors get to write the history. The victims of this mass-murder are either dead or still silenced under the current government.
>mass-murder of communists and indo-chinese is not recognized in indonesie
The mass-murder stuff is mostly unknown to the common peoples due to it being censored or never being taught, or a public secret among the more progressive circles. Can confirm as an Indonesian.
As for indo-chinese, they are recognized though racial tension and shits like that still happen from time to time.
well bribery is indeed very common but saying a crime like rape and violence is justified as family troubles that you should never speak about to outsiders is bullshit
nobody thinks that backward
So... does your very small village acknowledge or deny the mass killings?
Ridiculously awesome.
There couldn't be a more perfect ending.
>crime like rape and violence is justified as family troubles that you should never speak about to outsiders is bullshit
Is that their reasoning? Wasn't it about protecting their country from commie values?
we know what happen during pki era
according to my mother's story everybody was shitting their pants during the night
no house lit fire when the siren screamed as a sign that the army was looking for pki in the village
do you unironically think that what anwar congo thinks represents all of us?
the majority of us were too scared of the commies because they killed anybody including their family if they didn't have the same value as them
the commie and chink killings were done by preman or thugs like anwar congo
Did you seriously forget to change the way you spoke and pretend to be an Indonesian and an American in the same post.
what?
how am i american?
Great documentary but I enjoyed the The Look of Silence much more.
they were killing communists, its a wonderful thing and its no wonder they dont feel any remorse.
This.
Its not like they were killing people.
