I like them but the more I listen to the Rohrschach split
the more I realize Neanderthal sounded pretty weak compared to other similar bands at the time
even their other bands like Infest or MITB sounded intenser. might be the raw sound of the recordings?

I see what you mean and definitely agree. Lots of really fucking great garage punk and new wave bands out there as well as old school-sounding hardcore with none of the machismo of metallic hardcore bands.
